Hello again!


Doug smiled broadly at the man across from him in the arena, waving his hand cheerfully.

"Well, this is a treat!" He said, rolling a net ball in his hand. "How have ya been, Alex?"

He wondered how well the man was doing on his betting- he couldn't quite recall who he had chosen as his pony, but he assumed they were skilled trainers. Perhaps he had even fought 'em already!

The match wasn't set to start yet, so the youth simply jogged up to the man before throwing his arms around him and lifting him into a hug, jostling him up with a broad grin.

Doug had heard him and were tight, so that made him a sort of uncle, right?

“Asides from almost dying? I’ve been doing just fine, actually,” he replied.

Up here, where only cameras broadcasted their match to the people watching below, he felt better than being stuck on land.

“Screw what the doctors have been telling me, I’m here to have a good time!”

Since this was an aerial battle, he was on one of his fliers—normally he’d take one of his usual team, however Idun, his Pidgeot, had been giving him the non-stop ‘stink eye’ and it took him a while to figure out (from Bragi, no less) that the avian was jealous of all the attention the main ‘team’ was getting.

So here he was today.

“So… up here, in the clouds?” he continued, a grin on his face. Shit, how he missed flying so high up and on the back of a Pokémon!

Hello again!


For his part, Doug was sat atop his Flygon, a trusty companion for air battles. He had more experience with Alex than any other pokemon on his team, so it felt safe bringing him out- specially since he had grown so much stronger after the battle with Rayquaza.

"I'm glad you are okay, man! Don't push yourself too hard though, eh?" Doug had learned that flying at high speed was incredibly taxing on the body by now; the amount of Gs it could subject your body too could be dangerous.

Not enough he would try to stop Alex from doing what he loved, though!

"Sure thing, let's keep things up'ere!" Doug said with a broad grin."Anythin' in particular ya wanna try?"

“I heard there was some kind of aerial obstacle course? A friend of mine told me about it but… left out some details. I saw what happened on the screens. What the hell was up with all those pillows?!”

Of course, unlike the previous mismatched assortment of obstacles a new set were brought out—to ensure nobody could game the system and keep sweeping through.

“You actually went and beat a Legendary? Dang,” he said in admiration.

Oh, how envious he was to be younger and achieve something like that at John’s age…

Doug laughed softly at that, waving his hand dismissively while blushing a little.

"Darn right I did!" He said with a wink, before rolling his eyes and shaking his head. "But not really, nah. Somehow I can feel that Eggy and I wouldn't have stood a chance in a straight fight."

He winked, grinning broadly. "Luckily, it was a race, and ' fans kept him busy for us, hehe!"

He shook his head after that, trying to focus back on their battle.

"But yeah! So ya wanna do the challenge course Race? I'm game! Guirus 'ere has gotten real awesome at flying! Been wanting to show ya for a while now how much he's grown!"

At that point, the Pidgeot let out a squawk before flying forward.

“Yeah, I can’t stop her. Idun here’s been meaning to prove herself—” he trailed off before turning to look at the first round of obstacles they had to go through.

“…where the hell do they hang these swinging bags?!” he wondered. Were there prop planes hidden in the sky or something?!

“Time to get to the starting line, don’t you think?” he continued as he flew to where an official riding a Fearow was holding the starting pistol, ready to fire.

Doug had stopped asking questions after the first race. Where they got an entire rampart of cannons, he had no idea, and frankly wasn't even sure he wanted to know.

Winking at Alexei, he moved Guirus up to the starting line, nodding at the referee before grinning at Alexei.

"See you at the finish line?"

“Yeah, see you—when I get there first!” he cackled as the starting pistol went off—

And all the swinging obstacles ahead of them began to cavort and swing wildly and attempted to knock whoever would fly into them thrown off their mount or out of the race early.

“Geez!” he yelped as he flattened himself on the Pidgeot’s back who began to ‘cackle’ (as Pidgeots would) before weaving through the first ‘layer’ of obstacles.

Hello again!


Lars had plenty of reasons to be confident, being THE premier flying expert in Hoenn and all- typing and act both.

But Doug was feeling a bit confident himself- not in the least because it was Guirus he was riding, and because this was his second time now doing the obstacle course, even if the obstacles were different.

Also the fact Alex, an injured man, was about to subject himself to some heavy Gs. That certainly also helped.

He would show Alex everything he had learned so far!

As the bang went off, the two shot off for the obstacles, Doug hugging his Flygon firmly as it weaves through the obstacles with impressive bravado, skirting the edge on more than a few ocassions just to shave off those few microseconds from their time.

"Doing okay?!" Doug shouted over the sound of the wind blowing in his ears.

One of the bigger ‘punching bags’ came swinging from behind and the Pidgeot gave a scream of warning that made Alexei look over his shoulder and almost shriek—

“Holy shit!” he yelped as the Pidgeot then barrel-rolled out of the way and very nearly smacked into another one that came swinging out of nowhere.

“Geez, this is nuts!” he replied in John’s direction, before flattening himself on the Pidgeot’s back and shooting forward with a burst of Agility and onto the second obstacle—

This time it was a series of various garters and stretchable ropes strung across large ‘nets’. And there were several of them.

Time to fight through without losing momentum, apparently.

“What the hell?” he grumbled as he looked up. “Yikes!”

Guirus ducked and weaved under garters and ropes, following closely behind the Alexei's Pidgeot.

Doug let out a bark of laughter at the man's exclamations, snickering.

"They are trying real hard to bloody KILL us, eh?" He said wryly as he pressed closer to his Flygon's back. He really hoped there were a lot of Airbags awaiting for them down below if they fell.

Alexei took the harder route, shoving his way through the ropes and garters. This, of course, earned him the ire of the Pidgeot, who squawked with displeasure at how slow he was going.

Eventually he managed to break through the second obstacle—

Only to see that there was a—

“Honestly I don’t know how the hell they do this!” he said as he saw that reminiscent of a certain game, there were hoops that were set on fire.

To add difficulty to this, the hoops were moving as well.

“What the hell! This isn’t Circus Charlie—it’s worse!”

Hello again!


Well, this was certainly a lucky break for Doug and Guirus.

Dragon-types didn't have much to worry about fire.

The humans riding on them, HOWEVER-

"WHO THE HELL IS CHARLIIIEEE!?" Screamed Doug as he shut his eyes tight and hugged his dragon close, feeling the sizzling heat of fiery blazes nip at him as Guirus flew from one hoop to the other, only slightly aware its trainer was 'uncomfortable' with fire and hot.

"WHAT EVEN HAPPENS TO US IF WE FALL FROM HERE?!"

Alexei heard the screaming coming from John, and who wouldn’t be worried?!

Even Idun had to back down a little bit because the fucking obstacles were on fire if anyone cared to take note of this.

“Some clown who jumped through flaming rings for a living!” he shouted back as he flattened himself as best as he could and urged the Pidgeot to clear the swinging, flaming rings that were cavorting wildly—

He very nearly got some of his hair singed off in the process.

“I don’t know!” he remembered to answer the youth’s second question.

Just how many did they have to clear without their clothes getting set on fire?!

There was an entire trail of them apparently…

And the final ring was so small only a medium-sized Pokémon could possibly fit…if the human rider flattened themselves in order to avoid setting themselves on fire!

"Clowns?!" Doug barked out with naked displeasure, the innate hatred for all things 'funny' and Ronald McDonald'ey deeply embedded into his soul, much as it was in most sane souls save the select few psychopaths.

It seemed as though even Alex wasn't aware of what was supposed to save their necks should all else fail; not a promising prospect, given he was the flying expert and as such, presumably, the flying safety expert as well.

Neck to neck, the duo made for the last hoop in the race... And what a thing it was. Doug...

Doug was personally offended by the last hoop.

That thing was sizeist. What if you were riding a bloody gargantuan flier like a Gyarados? What if you were a massive hulk of a man, like ?! What then, 'tough luck'?!

Guirus had no such needless thoughts as he narrowed his silhouette as much as possible for further speed... and then said fug it, and decided its own trainer needed to go.

With a sudden spin, Doug was ejected off his seat, sent flying high and arching over the blazing ring while screaming his head out-

"WHYYYYY-?!"

Before getting caught by the neck of his shirt by his Flygon's maw, the pokemon flying through the finish line a second later.

Doug might have passed out for a moment or so there.
