with prince being busy, despite it just being the later parts of the morning, it was no surprise that they were already tired. once they had finally found a place to sit, they got to work on offering water to their probably equally as tired pokemon; and digging through their bag for some semblance of what could be an early lunch.

it seemed quartz didn't want any of that, though. once the sylveon had gotten his fill of water, he had moved to prince's lap to curl up and glare at any poor soul that passed. it was a particularly venomous glare that had prince looking up from struggling through their bag to give a similar one. like pokemon like trainer, they supposed.

Gwyar had no idea of why, but for whatever reason, a Sylveon was glaring holes at him and Raki.

Naturally, after a moment of this treatment, Raki's temper flared up, the little puppy beginning to bark angrily at the other for the unwarranted animosity.

Eventually, the Sylveon's trainer noticed, and responded appropriately by...

Glaring equally as hard as his pokemon.

Gwyar sighed.

"Good afternoon." The man offered politely as he casually placed his hand atop the barking Riolu's mouth, effectively silencing him.

"It seems I've upset your Sylveon somehow... My apologies." The massive man said as he folded an arm over his chest and bowed politely. Knight's manners.

the riolu’s barking only served to annoy prince more, and he tightened his grip on the bag in his hand just slightly. quartz’s open hostility, however, had less discreetly shifted to the puppy pokemon, although it only resulted in a stretch of one paw. while still glaring, of course, even when prince rested a hand on him in an attempt to calm him.

prince himself was about to ask the man if he could shut his pokemon up, but it seemed he was already on it. and bowing to prince, something that made any snappy reply die in his throat as his face flushed in embarrassment. ”don’t do that.” he managed a bit sharply, half tempted to shrink back and hide away from any witnesses to that.

struggling to regain any dignity, despite the burning of his cheeks, prince sighed. ”quartz is just like that.” he offered to Gwyar Wledig, the closest thing to an explanation the older man would get. any admission that he also was would remain unspoken, however.

The blonde man seemed impervious to everyone else's notice, clearly thinking nothing of his bow as he nodded at prince.

"I see." He said simply, cupping his chin for a moment before glancing over at Raki. His Riolu was clearly sizzling inside, though whether it was from the extremely brief exchange with the Sylveon or simply from the humiliation of being shut was in the air.

"Well, that aside- would a battle be fine by you?" He said simply, petting Raki in the head. "Win or lose, this little one will be better off after fighting."

He clearly needed to let off some steam.

prince almost wanted to laugh at the riolu- it was obvious it was mad, and the sylveon stretched across his lap didn't seem to pay that much mind, finally focusing on curling up to rest. which, between the uncomfortable warmth of the beach and the fact that prince didn't plan on staying still for long, was a plan destined to fail.

especially when Gwyar Wledig offered a battle.

prince was already moving to nudge the sylveon off of their lap and stretch out themselves with a halfhearted shrug. "why not? i'm sure quartz could use the battle, too." a pointed look at the pokemon in question, who had given up any attempts of rest upon being pushed off of prince's lap.

The blonde man smiled.

"Thank you." He said simply as he turned on his heel and walked a few steps away, until the distance between them was appropriate for battle.

Then, he flicked open the H✩T app, and pressed a button. On cue, the League approved Silph Battlefield System came to life. They had, as luck would have it, been standing near one this entire time.

A pokeball symbol appeared over the floor, before the circle spread wide to encompass the length of a standard battlefield. A translucent barrier erected to keep the battle's effects to themselves, and the fight could truly get underway.

"Raki." Gwyar intoned, to which the Riolu leapt off his shoulder and onto the field, squaring up. "Do your best."

He didn't expect a victory- so long as he cooled off and learned something however, it would be worth it.

He turned his gaze to prince garrido.

"You may have the first move."

as the man walked awy, prince closed his bag and moved to hang it over his shoulder again, reaching to carry the very reluctant sylveon to the field. he hadn't quite seen anything like the field itself, especially not how it had just appeared out of nowhere, but he couldn't exactly get distracted by that. yet, anyways.

the riolu was already leaping off the man's shoulder and onto the field, and prince's sylveon did as well- although maybe it had to be coaxed out of his arms with another lighthearted nudge. with their pokemon on the field, prince paused for a moment to give the man a halfhearted smile, going against the fact that he really didn't want to. "good luck."

Gwyar Wledig was letting prince have the first turn, and of course he planned to use it. "quartz, use swift." the sylveon's ears twitch back towards him, and then it's releasing star-shaped rays at the opposing riolu.

The puppy watched its opponent with a keen eye, seemingly mocking it as it more mimicked it motion for motion, Even its ears twitching at Prince before he suddenly swung his arms at his opponent, launching back star-shaped rays that crashed against the Sylveon's own, canceling each other out.

the riolu copying prince's sylveon was unnerving at the very least, but they shoved that aside for now- at least until swift cancelled each other out. "quartz. use quick attack." as soon as they said it, the sylveon was lunging at the riolu, and prince just hoped this one would hit.

The Riolu simply grinned as he heard the order- he didn't even need to copycat this one.

He pushed off the stone floors of the plaza to meet the Sylveon's charge with his own, using his right shoulder to take the brunt of the other's attack with a pained grunt. He then went to push back, swinging his leg in an arc to try and kick its opponent away!

Raki used Quick Attack! Raki took damage!

well- the attack had hit, but not in the way prince had wanted. quartz winced, just enough for prince to know the sylveon had taken damage from the move. "use draining kiss." immediately, the sylveon was moving to use the move in an attempt to regain some of the health it had lost. even as they waited for the results, prince gave Gwyar Wledig a questioning look, wondering if he was just okay with letting his pokemon do whatever during this battle.

"Don't mind us. I prefer it this way." The man simply said with a smile.

Gwyar's method of training and battling differed from the norm, and was a remnant from his former career in the Galarian Pro Circuit.

He trained his pokemon for self-defense, much as one trained a human in martial arts. He didn't believe in micromanaging their every action; there was a disconnect between pokemon and trainer that couldn't be completely done away with even with experience, after all.

Raki was a new and inexperienced member of his team, however; a work in progress. Letting him battle on his own to test out his lessons was an important part of his training, whether he won or lost.

The Puppy reeled back as the Sylveon suddenly kissed him, the smoochs suckling a tremendous amount of energy out him before he managed to scramble back, blushing hard.

He almost Copycatted that... Almost.

Instead, he leapt forth with arm craned back, trying to swing a karate chop at the Sylveon's noggin'!

that sure was an answer, even if it left prince with more questions. he couldn't imagine just letting his pokemon do whatever they wanted, but...at the same time, the riolu seemed to be holding his own just as well as the sylveon. and, maybe for a moment, he debated seeing how it worked out.

the sylveon tried to stumble back at the riolu's attack, but was just barely too slow; the riolu's karate chop landed straight on its head, and it backed up a little, giving its head a quick shake before the answering call from prince- "sand attack.

maybe they should have taken the offensive route again, but if the attack worked well enough on Gwyar Wledig's pokemon, there would be enough opportunity again.

The karate chop landed, but in the end, his opponent was resistant to such a move, unfortunately for Raki. It shook it off easily enough, and then shoved a bunch of sand in Raki's face.

The little puppy howled as it got in his eyes, hands flying to his face as he stumbled back and fell on his butt, trying to swing blindly!
