The Chandelure was too close for the Night Slash, however he soldiered on, bearing the pain and throwing out a close-range Shadow Ball.

It was too late when he realized what hit the Chandelure—

For all intentions and purposes, Alexei considered this one a Fire-type Pokémon. Why? He had his reasons!

Either way—the Chandelure gave an unearthly-sounding shriek (one he blotted out the best he could) before coming to a crash-landing on the ground.
