It was a learning experience altogether.

Screw the fact that he was pretty sure he was dead last in the rankings—well, not really, he had one win. It was one singular win, though.

Either way, he continued to hobble his way around the event venue, trying to avoid bumping into people who were running around and rushing from one battle to another.

Of course, he wasn’t exactly expecting to face his worst fears in the next match…

Giona smiled. He seemed to adjust to the heat a little, having spent plenty of time sweating and dying out there. Today, he seemed a little more composed than usual.

"Oh, Hello."

A young man seemed to hobble around the event venue. He went out of his way to avoid others, which somehow landed him on the opposite side of a sand dune to Giona. He flashed a pokeball, and raised a brow. "Are you down for a battle? I've hit kind of a losing streak recently, it won't be too hard on your pokemon."

The ball sends out a red beam, followed by a shy little thing, under a Pikachu costume.

"--My bad. I'm the new Gym Leader from Rustboro. I'm heading home after this."

Wait, was that a Pikachu? But more importantly—

“Oh, hey, you’re taking the position in Rustboro? Nice to meet you,” he waved from the other side of the sandy arena.

A few moments later, a flash of red light revealed, of all things—a Toucannon, that squawked in the direction of the Mimikyu.

“Sam, get over here. Don’t make me crouch down to pick you up,” he said before giving a sheepish look at the other across the arena.

“Go ahead, first move’s yours.”
