Gwyar vs Cardamom

Hello there. Are you enjoying the festivities?

Gwyar and Raki sat side by side with a glass of lemonade in both's hands, looking blankly ahead. Middle of the way for the tournament as a whole, and the arenas were beginning to get truly packed and rowdy.

It reminded the man too much of the Galarian Pro Circuit, but Raki seemed to be enjoying himself for the most part, whenever he wasn't losing, so Gwyar wasn't ready to leave just yet. A few more battles and lessons and they would be able to return home, with any luck...

"How about them?" Gwyar said after a moment, pointing at a trainer and pokemon duo walking past, to which Raki stubbornly shook his head and puffed his cheeks.

No, he wanted something else!

Gwyar sighed, scratching at the back of his head. After a few consecutive loses, Raki's mood had soured, and neither Gwyar nor his pokemon were able to get him out of it. He needed more friends his age...

Cardamom was letting Bam ride on her shoulder for now, the Riolu a bit tired after all the running around in battles she'd been doing. She'd been healed up since that last fight, and even gotten a berry tart to chew on, but it seemed like she still wanted to take a bit of a break from walking. However, as they passed by the other trainer-and-mon duo, her ears suddenly stuck straight up. Hopping off Cardamom's shoulder, she let out a friendly yip as she waved at the other Riolu. Blinking, Cardamom turned around to see what she was looking at.[break][break]
"Oh, hey there!" she exclaimed, approaching the man with a curious look on her face. "You have a Riolu too? What's their name?"

Hello there. Are you enjoying the festivities?

The moody puppy had his head in his paws and a pout on his lips when yip suddenly reached him. Blinking at the familiar sound, the Riolu glanced up to find himself staring at a fellow Riolu.

At her wave, he couldn't help but smile and wave back, hopping off the bench to approach her eagerly.

Gwyar looked over the exchange with an air of relief; he didn't know to whom this Riolu belonged to, but it seemed to be exactly what Raki needed.

As the trainer approached, the large man was quick to stand, folding an arm over his chest before bowing politely.

"Afternoon, Young lady. His name is Raki." He said, before gesturing towards the duo of puppies. "I take it this is your Riolu, then? I must thank her; Raki's been... moody all day. Until now, that is."

He paused, blinking.

"Ah, but where are my manners? My name is Gwyar Wledig. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Cardamom smiled brightly at the two Riolu greeting each other, staring at them for a while before the trainer spoke up. Lifting her head, she quickly smiled and waved at him as well. "Ah yeah!" she said. "This is Bam, she's been doing quite a bit of fighting in this tournament." She lowered a hand to rub the Riolu's head fur fondly. "Oh, and I'm Cardamom! It's nice to meet you too! And I'm glad we could help cheer Raki up." Indeed, Bam seemed to be sharing one of her battle stories with Raki, explaining how she'd fought various foes up to several times her size. Perhaps with a bit of exaggeration, but then again all the best stories had a bit of that.

Hello there. Are you enjoying the festivities?

Gwyar glanced at Cardamom's Riolu curiously, tilting his head.

"Has she? She has much in common with Raki." He said, "I've been using the tournament to further his training, you see. He's been in many a match- though he has not been winning too consistently. It's been getting to him."

He had grown a lot since his first match, but luck rarely seemed to be on his side in the tournament.

Raki seemed entranced by Bam's story, cooing and wowing at every large gesture and memorable moment. He seemed to slump as the story came to an end however, sighing. He had no stories like that. Every time he fought someone bigger than him, he got his butt handed to him on a platter with entire stadium fulls of people watching...

"Aw, really?" said Cardamom. "Well, it's not like we've been winning every fight either-especially since a bunch of our opponents have had way more experience." One of them had even been a legendary, after all.[break][break]
Bam rubbed her chin thoughtfully, before reaching forward and placing a paw on Raki's shoulder. "Lu?" she suggested softly. Maybe...the two of them could spar? That would be a much more even fight, wouldn't it?

"Indeed, we've scarcely met opponents that weren't several times his size. He's rather proud however, so even if his opponent is obviously stronger, he takes it rather hard." He said with a sigh, watching the little Riolu interact with his kin. "Thankfully, it seems Bam is helping out with that."

A somewhat strange sight to the man; the little puppy was usually quite guarded and reluctant to let weakness show; yet he was being quite open in body language about his insecurities.

Raki looked uncertain as Bam offered a spar; if she had beat up those big guys, then she could probably smack him silly too. Still... he did find sparring fun, and he wanted to play with another Riolu.

After a moment, he smiled and nodded.

Bam grinned and started scampering towards the nearest arena, waving for Raki to catch up. Cardamom blinked. "Mmm...huh?" she said, running after. "Did...did you ask him to spar with you?"[break][break]
"Lu!" yipped Bam in agreement, pointing excitedly at one side of the arena and directing Cardamom to stand on the trainer's side while she rushed into place within the arena circle, bouncing up and down.

Hello there. Are you enjoying the festivities?

"Oh? How strange." Gwyar said as Raki followed after Bam eagerly. "He had been unwilling to fight other, ah... 'baby' pokemon until just a few moments ago."

The prideful little Riolu had been adamant about finding a big, strong opponent to beat and redeem himself in the eyes of the tournament going public.

Clearly, that fell off his priority list now.

Following behind his pokemon, the man took his place behind Raki as he stretched his limbs on the floor, a smile on his face as leapt to his feet and nodded at Bam.

"Rio!"

"Well, I think it'll be good for both of them, at least," noted Cardamom as she watched the scene. Bam grinned at her new friend, continuing to hop back and forth for a bit before she diverted to one side, holding her arms behind her as she sped up, running as fast as she could with a Quick Attack, aiming to get in the first hit, if not the hardest.

"Indeed. Sparring with friends is much different from battle..." Win or lose, you were bound to have fun.

Raki had been observing his new friend keenly as the battle started, seemingly mirroring her in a playful manner- even when she attacked! He rushed forth to meet her charge, their bodies smacking together at the center of the arena, forearm against forearm!

[attr="class","woo3"]Bam let out a cheerful "Ri!" as she realized what Raki was doing, complimenting him on his choice of technique. This close up, instead of a speed attack that would require more space, she instead focused and drove a paw forwards in a Force Palm, laughing a barking laugh as she did so. She was definitely enjoying this!

Raki's smile grew at that, a happy yip leaving his paw. This was nice... he liked it!

As the force palm was used, the Riolu's own paw came to try and shove aside the strike, a pulse of aura bursting besides him and spreading against his side, knocking some breath out of him, before he took a step forward before spinning on his heel and brought the side of his hip to bump against Bam, trying to push her back with his shoulders and back!

[attr="class","woo3"]Bam was bumped to one side and stumbled a bit, but turned the stumble into a somersault, landing lightly on her paws. Another clever tactic that she knew quite well! Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, she couldn't respond with the same, considering how Counter didn't work against itself. So instead, she used the distance she'd gotten to charge back in for another speedy Quick Attack.
