it seemed almost cruel to send a rookie Ranger to a wildfire; but he's here. he's trying. he's attempting. the Dewgong he recently received is sent out. despite being a seafaring Pokemon, the seal is ready. much more ready than he felt like at this moment. "this way!" he calls out to the people and Pokemon, herding them to the entrance "keep moving! don't panic!" his talks with Freya, Luka... they seem so far away now.

now was the time to act.

"Dewgong" he says to the water-type. they nod in understanding before unleashing water at the nearest fire. it is out in mere seconds. it is enough time for Chase to notice the man standing still on the outskirts "are you okay?!" he calls to him, jogging a short distance to stand in front of him. the man doesn't look hurt, just... a bit shocked?

Chase does not flinch under the tone nor the look. he stands almost defiantly for a few seconds before a fire licked branch falls. then he jumps into action again. "then if you're here to help" the young man states, turning on the spot "keep safe!" sure he could stand around and bitch at the other, call him out on his attitude or even go 'Ranger business keep out'... but that didn't solve anything.

the Pyroar would begin to search for survivors. Chase calls for the Dewgong on the ground to put out more fire. the small ones he kicks dirt over to prevent spreading. there isn't a whole lotta shit he could do as a human. he didn't magically sprout water from his mouth. if the man wanted to help, all the power to him. but he wasn't going to watch his back 24/7.

 the entrance was clear. he heard other Rangers arrive at last, going into the thick of things. more wild Pokemon ran by, happy enough to escape the fire. he would keep this spot secure while providing aid to the humans within. Dewgong sprayed more water onto the various remaining flames.

Chase would check the man only after he was done. seems the older human was used to this sort of thing; but he wasn't. a fire was not a good starting point for his 'career'. he was thrown into the deep end first, floaties be damned. there would be plenty of time to tell the man 'thank you' after.

"keep moving!" the new cadet says as a a woman rushed blindly forward. he places a hand on her shoulder to steady her before directing her to the exit.

with the woman and a few others out of danger, Chase would assess the scene. smoking stacks of now drenched earth. ash and soot in the air. but nothing the woods wouldn't recover from. he sighs when he realizes the others had it handled. one Senior Ranger would clap him on the back and tell him to 'go home'. he would be paid, of course, for the timely job. but that didn't matter to him much.

"oh" the young man notices the older one and approaches "you're still here" he already told the other Rangers to wire some money to the stranger "if you can approach one of the Rangers, sir, they'll want to hear your testimony of the fire. I already gave my report." the man had been here for as long as Chase had been. they wanted to cover their bases.

if anything, the older man was agreeable. though Chase could say it was more logical than agreeing with him. leaving the scene of a crime (because the Rangers had found it to be suspiciously set) would only further suspicion of an individual. the Cadet nods to him. "be safe, sir" was all he said as he walks away.

curt was another word to describe the man; though Chase didn't fault him for it. he would move off, recalling his Dewgong and beginning to head back to his apartment. saying farewell to his co-workers, the silver haired man left. what more was there to really say about the matter? only that an investigation would be made into the fire...
