“Maybe indeed. Or they put me here to test you and see if you could actually play the part or just give the whole game away. That is something I have done to other members as well,” she replied jovially and with a shrug. If that had been meant to incite her, it had failed almost spectacularly. But that was to be expected. She probably had much more experience in these sorts of things than others. Which was probably why she was being delegated to tasks like these, blind missions where she could stake out other members. It was important for many of them to go unknown, after all. That was why she still had her identity uncompromised, just in case. Plus, while there probably was some kind of power trip fun to be found in playing the thug, that definitely was not her role. Far from it.

Like this girl, probably. She certainly did not have the right attitude to be a covert operative or even a con girl, but she was cute enough to be useful regardless. Plus, knowing that she was at least somewhat reliable was useful one way or another. “Either way, there is always more to a given mission than fulfilling the nominal objective. Testing myself like this is as useful to me as being tested is to you in the long run. At the end of the day, we are risking life and freedom by doing what we do, aren’t we? There is no being too prepared.”
