She takes another sip from her beer, but then all she does is stare at him when he tries to say her surname, as serious and unreadable as usual.

After a few seconds, there is a light chuckle.

”That’s actually what it means, you know? Einar’s daughter. Einar’s my father’s name.” Not like Sol will bother with giving him a lesson on foreign naming conventions, instead turning her attention to her purse in order to reach for her wallet. She brings out her ID and offers it to Uriah.

no he didn't.

after another sip, he places his beer down before reaching over to accept her id card. he holds it close to his face, noticing her picture first, then her name. he's not drunk yet but it sure feels like it.

confidently, he reads:

"sol-vague run-ah einars-daughter."

looking back up at her, he cracks a smile.

"see? easy."

She takes the card from him then, returning it to her wallet.

and eventually,

"einarsdóttir. i got it right, didn't i?"

he's confident that he did. finishing off the rest of his beer, he signals to the burly barkeep for another round for them.

smiling at her, he leans closer, naturally gravitating towards her.

"and how do you pronounce the rest of it?"

Sol has never liked her surname, but this is something she has never told anyone. It’s not worth the trouble, but how could she like a name that acts as a constant reminder of the fact that she will always be the daughter of a man who barely even acknowledges her existence? Even now that they’re each other’s only family…

Thoughts of her father are unwelcome, but it’s still nice to hear Uriah put so much effort into trying to get her name right. Most people wouldn’t bother. Most people would give up.

”Ha. Yeah, you got it.” There’s a chuckle and slight smile, both fading away when she downs whatever beer is left in her glass.

She looks at him.
