she gets up to sort through the clothes they'd so quickly discarded. and then he backtracks and realizes she'd asked him a question. and he'd ignored it because of the wedding bells ringing in his head.

he stands up and goes to get his phone charger out of his pants pocket. he tosses it to her and then pulls on his jeans. "i mean, staying naked all day sounds good to me. we may've broken in the sauna, but i still have some plans for this bed."

and then he's out the door, heading past the reception desk and back out to the car. he grabs their bags - the ones they'd packed for their motel stay - and ends up running into the delivery guy struggling with their food.

he laughs and offers to help carry the food in.

when he opens the door, he politely asks the delivery guy to wait outside so he can bring everything in while eden retains her modesty. and after leaving a generous tip, he shuts the door again and looks at all the food they ordered.

he tosses her bag on the bed for her. "put whatever on, but i'm just going to take it off later," he says with a wink.

Eden watches him head out, and moves around the room, dancing to herself as she plugs in her phone. It comes alive with messages, and she sighs softly, turning it on silent.

It was romance time, not messaging people time. She could get back to the work emails - the hospital work emails, that is. And the therapist had reached out to set up an appointment, which she wanted to talk to August about. See if he'd go with her the first few times - because she was scared, and because he made her feel strong, and invicible, and like she could do anything -

Her eyes go wide when he opens the door with all the food, and blushes, ceasing her dancing and holding her towel a bit tighter as she watches the delivery guy's face as the door closes behind August. "Hey!" She gasps, feeling like she was caught doing something, when really she was just caught in her feelings about him, and her happiness at the situation. "Clothes." She makes grabby hands and tugs on a t-shirt and some panties and nothing else. After she's "dressed," she grabs a paper plate from the delivery bag and starts piling on food, grinning.

"I'm gonna eat the shit out of all this." She grins and starts digging into the food, ravenously.

he's not a possessive man, by any means. or, at least, he doesn't think he is. if eden wanted to go out right now and do whatever the fuck by herself, he might judge her emotional state, but he wouldn't pin her down and stop her from leaving. that being said, he does not like the fact that the delivery driver very clearly got a glimpse of his goddess prancing about in all her naked glory.

his expression sours as he puts the food down, but he shakes it off because of how happy she is and how happy she had been. and hey, if the guy walked out of here with his day made, then august has the satisfaction of knowing his girl really is drop-dead gorgeous. and all his.

he doesn't pile nearly as much food on his plate as her because he's not that hungry. their breakfast had been big. but then the smell hits him and he realizes just how ravenous he is - strenuous activity tends to do that to a person.

so he piles some extra food on and starts munching. a couple of clicks on the remote and the film starts playing. before it can start in earnest, he plants a sloppy kiss on eden's puffed cheek while she chews.

"you're gorgeous, you know," he says nonchalantly.

Eden blinks as he kisses her cheek, and realizes he's looking at her and not the movie. She pauses it for a moment and smiles at him, not wanting to miss a minute of either. Each was its own separate experience, and she wanted to experience them both with August.

I love you. I fucking love you. I fucking love you so goddamn much.

"Thanks, babe." She leans over - making sure her mouth is wiped with a napkin - kissing the corner of his mouth. "You're not too bad, yourself!" She winks at him and licks her lips. "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something a little bit serious? It's not bad or anything, I don't think... I just want to mention it before I forget, because I know I will if I don't bring it up now. Do you mind?" She turns towards him and waits for his answer, a smile still on her face.

they've only just begun and yet here she is pausing the movie. he doesn't mind, really, because he wasn't really watching it to begin with. he doesn't care for romcoms, doesn't really care for movies in general, but any excuse to be sidled close with her and watch her be happy.

he cocks a brow, completely at a loss for what she might say, but he's not stupid. he knows there's something that's been unspoken between them for a bit.

they haven't really talked about her father. he's not sure he wants that conversation now - he doesn't want it to invade their vacation.

but nonetheless, he smiles and puts his hand over hers, and says, "of course, princess. what is it?"

Licking her lips, she squeezes his hand and smiles a bit more tenderly now.

"Well, I've been offered a position at Lilycove General." She starts, but before he can express anything towards it, she holds up a finger. "If I go to some mandatory counselling and therapy appointments." Eden smiles softly, nodding. "And, while I know it's not the greatest time to bring up therapy of all things, I'm a bit scared of going by myself." She chews her lip for a moment, feeling her cheeks flush. It's the first time in a while that they've been this pink.

She's embarrassed of asking for help, but if she can ask anyone - it's him.

"I... was wondering if you could come with me? Just for the first few sessions. I'm just not that sure how I'd feel talking about that stuff with a stranger, but... It'd be easier if it was with you, you know?" She laces their fingers together. "So... Would you help me do that, so I can start working in a real hospital again?"

at first, he's confused. because when? but then he's ecstatic, and then he's even more ecstatic because of what it means. it's opportunity, it's growth, it's another chance for her. it's a fresh start. and then his intrigue wanes (just a bit) at the idea of going to therapy, something his father once called 'a meeting with a hack who thinks they know shit about you when they don't.'

but he'll do it for her; he'll do anything for her. and maybe, just maybe it could help. even if he wishes she could talk to her about it. although, maybe, this is how that happens.

he puts his plate down and moves her own out of the way so he can grab her in a hug and smush her against him. "that's amazing. and you're incredible. and yes, i'll go with you. i'll do anything you need."

Eden smiles at him as he agrees, squeezing his hand happily. "That’s great. I’m glad you’ll come with me. I promise they won’t be too long… and if you hate it, we can leave…"

But she knows it’ll be good for them both, and she wants this to work — wants to build a better life with him, and have a long future together. "And you’re happy about the job, right? Like you think it’s a good idea?" She asks.

he blinks at her, brows furrowing, thinking, did i not sound excited enough? "of course i'm happy about the job! babe, that's incredible. you're incredible. and smart and beautiful and strong and i know at least one of those things doesn't have to do with being a doctor, but it's still true."

he puts his hands on both of her shoulders and says, "i'm happy for you. and i support you."

Eden smiles softly at the way he reassures her, her eyes widening after every compliment. She lets go of his hand, but only so she can touch his face, smooth her fingers over his skin - check to see if he's actually real or a hallucination, because that would be just her luck - and then kissing him softly.

I love you. Screams her mind.

"Thank you. I want to get - to do better. For me, for you, for us." She smiles softly, speaking against his lips. "Let's watch the movie." She gives him another soft peck and slides away from him so she can eat, digging into her food happily, as she unpauses the movie.

he doesn't move as she runs her hands over his face. but when her fingers pass by his lips, he purses them, kissing her gently before she can withdraw.

and it's a wonderful sentiment, but he doesn't thinks he has to do any better. he's happy and she seems happy with him, and isn't that enough? regardless, and even though he doesn't understand the need for it, he'll do this for her.

he watches her eat, watches her attention get absorbed by the shitty movie. and he laughs when she laughs, but he's not really in the same present as her; she's enthralled by the screen and he's enthralled by her.
