The stone-room was a bust. Somehow, a heat-radiating hole in the room was worse than a hot room by itself. Still trying to shake off stiffness from hitting the gym without stretching, Casey set his sights on the hot springs proper. Again, the fallen idol checked in at the front desk. Again, the receptionist hadn't heard of his podcast.

A little sheepish about being naked at first, he seemed to be fine with it when it dawned on him that he could have a towel nearby, and that the mist would cover a lot of it. Furthermore, the water vapors radiating off the hot springs water trailed into the night sky. The little ribbons of vapor caught the moon's light, as Casey sat and arched his back on a rock, to work out a knot he had.

What sounded like commotion led to another bather entering, and setting up camp nearby. The two were flanked on all sides by rocks; not jagged but not so smooth as to have no traction. They could leave as they pleased. The air felt like swallowing a droplet of water. It looked like he was sweating already, when it was really just condensation covering every inch of him that wasn't submerged in water.

Casey looked tired, and his smirk disappeared fast. He had to come up with a little joke to break the ice. "...Hey. D'you ever wonder how Burt puts all those Bees in the lip balm tubes?"

A day at the spa seemed nice, and he was grateful to victor evans for bringing him. He wasn’t exactly sure what the man did aside form win big in casinos, but he knew the guy was busy. But at least he was generous. With the rest of the day to himself after their little soak together, Lana had gone about exploring the rest of the hot springs. And while he’d already soaked a bit once, he hydrated with some juice from a vending machine and set out again if only to look at how cool the other baths were. They all had different décor, right? There’s no way they were all the same. He stripped down his meager belongings and rinsed, flushing a bit at the sight of other people naked. [break][break]

Every person he saw made him feel awkward...inadequate. Garbage Baby pawed at his leg, and he promptly shook away the thoughts. Right, relaxing. Hot springs. Focus on the good. Lana forced back down his insecurities before stumbling out to the bath in nothing but a towel to over up his privates. Though it barely did that well. He missed his swim trunks… He noted another bather and quickly looked away, eyes already staring at well-toned arms and pecs. He half wanted to turb back, that insecurity coming back up. UGH. Maybe he’d ask Victor to join a gym…or get a personal trainer. He felt embarrassed to be naked and…well scrawny looking. He caught the other bath goer smirking and grimaced. Not with the condescension too! And then the purple haired stranger spoke as he slid into the water, trying not to flash him. Garbage Baby tumbled seamlessly into the water after him. [break][break]

Sitting across from Casey, he had been staring a bit earlier in envy but now he was staring at his face dumbstruck. “…w-….what….?” his voice is barely louder than a whisper and his Linoone splashed out of the water, jumping and splashing down as he attempted to imitate a Buizel. “Does…d-does he put bees in the tubes?? I-…” Lana, one who didn’t even own a lip balm, was vaguely familiar with the brand but not all too sure what gross ingredients in carried. “Really???” He’s clearly grossed out, but so curious at the same time.

The hot springs proper was a walled bath, though various troublemakers and counter-efforts left walls between bath areas a patchwork of cut holes and wood-filler over the bamboo. It looked like a polka-dot pattern. Water vapor peeled off of the water vat, forming ribbons in the navy-blue sky.

Casey had his own insecurities, but they were all personal. He couldn't even relate to not being a physical specimen. If he had physical insecurities, he'd simply use his minor celebrity to procure steroids. His own parents would frown on it, but perhaps @madeleine would see fit to shove him into the spotlight, what with Melody's month-long hiatus. His hair looked even thicker and heavier with the beads of water slowly seeping in. His hair was purple like carnations before their red mutation.

He pretended not to notice Lana's eyes scanning him. He yawned and reached up to put his hands behind his head, though that put his chest and shoulders into focus. They weren't huge, but he looked like he used them a lot. Then, Lana got caught up on the particulars of the joke.

Casey looked down at Lana, and offered him a little smile. Rather than try to force it, he'd move on. "...How long have you had your Linoone?"

Casy seemed to unintentionally flex, and Lana found himself gritting his teeth together before looking away. Ok, maybe he should consider going to the gym. Then again, was that really a concern when half the time he was sleeping on concrete? Be realistic, Lana. he thought to himself trying to shake away petty insecurities. Especially when the guy was trying to make polite conversation, probably not expecting a dumbass like him to wander in. “Oh uh- him?” [break][break]

Lana clamped his jaw shut, holding back more outbursts and organizing his thoughts together so he didn't completely ruin his first impression. Even if he didn’t think he'd ever see the purple haired bro again. “He’s been with me since I was...I-...I dunno- s-six? S-Seven?” Garbage Baby perked up somehow tracking they were talking about him. And as subject of conversation, the badger pokemon hopped onto the edge of the bath, shaking himself free of excess water, before padding over to Casey to sniff at him. “M-...My brother pulled h-him out of the d-dumpster b-b-behind the house. And-” despite the bitterness that usually came when he remembered @skye , Lana snickered at the memory. “I c-called him a baby...and he kept trying to c-c-call him Garbage- so- I- uh-.. His n-name is Garbage Baby.” There’s a long pause as the linoone barked at the sound of his name. “I-I’m Lana.” the trainer added, introducing himself.

Casey was completely won over by it all. By the badger, which he offered a hand to sniff out to. He was won over by the story, too. His eyes widened, thinking about it all. "That's really cute. And... Pets that you find like that are soooooooo strong."

He had the vocal fry of someone who blasted vaping cartridges, both of the ecig and thc variety. He kind of had to build up to his speaking voice, like a man doing karaoke "sliding" into an actual note in a song with a little mouth noise first.

Casey looked down at Lana, and offered him a little smile. "If you get a Lilipup from a puppy mill, it'll probably die. A Poochyena that you find outside... that'll be your friend forever."

Garbage Baby doesn’t even hesitate. As soon as he sees Casey’s outstretched hand, he opened his jaw, tongue lolling out, and gives it a good licking. His oversized tail wagged lazily behind him as he then gently headbutted the hand for pats, and eventually tummy rubs if this guy was good. Lana blinked, smiling politely but not quite following. “Y-Yeah…?” Garbage Baby was kind of a…well…not good at battling. He was independent enough to get up to things while Lana was busy, even going so far as to scavenge food FOR him sometimes. He was also pretty lazy, option to run away form conflict instead of confronting it head on. Cowardly, sure, but who wanted to get bruised over some cold strips of bacon inside a plastic bag?

“Oh- I-I uh…I didn’t k-know…all my p-pokemon just…show up to b-be honest.” It was a little weird how he could attract ghosts, but they had never really hurt him. To his knowledge anyway. Most lost interest after a while or after playing with them. The few he’d caught were ones that had followed him for miles. “B-But…I guess you’re r-right. He’s been w-with me for y-years…” at that he let out a little laugh, with Garbage Baby letting out a quick bark as he looked over at his trainer before back at Casey expectantly. “What…about y-you? W-Who’s your p-partner um…” He trailed off picking at the dirt underneath his nails before daring to look up at his companion. “W-What was your n-name again??”

The big badger rammed his hand with its head, letting Casey get in and rub its head with the knuckles on his fingers, as if it were a dog. It then rolled over in the water, letting him do the same to its belly. This was... endearing. Casey had the curse that every tall person had; of joints that needed to be taken care of. Thus, he'd stay in the hot springs even if it slow-cooked all the meat off his bones.

Casey was completely won over by it all. By the cute story that they just kept showing up. "...I just keep finding pokemon too. I guess if you're gentle enough, they don't want to fight you."

What did partnership really mean. What did friendship really mean. Casey dropped off the face of the earth for a few months, then got into playing with lizards all of a sudden. He had this cute Mantyke too, but he had to tell the story that he knew to be true.

Casey looked down at Lana, and offered him a little smile. "My first was a Barboach, which is now a Whiscash. It'd be kind of accurate to say that my family fished. It'd be more accurate to say that my uncle set a trout-line across Route 114. That Barboach was too sickly to eat, so I took it home and nursed it back to health."
