Her heart pounds. Her mind runs. A million thoughts a second as she looks at him while waiting for the elevator to come down to the ground floor.

A million things she wishes she could say.

A million things she wishes she could do.

And yet, all of them pushed aside in favour of simply smiling at him:

”Yeah, I did too.”

There’s a chuckle, and when the doors open with a familiar ding, she does no more than pull him in, then turning once again to look at him:

”I still am.”

This time, these three words come in company of a playful smirk.

the way his heart pounded in his chest couldn't be good for him but he embraced the sensation all the same. the thrill of it all. he returned the smile, and as the elevator dinged and the doors slid open, he hoped.

and it paid off.

the doors closed, and they found themselves rising through the building.

he turned, body pressing against hers as his hand went up to caress her cheek. strands of hair were brushed aside, and he leaned in close, though did nothing quite yet.

There’s something almost painful about the way her heart pounds in her chest, but perhaps it’s a good kind of pain. The kind of pain that leaves her breathless, the kind that makes blood rush to her cheeks because of how close he is, the kind that makes her smile because of the way he looks at her.

Without a word, she reaches up, arms wrapping around his neck as if clinging to him – as if she would never want to let go of him. And, there’s something almost expectant about the looks she gives him, as if she’s waiting for him to do something…

Wanting.

Wishing.

Craving him.

The elevator keeps going up, and they’ll soon reach her floor.

without a word, he reached for her, arms wrapping around her waist as he gently leaned into her. he peered down into her eyes, recognizing wants and wishes that didn't need to be said because he shared the same.

so he kissed her, relishing every moment no matter how short it was before the elevator doors slid open once again.

For a moment, she forgets all about the elevator.

About the way they keep going up, floor by floor, and about the fact that they will soon reach her own.

There’s only them; there’s only the kiss and the moment, and in this way, it is perfect. What she had wanted. What she had wished for.

Leaning in, she pulls closer, as if craving to be as close to him as possible. But, it’s not enough, is it?

Perhaps this will never be.

The elevator’s door opens at the ninth floor, and yet she doesn’t pull away from him.

he barely heard the ding! of the elevator. it was only when the doors slid once again that he broke away, jamming a foot between the doors. he looked back over, smiling, and found her hand once again.

"ready?"

’Ready?’

The couple of seconds that it takes her to respond feel like a small eternity, as if the world has been frozen still and there is only them. Them and the way he smiles at her. Them and the way he takes her hand.

Is she ready for it to end?

Or, perhaps, is she ready for what comes next?

There’s no real hesitation, and it’s with a gentle squeeze of his hand that she steps forward and out of the elevator.

”Ready.”

Never letting go, she leads them to her apartment's door.

time seemed to slow to a halt when around her.

he never minded it, nor did he now as she led him by his hand to her apartment's door. it was there that he finally let go, allowing her to unlock the door while he waited, patient as he could be.

Even though she knows what will happen, even though she knows it can’t just end like this, she still takes a moment to open the door, as if attempting to prolong things.

But, there’s only so long one can take to turn a key, and after a few seconds the door is pushed open, and she turns to look at him.

They should be saying goodbyes, but she doesn’t say a thing.

All she does instead is kiss his cheek, offering him her hand to take once again.

With this offer comes one of those soft yet playful smiles of hers.

Nothing needs to be said. Not really.

the door unlocked painfully slow but that had been exactly her intention. he rolled his eyes a little at the sight, chuckling all the same because it was expected by this point.

still, there was a possibility that the night could end there, that she could simply step in, close the door, and call it a night. he was glad it didn't, however.

he leaned into the kiss, then accepted her hand with ease.

There’s nothing all that remarkable about Lia’s apartment. It’s nice, as if it has been decorated with care and attention to every detail, but nothing about it is unique or special – at least not about the entrance or the living room.

But, it’s not like this matters, is it?

It’s not like they’re paying much attention to things like those.

Not with the way she looks at him the moment she closes the door.

”Lance...”

What is there to say?

She chuckles at how silly it all feels, and then, getting on the very tips of her toes in order to be able to reach high enough, she leans in to gently kiss him.

there was nothing else to say.

it had all led up to this, and so, without much of a word, he leaned down, meeting her halfway in a kiss that tipped him over the ledge.

he fell, not wanting to catch onto anything but her.

a step forward took her to the wall, pushing her against it as his hands started to roam.

They fall, but at least they have each other to hold onto.

Her back finds the wall, and she allows herself to be pushed up against it, a hand resting on Lance’s chest while the other reaches for his cheek. Her heart pounds, her breath quickens, and there’s something almost pleading about the way she looks at him.

Something wanting.

Something that comes in company with the ever-playful smile that never leaves her lips.

”Lance.”

She pulls closer, leaning in to whisper to his ear, and even though her next words may be obvious, they’re still said all too clearly:

”I want you.”
