A huge, golden Pidgeot touches ground at the outskirts of Fallarbor Town, its wingspan enviable and its expression full of pride. Amelia Livy, the Pidgeot's trainer, jumps off its back in a well practiced motion, and following closely after, so does the adorable little Eevee Xander Belmont had once given her — who now kept her company during the flight.

Most of Lia's work takes place at distant and isolated locations, and today, on her way back to Petalburg City, she had decided to stop by Fallarbor Town for the sake of allowing Otto some rest.

It's meant to be a short break, so she keeps her gear on the Pidgeot, as well as the complex compound bow for which many know the once Kyūdō champion.

"Do you want some snacks, Otto?" Lia smiles, petting the enormous bird-of-prey. Yet, while she's busy with looking after her ace, the little Eevee notices a group of pokémon nearby, and ever a curious one, he decides to approach them, wagging his tail.

As Shalin Nariya would perhaps notice, he wears a brown leather collar with the engraved name "EON".

The presence of the Absol is no concern to Lia. She's no stranger to ride pokémon, although her own preference generally tends to be avians. As long as it doesn't mess up any of her books or records, it's fine.

She's quick to turn her attention back to her task, sitting at her desk and looking at the broken ABSOLITE Josh Devlin shows her. Her smile is thin, sympathetic.

"That's a shame, although I bet it makes for quite the story." Many people would not agree, but Lia herself has always loved adventures and stories; it's part of why she became a historian.

Before anything else, she presses PLAY on the recorder on the desk, and when she speaks again her gaze is fixed on Josh, every word spoken with perfect diction and proper pause:

"Interview with Devlin comma Josh about the events that took place on November eighteenth on the surface of the nine-nine-nine-four-three Meteno meteorite, at the time Mauville City's Gym Leader and an Elite rank ranger." She does not say currently, given that these are records for posterity. Someone may listen to this recording long after Josh stops being a gym leader. Once the introduction is made, Lia addresses him. "Josh, your statement will be recorded and stored at the the League's Historical Archives. Along with many others, it will be used as a method to determine exactly what occurred on November eighteenth. Let's begin with your departure for the meteorite, shall we?"

Lia has always believed herself to be a good person. It's how her parents had raised her: be good, be kind, be nice, be caring, and look out for others. She had grown up believing in hospitality.

All this is starting to make Lia question if she's actually nice or not, because she feels an increasing need to slap Audric Black and tell him to snap out of it and get his shit together. Maybe slap colton fall. How is virgil roach the only other rational person here?

"If you had lost your shadow you'd be freaking out too." Tells her the little voice in her head, but is that really true? More than anything, she'd probably be... fascinated.

The Galarian Farfetch'd wacks Audric with its leek.

"Drink the damn tea, Peter Pan. I'm not chasing you shadow up to fucking Neverland." Is that reference even accurate? Probably not, Lia hasn't read that book since she was a kid. She's too annoyed by this whole situation to care, though. But, because the SHADOW TAG has taken hold of her as well, she's the one who opens the thermos and pours herself some tea in the lid's cup, chugging it without hesitation or doubt. Arceus' sake, it's fucking disgusting.

She grimaces, then taking a deep breath and looking down at the ground. Tentatively, Lia takes a step, sighing in relief when realizing that she can move freely again.

It's then that she gives the thermos to Roach.

"I'll go look for Audric's shadow. Roach is right, we should set up camp. It's getting dark and we can't leave without it." Despite what Lia had said earlier, she does intend to find it. Her brow furrows when looking at the group, more concerned than anything. "Sorry, I just—...Panicking will get us nowhere in a place like this."

With that, Lia steps away in search of the rogue shadow.

Much like the Kindlers, the Draconids are a topic studied by anyone and everyone who even considers obtaining a history degree in Hoenn. Lia had researched them at length at during her undergrad days, and even recently she had passingly discussed their civilization when venturing into this same cavern system in the company of FERNANDO SILPH and Locke Jamison. Naturally, that conversation had taken a much different turn, but much of what was said back then rings in her mind when looking at the shrine.

"You know, Otto... Records show that the Draconids had incredible power. Some even say this shrine still possess some of it." She muses out loud, speaking to the huge Pidgeot that now stands by her side, having grown tired of flying in this enclosed space. His wings are golden, as is his flowing crest.

"How about we pray for a good year, hm? That's probably not much to ask."
[break][break]
In Hoenn? It might just be.

Still, Lia pets the bird-of-prey she has come to adore, then clapping her hands in a heartful prayer to the Draconids.

The look Audric Black gives her says it all, and Lia can feel the burning heat at her cheeks caused by rising shame and guilt. The last time they had ventured into the Border, this strange dimension had clearly had an effect in their emotional states, so when finding herself standing in this same place with the same people, the historian feels as if apologies are in order...

Her companions seem to have other plans, however.

Straight to business.

"Oh, that's a great idea. Thank you." Lia still smiles when offered the tracking device. A soft and gentle smile that lacks in any of the previous annoyance and bite. By her side, a Galarian Farfetch'd stands, a huge leek being carried over its shoulder. "This is Negi. He'll be DEFOGGING the area for us so we don't have to deal with all that mist."

And in the absence of the mist, their surroundings can be seen much more clearly, as well as what happens to each other. virgil roach is the first to notice the rogue shadow, and against all odds, colton fall is the first to act.

A SHADOW TAG holds them in place, stuck.

"Colton." Lia sounds calm. She tells herself to remain calm; her thoughts exploring her mind's small archive of knowledge of the Border and the much larger archive of myths and stories that may relate to this dimension. "It's fine, we'll fix it."

She reaches for her bag, retrieving a small steel thermos and offering it to Audric.
[break][break]
"Doppel Bonnet infusion. Other people's reports on the area say it should help with the...uhm... shadow problem." She explains, because of course she had read as much about this place as possible before venturing in once again. "It's... probably not very good. I grew up in an onsen, but I've never been great at making tea."

Honest to fucking Arceus, Lia has half the mind to whistle for her Pidgeot to pick her up and abandon this pair of fools right here. How had she ended up here with these people? Why can’t anyone in her life ever be even remotely useful? The Border takes hold of her mind, and with every breath of its disorienting mist, her resentments bloom and grow — filled with thorns and poison.

He clings to her like a lost child, tugging at her sleeve and almost whispering with a trembling. He’s afraid. Should she be afraid too. How can she, though, when she has already seen her worst nightmares? All this place does is make her hateful and agree. Hate this place. Hate this mist. Hate these people. Hate the fact that if they get lost and she leaves alone, she’ll probably get blamed for all of it…

A DISARMING VOICE rings through the mist.

Lia takes a deep breath, grounding herself.

“I think that’s Audric. Let’s go. My Pidgeot can guide us back.” It’s an ultimatum; no chance to argue. Once it’s spoken, she takes Colton’s hand, perhaps to reassure him, or more likely to make sure he too won’t get lost and become more of an annoyance. Naturally, she also expects virgil roach to follow. “Otto! Do you see Audric? Take us to him.”

Up above, the silhouette of the huge Pidgeot can be seen circling over the group, and its with a screech that he responds to his trainer’s call. Good thing she had thought of having him follow the group. Once reunited with Audric Black, they can leave, and hopefully she won’t be so damn angry anymore.

At least she got what she came for, although its likely mist represents the grand majority of their footage.

The Rivers of Woe and Hatred.

When virgil roach verbally lashes out at one of the spirits accompanying them, it should all click, it should make sense, but instead, Lia finds herself frowning. It must really fucking nice, no? To be able to just wear his heart on his sleeve; to say whatever he wishes without worrying about how he might hurt others or even about what they might think. And colton fall? Knowing what to say? Being sympathetic? The voice of reason among them?

Under different circumstances, Lia would admire that about him, but this place twists that admiration into resentment.

That’s it, she resents her companions. Each and every one of them.

Uncharacteristically, the historian is quiet, her former excitement now seeming to have been completely forgotten. Her Emolga continues to record footage of the situation, and perhaps later, when looking through the videos, she will understand what’s going on, but right here and now, all she can think about is doing her damn job.

The only problem, though?

Soon after they step off the boat, she’s hit by a realisation.

”We’re missing one.” Lia declares after a quick headcount. ”Where the fuck is Audric?”

While most of Lia’s work involves venturing into places most wouldn’t dare venture for the sake of retrieving artefacts and keeping pristine historical records, there are subtler sides to this career choice of hers, and responsibilities that she must fulfill despite all the liberties granted to her.

It’s interesting and exciting, but in a different way from ruins and new discoveries. Recent history has great importance, and with over a month having passed since the disastrous events of November 18th, having allowed time for the region to begin to recover and heal, now is time for her work to really begin.

Among many others, Gym Leader Josh Devlin has been summoned to the building corresponding to Hoenn’s Historical Archives, and when he enters the office corresponding to Historian Amelia Livy, it’s with a gentle smile that she greets him, standing from her desk.

”Josh, right? Feel free to call me Lia. It’s nice to meet you.” She introduces herself, politely extending one small yet calloused hand and offering a handshake. Perhaps a sign of how little time she spends in this office.

”They explained to you why you’re here, right? We’d like to have a detailed record of the events of November 18th, so we’ve been asking a few people to recount their experiences. Have a seat. Do you have any questions before we begin?”

When Lia had been assigned to record data on the Silent Icelands for Hoenn’s historical archives, she had not expected to end up on a small expedition with her own sister, but it’s a welcomed surprise all the same. Doubtlessly, their parents would be happy to hear about their daughters working together.

Later on, when Lia thinks back to this day, she’ll smile at Marshall’s urge to protect her and make sure she’s okay. It’s sweet. However, because it’s sweet, when it happens it also makes her feel terribly guilty. She shouldn’t be worrying him like this.
