”Sounds like a plan.” There’s no reason for her to question FERNANDO SILPH’s decision, nor does she have the authority to do as much. She does wonder why they suddenly need all these meteorites, but the assumption is made that surely the councilman must be acting with the good of Hoenn in mind. After all, this had been a request made by the League, not by Silph Co.

Petting her golden Steelix, she tells him to stay since the tunnels are narrower, and while Helix coils up to nap until needed (of course he’ll help the workers if they need to dig something out), Lia steps steps farther into the cavern.

This time, she makes use of the magnet she had brought with her – small, portable, and potent. A few meteorites are marked to be dug out, and it’s only once she hears Locke Jamison’s question about the cavern’s inhabitants that she pauses for a short moment.
[break][break]
”It’d be pretty crazy if there were people, right? Records say that the Draconids once lived here… There’s even stories of a whole village existing in the cavern, but that may be just stories.” She shrugs and gets back to work. Yet, a historian’s curiosity exists within her. If it were up to Lia, if she had the resources, she’d search for the supposed inhabitants of Meteor Falls.

She smiles at a Delibird when it passes by her side in order to collect a small meteorite.

To be completely honest, she had been left speechless.

Lia has been to plenty of meetings in her life; plenty of presentations, conventions, assemblies, and things of the like. None had ever gone as poorly as this one. She doesn’t blame the organisers, though. She doesn’t even blame any rangers in particular. She does blame the circumstances and the poor timing of it all.

Tensions are high and temperamental as she is, it’s often that even Lia has to hold back from yelling at people for focusing on the wrong things when the world is fucking ending. She distracts herself with desserts in order to maintain composure, and all of her complaints are whispered under her breath for only Zahra Belsky to hear.

She does reach for her phone once, though. All for the sake of sending PENELOPE LIVY a simple text message:

And speaking of things that are uncool, such are her thoughts of the primal point in Petalburg. It fills her with concern for both her hometown and her family, to the point that when it’s announced that the meeting is coming to an end, a decision has been made by her.

”Zahra, can you grab me some leftovers too? I’ll be right back.” She tells Zahra Belsky with a soft smile before standing.

After a deep breath, she approaches boruta maher.

”Captain Maher, right? I’m Amelia Livy. I’ll be filing my temporary transfer to Petalburg for the sake of helping with the primal point… My family lives there, so it seems only right, you know? Let me know if there’s anything you need of me. I look forward to working with you.” She smiles at him too.

The choice to open with GRASSY TERRAIN had been done with purpose, reason, and care. It hadn’t been just about aesthetics or about what fit her performances’ theme: she had centred the introduction performance around it. It had been, above all else, gambling.

Performance after performance, Lia watching carefully, hoping, when @nikita finished her spectacular number, the historian found herself clapping even louder than what she had for the other contestants. Why? Simple enough: no moves used by her opponents had disturbed the lingering effect of the GRASSY TERRAIN.

Now is her chance.
[break][break]
She calmly steps onto the stage, Lei gracefully flying by her side while his string of blooms twists and turns like the ribbon of a rhythmic gymnast.

”Tell me something… Is there anything more enchanting, mesmerising, and adorable than springtime in Hoenn?”

The moment the question rises in the air, flowers begin to bloom all around her: on the ground, on the stage, on the poles, on the lights, and on every tree in the surrounding area. By will of her Comfee, enhanced by GRASSY TERRAIN, FLORAL HEALING marks Verdanturf’s farmlands.

”Let me remind you what Hoennian spring is like!”

Lia raises a hand, Lei flies up around her, and every flower bursts into an explosion of petals that swirl with the movements of the Comfey.

Those watching would find that along with the gorgeous sight and delightful aroma, there’s a refreshing and reinvigorating effect to the performance. Healing. That of Lei’s FLORAL HEALING, enhanced by his natural TRIAGE ability and what little remained of the terrain he had set up previously.

Lia may not know much of contest combinations, but she does know how to make use of her Comfey’s every move so that they perform to the very best effect possible.

When she had mentioned traps, it had been a joke – she hadn’t expected any of them to still be active at this kind of ruin. Perhaps she had tempted fate with her words. Or, seeing things from an optimist’s point of view: perhaps she should be glad she had made Marshall overly aware of the traps, and that they had come to the desert on this specific day instead of any other.

”Marshall?!” Lia still worries when he calls out to her, though. She looks at her Smeargle, quickly telling the pokémon to stay where it is and continue its work while she goes to investigate.

The sight of the trapped Cranidos fills her with concern.
[break][break]
”Gods… I doubt it can walk right now. We could try catching it to take it to the pokémon center, maybe? I wouldn’t wanna put it in any unneeded stress, though… Do you think you could pick it up?” Kneeling by the side of the trap, Lia looks up at Marshall, and it’s then that she releases a second Comfey from an Ultra Ball – this one carries only red flowers.

”Fey, do you think you could make a rope with vines?”

Sure enough, this Comfey does know VINE WHIP, and it soon attaches its vines to a nearby pillar.

Her life is in Hoenn, it has always been, and truth be told, Lia had thought it always would be. She really had never entertained the thought of living somewhere else, but when Marshall mentions Unova, looking up into his eyes, she allows herself to imagine what it would be like.

He hadn’t said anything about living with him, but the thought is there anyway: moving to some quiet town in Unova, finding a place together, and having the sort of nice and uneventful life Lia has only ever read about in books and seen in movies. Peaceful, quiet, and nice. Neither of them are made for peace and quiet, that much is obvious enough, but maybe she could get used to even something like that if it were with him…

”Maybe… There’s a lot of places in Unova I’ve always wanted to visit.”

Lights fade once the third performance ends, and when they make their triumphant return moment, she is standing in the middle of the stage.

Clad in flowing white and gold, she gently holds the microphone that she gazes down upon. Her expression is calm, a soft smile upon rosy lips, and her platinum hair falls over her shoulders – free. Crowning her head there’s a string of blooms which colours perfectly match those of her attire, and those who pay close attention would perhaps realise that this is indeed no simple floral headpiece: it’s a Comfey.

"The windswept highlands with the [BREAK]sweet fragrance of grass."

The traditional words of the town are spoken for all of the audience to hear; words many of them would surely recognize. As if in agreement with them, the flowers rise from her hair, carried by the Comfey that draws graceful loops as it flies up in the air.

Energy is released by the Comfey in steady pulses, and all over the stage, blades of grass grow into a luscious carpet. They sway with the breeze created by the small fairy, shining and filled with energy. GRASSY TERRAIN.

Lia smiles at the audience, raising a hand towards her airborne partner:

”I’m Lia, this is Lei, and today we want to show you some of the things we've come to love about Hoenn. It all begins right here.”

Simple, sweet, and full of meaning. Joining the contest had been a spur of the moment decision based on a request from the museum, but Lia is no stranger to showmanship, and she’ll gladly give a great performance when it’s about something she cares for. Hoenn, in this case. Verdanturf, anew.

Who is doing the cooking?

She knows he’s teasing her… Or, well, she assumes that he’s probably teasing her, but the comment does no more than heighten Lia’s feelings about how domestic this conversation is. Her blush deepens and she focuses even harder on packing the lunches, and yet as takes care to methodically prepare another sandwich, the realisation comes that it’s not at all a bad feeling. Even if it’s embarrassing, even if it makes her heart beat stupidly fast, talking about these things with Marshall is nice. She likes thinking about it.

The rest of the conversation, though? Not so much.

She’s honest because it’s him, because it matters to her, and because she wants him to understand. Hoenn is her home, it has always been, and as much as Lia has travelled and learned about other places, she has never even thought of living anywhere else.

”Oh…” Lia turns to look at Marshall, golden eyes looking up into his. A strand of hair is gently tucked behind her ear. ”...Like where?”

Marshall’s Kommo-o makes for an impressive sight, and inevitably, the contrast between it and the dainty little Comfey she releases awakens a chuckle that lightly echoes through ancient stone. Lei, one of Lia’s most trusted pokémon, gives her companions no more than a quick look before flying to rest on top of his trainer’s head – the string of white and yellow blooms he carries being as if a flower crown.

Lia doesn’t seem to mind this, as if she were used to the behaviour of his Comfey.
[break][break]
She is.
[break][break]
The second pokémon she releases is a Smeargle, which gets to work with sketching their surroundings while Lia herself takes pictures.
[break][break]
”Depends! Desert’s notoriously full of ground and rock types. In a ruin like this, we might even find a few fossils.” She explains in response to Marshall’s questions, walking among pillars. ”Oh, you might wanna watch where you go too. You know… Wouldn’t wanna activate any traps.”

With that, she pauses, turning to look at him, and at that very moment, there is a smirk. Is she messing with him? Absolutely.
[break][break]
Shame something seems to interrupt them by catching the attention of Marshall’s Kommo-o.

”Maybe we should go have a look?”

”No way. For real?… Marshall! Remind me not to let you cook anything ever.” She laughs, obviously joking, but this joke in itself causes her to abruptly turn her attention back to the sandwiches they’re making, being all too aware of the blush that suddenly colours her cheeks. It sounds way too domestic. This would feel like it too, honestly, if it weren’t for how aware she is of all the people around them. It sounds nice, though… Cooking with him. Even if it clearly would be a disaster.

And then Marshall brings up other sorts of disasters.

For a moment there, Lia focuses on packing another lunchbox, silent while he asks the sort of questions most foreigners ask about Hoenn. Does he hate it here? Does he wish he were back at Unova, where everything is easier? She tries to push those thoughts away when she turns to face him.

”There’s been a lot of catastrophes over the years, so I could spend all day telling you about them. Even if it’s just the ones here in Slateport… Ah, but I think that’s kind of the beauty of Hoenn, you know? A region full of people who have survived it all.” Lia gives him a smile, soft and gentle, and it comes followed by an equally gentle laugh. ”I probably wouldn’t like it nearly as much if I hadn’t grown up here, though. I was still living in Slateport when the Ultra Beasts first appeared here a couple of years ago, and honestly, it was a kind of terrifying time.”

That's putting it mildly, but she doesn't want the conversation to take too much of a dark turn.

Her hand brushes against his when she takes the helmet, the feeling of leather being all too familiar. It’s distancing, in a way, but it elicits a blush all the same – one that only deepens when she sits behind him and wraps her arms around his waist. So close. The last time he had been this close to her was when he jumped in the water to save her.

The hum of the engine steals away the thought, and as they venture into the desert, she can’t help but smile; her head gently resting against Marshall’s back while watching the dunes pass by. It’s fun, exciting, and Lia knows well that it’s not just the speed that makes her heart race, but she tries to ignore this and just enjoy the ride until the ruins are in sight.

Little remains of what had once been, stone still standing as if by miracle despite the persistent desert winds. Some would care little for a place like this. To her, it’s amazing.

”Yep, that’s it.” When she takes off the helmet, fingers brush through silver hair in an attempt to make it less messy, only pausing when catching the look he gives her. Lia smiles then, with the kind of bright smile that is full of excitement and wonder.

”Come on. I just need to take a few picture, but there might be wild pokémon around, so we should be careful.”
