TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. while others talk about alternatives and pray for an answer to drop from the sky, fernando takes fate into his own hands. it is through hard work and perseverance that he’ll brute force a solution in the face of the inevitable. after all, an AQUA ASSEMBLY has served as both a reminder and to highlight the futility of the others.

“ah,” he says when face to face with today’s help. “the rocks marked by livy will be the ones we move to processing. i trust we’ll have no issues with getting these enroute to ever grande?”

free lance contractors work in the background. some of them wear league vests while others represent the construction company they work for. under fernando’s check, they work together to excavate portions of meteor falls for movement. as for the movers, through Locke Jamison’s own tenacious grit, DELIBIRD DELIVERIES' reputation is second to none.

"Hold still," he muttered to the wiggling Delibird at his feet, trying to pry itself away as he adjusted the yellow hardhat protecting its skull. The rest of the penguins ranged from uncomfortable to curious about their protective gear-a necessity within Meteor Falls' expansive cave system. Even his Shaymin was kept under the safety of the helmet atop Locke's own head.

The Delibird finally found an opportunity to escape as the bossman approached and the courier snapped to attention-or at least the best he could with the crutch stuck awkwardly under his arm.

The affirmation was genuine despite their nerves, feeling far more confident than they had on their last job in the area with Raziel Beckett. No, their nervousness was due more to the client in question-one Fernando Silph-whose only previous interaction had been their brief confrontation in the digital world.

Imagine their surprise, being hired by the man hardly a month after that rocky first impression.

Recovering artefacts for the League is quite the broad job description, but generally speaking, when contacted with a new task at her workplace in the Lilycove Museum, rocks are not what Lia expects to be identifying and retrieving.

Ah, but these are not any kind of rock, are they? They’re meteorites, and even if Lia is no mineralogist, much less an expert in meteoritics, she can easily identify those visible among the rocks of the aptly named Meteor Falls. Golden eyes wander over volcanic rock, then falling upon dark stones marked by the thumbprint-like indentations formed when a meteor’s outer layer melts during flight.

”Helix, try this one here for me, will you?” She tells the golden Steelix peacefully coiled nearby, and calmly, the Iron Snake Pokémon lifts his gigantic head, looking down upon his trainer. Yet, it’s with extreme gentleness that he begins to emit the magnetic pulse of a MAGNET RISE. Not strong enough to lift his huge body, but definitely to test if the rocks will be attracted. Sure enough, they begin to shake, moving closer until the pulse suddenly ends. She sadly isn't in possession of a pokémon with MAGNET PULL, because this is not something she often does, but Lia and her trusted pokémon can adapt easily enough.

Lia nods, turning to look at both FERNANDO SILPH and the short deliveryman with his oh so adorable Delibird.

”Most meteorites are full of extraterrestrial iron and nickel.” She tells them with a soft smile, used to explaining this sort of thing to people. Perhaps it's the result of all those years working in museums in Slateport and Lilycove alike. ”These ones here have regmaglypts, I’d guess iron due to the colouration.”

It’s then that gaze then fixes solely on Locke Jamison.

”Ah, but meteorites can be really heavy, even if small. Will your Delibird be alright?”

This is a job and fulfilling it is what matters the most, but Lia also happens to have a ranger licence (as made clear by her red armband), and true to her ranger nature, she does care for the wellbeing of the pokémon involved in this operation.

A NOD OF APPROVAL besets locke’s declaration. “i would hope so,” starts what could equally be the onset of misgivings. “you have a heavy reputation to uphold, mister jamison.”

his choice in pokemon is questionable but not one that fernando has any explicit issues with. to own this many implies that he is an expect in the species. a respectable caretaker should know their capabilities as well as their limits. if not for reputation, then word of mouth grants locke the benefit of the doubt.

“ah,” fernando hums with confidence when lia calls them over. he understand very little of what she says but you could never tell with the way his eyes scan over the shuddering pieces.

a small device sits in the palm of his hand. he brandishes it casually, waving it over several pieces, but the machine seems unresponsive. a single dot lies in the middle of a blank screen, blinking occasionally.

“it’ll do,” grants his blessings as contractors move to carve rock out of mountain.

They were quite proud of themselves for managing not to flinch at Mr. Silph's steely tone, though it was clear soon enough that it was same cadence he took with everyone-or maybe just with the help.

Locke understood exactly none of what the woman said, and it showed in the blank stare they gave the stone wall presented to them. Regardless, they pulled out a notebook-the spiral-bound and college-ruled sort you'd find at the bottom of a teenager's schoolbag-and took a few notes about metals from space and iron "reg-mag-lippeds" before they were addressed again.

"Not to worry, ma'am!" he replied, snapping the journal closed with his best customer service smile. "Delibird are a lot stronger than they look. In the wild, they march up and down snowy mountains all day with their tails stuffed full of food, so something like this is a piece of cake for them!"

Having twenty of them to distribute the workload between also helped. Teamwork makes the dream work!

"And even if a problem comes up, I keep plenty of other Pokémon on hand to help." He tapped his satchel a few times, revealing the metal clink of metal against metal as the Pokéballs left loose inside were jostled around. His Shaymin also peeked out from under his hardhat at the noise, sleepy and displeased by all the ruckus.

”Ha. That’s true! I’ve always wanted to see Delibird in their natural habitat, they’re fascinating little birds.”

Lia is, in fact, quite the fan of avian pokémon, but while she could sit here and talk to Locke Jamison for hours upon hours about all of their Delibird and what each of them is like, she resists the urge, knowing FERNANDO SILPH probably wouldn’t appreciate that very much. They’re here to get a job done.

She does not know what the machine in his hands is scanning for, and she also resists the urge to ask.

”If we go a little deeper into the cavern we might find some older meteorites, if that helps.” She points out then, knowing it’ll take a bit for the current ones to be carefully dug out. A gloved hand brushes over the rocks that form the cavern’s wall, eyes searching while she walks towards a nearby path.

Locke decided pretty quickly that he like this woman-Amelia Livy, was it? He wondered if there was any relation to a certain reporter…

Of course, he wasn't here to follow her orders. Just as soon as it seemed the two were starting up a good rapport, the whip was cracked and the pace doubled. Penguins shuffled here and there throughout the cavern, passing off stones in a line formation as the workers sorted them into indiscernible groups.

Mini-Mini's purpose in being here was revealed as well-gathering the growing amount of dirt and dust into the flowers along her back and filtering it into breathable air. It earned the Shaymin some appreciation from the miners, and she pranced around the room soaking up the praise and particles alike while the rest of the crew worked.

"Er-You just mean Pokémon, right? Sir?" Locke finally dared to speak up again as the room settled into rhythm. They imagined themselves stumbling into a tomb full of zombies and skeletons, like a dungeon in a video game.

They'd probably die to a trap or something.

”Sounds like a plan.” There’s no reason for her to question FERNANDO SILPH’s decision, nor does she have the authority to do as much. She does wonder why they suddenly need all these meteorites, but the assumption is made that surely the councilman must be acting with the good of Hoenn in mind. After all, this had been a request made by the League, not by Silph Co.

Petting her golden Steelix, she tells him to stay since the tunnels are narrower, and while Helix coils up to nap until needed (of course he’ll help the workers if they need to dig something out), Lia steps steps farther into the cavern.

This time, she makes use of the magnet she had brought with her – small, portable, and potent. A few meteorites are marked to be dug out, and it’s only once she hears Locke Jamison’s question about the cavern’s inhabitants that she pauses for a short moment.

”It’d be pretty crazy if there were people, right? Records say that the Draconids once lived here… There’s even stories of a whole village existing in the cavern, but that may be just stories.” She shrugs and gets back to work. Yet, a historian’s curiosity exists within her. If it were up to Lia, if she had the resources, she’d search for the supposed inhabitants of Meteor Falls.

She smiles at a Delibird when it passes by her side in order to collect a small meteorite.

“BY POKEMON, YES,” he clarifies at the sound of locke’s stuttering. he barely bats an eye when they venture deeper. for no matter how deep they go, it will never descend as far as GIRATINA’S DOMAIN. it was here that they stumbled into DISTORTION WORLD by chance. a route that’s proven impossible to retrace.

“but the draconids did live here. so did REGIDRAGO,” he reveals, unconcerned with the confidentiality.

“unfortunately, team rocket destroyed the village when they tried to pillage the remains. they awakened REGIDRAGO in the process and that’s what set it off in the MOUNT CHIMNEY incident last year.”

AND TO EVER GRANDE, the marked meteoroid material goes. Safely. Covertly, perhaps. Some scientists have dubbed Hoenn's particular meteoroid material as METEONITE, claiming it could possess untapped power.

There may be some credence to the idea after all. General Smohke had led the charge at Meteor Falls during The Ultra Beast War to seize this asset for Megalopolan kind. And now, these meteoroid pieces were being delivered to RAYQUAZA at EVER GRANDE as part of its recovery diet, overseen by Head Scientist Eva Morales and freya morningstar.

Another meteoroid comes soon. Prophesied by the mural in Meteor Falls; the cyclical nature of history demands it.

Wonder fills Lia’s golden gaze when FERNANDO SILPH speaks of the Draconids and their village. She’s envious, in a way. If what the councilman says is true (she has no reason not to believe him, after all), she really wishes she could have seen the village before it was destroyed by Team Rocket.

”To just go and destroy such an important historical site…” There’s a sad note in her voice when she muses out loud while testing another potential meteorite. She adds it to her list of reasons to dread Team Rocket. People who don’t care for preserving Hoenn’s past are among the worst in Lia’s own opinion.
