All this is starting to make Lia question if she's actually nice or not, because she feels an increasing need to slap Audric Black and tell him to snap out of it and get his shit together. Maybe slap colton fall. How is virgil roach the only other rational person here?

"If you had lost your shadow you'd be freaking out too." Tells her the little voice in her head, but is that really true? More than anything, she'd probably be... fascinated.

The Galarian Farfetch'd wacks Audric with its leek.

"Drink the damn tea, Peter Pan. I'm not chasing you shadow up to fucking Neverland." Is that reference even accurate? Probably not, Lia hasn't read that book since she was a kid. She's too annoyed by this whole situation to care, though. But, because the SHADOW TAG has taken hold of her as well, she's the one who opens the thermos and pours herself some tea in the lid's cup, chugging it without hesitation or doubt. Arceus' sake, it's fucking disgusting.

She grimaces, then taking a deep breath and looking down at the ground. Tentatively, Lia takes a step, sighing in relief when realizing that she can move freely again.

It's then that she gives the thermos to Roach.

"I'll go look for Audric's shadow. Roach is right, we should set up camp. It's getting dark and we can't leave without it." Despite what Lia had said earlier, she does intend to find it. Her brow furrows when looking at the group, more concerned than anything. "Sorry, I just—...Panicking will get us nowhere in a place like this."

With that, Lia steps away in search of the rogue shadow.

The look Audric Black gives her says it all, and Lia can feel the burning heat at her cheeks caused by rising shame and guilt. The last time they had ventured into the Border, this strange dimension had clearly had an effect in their emotional states, so when finding herself standing in this same place with the same people, the historian feels as if apologies are in order...

Her companions seem to have other plans, however.

Straight to business.

"Oh, that's a great idea. Thank you." Lia still smiles when offered the tracking device. A soft and gentle smile that lacks in any of the previous annoyance and bite. By her side, a Galarian Farfetch'd stands, a huge leek being carried over its shoulder. "This is Negi. He'll be DEFOGGING the area for us so we don't have to deal with all that mist."

And in the absence of the mist, their surroundings can be seen much more clearly, as well as what happens to each other. virgil roach is the first to notice the rogue shadow, and against all odds, colton fall is the first to act.

A SHADOW TAG holds them in place, stuck.

"Colton." Lia sounds calm. She tells herself to remain calm; her thoughts exploring her mind's small archive of knowledge of the Border and the much larger archive of myths and stories that may relate to this dimension. "It's fine, we'll fix it."

She reaches for her bag, retrieving a small steel thermos and offering it to Audric.

"Doppel Bonnet infusion. Other people's reports on the area say it should help with the...uhm... shadow problem." She explains, because of course she had read as much about this place as possible before venturing in once again. "It's... probably not very good. I grew up in an onsen, but I've never been great at making tea."

Honest to fucking Arceus, Lia has half the mind to whistle for her Pidgeot to pick her up and abandon this pair of fools right here. How had she ended up here with these people? Why can’t anyone in her life ever be even remotely useful? The Border takes hold of her mind, and with every breath of its disorienting mist, her resentments bloom and grow — filled with thorns and poison.

She has never felt like this before. She has never been so full of hatred for people she barely knows. Hell, has she ever even hated anyone at all? Those who have hurt her? Even Team Rocket for all the pain they have caused her? Maybe not before, but she sure hates them all at this moment, and she wants to let them know…

He clings to her like a lost child, tugging at her sleeve and almost whispering with a trembling. He’s afraid. Should she be afraid too. How can she, though, when she has already seen her worst nightmares? All this place does is make her hateful and agree. Hate this place. Hate this mist. Hate these people. Hate the fact that if they get lost and she leaves alone, she’ll probably get blamed for all of it…

A DISARMING VOICE rings through the mist.

Lia takes a deep breath, grounding herself.

“I think that’s Audric. Let’s go. My Pidgeot can guide us back.” It’s an ultimatum; no chance to argue. Once it’s spoken, she takes Colton’s hand, perhaps to reassure him, or more likely to make sure he too won’t get lost and become more of an annoyance. Naturally, she also expects virgil roach to follow. “Otto! Do you see Audric? Take us to him.”

Up above, the silhouette of the huge Pidgeot can be seen circling over the group, and its with a screech that he responds to his trainer’s call. Good thing she had thought of having him follow the group. Once reunited with Audric Black, they can leave, and hopefully she won’t be so damn angry anymore.

At least she got what she came for, although its likely mist represents the grand majority of their footage.

When virgil roach verbally lashes out at one of the spirits accompanying them, it should all click, it should make sense, but instead, Lia finds herself frowning. It must really fucking nice, no? To be able to just wear his heart on his sleeve; to say whatever he wishes without worrying about how he might hurt others or even about what they might think. And colton fall? Knowing what to say? Being sympathetic? The voice of reason among them?

Under different circumstances, Lia would admire that about him, but this place twists that admiration into resentment.

That’s it, she resents her companions. Each and every one of them.

Uncharacteristically, the historian is quiet, her former excitement now seeming to have been completely forgotten. Her Emolga continues to record footage of the situation, and perhaps later, when looking through the videos, she will understand what’s going on, but right here and now, all she can think about is doing her damn job.

Soon after they step off the boat, she’s hit by a realisation.

”We’re missing one.” Lia declares after a quick headcount. ”Where the fuck is Audric?”
