[attr="class","freypost"]at the end of the day, we all have selfish reasons why we do the things we do. she doesn't say this aloud, of course, because the words carry a meaning that's far too easily construed--too damaging, to someone in her position. she wants to be trusted, needs to be trusted, especially--as she's coming to realize the longer she talks to him--by the person before her.
when she's alone, when she has her leatherback journal unbound, dissonant cursive scribbles littering the page, his name will be the first to fall under her potential something big. he will play a part in her future, whether he knows it yet or not.
she laughs. "aeris has taught me more self-care than anyone i've known, except perhaps my parents." the motherly dragoness snorts in disagreement, though her tail flicks appreciatively. the younger dragoness leans forward and sniffs alexander's offered hand.
she nuzzles him curiously and then pulls back, head cocked. and then both dragons slither past him as freya bounces on the balls of her feet, a new sense of excitement spurred by alexander's reminder.
"oh, yes," she says and then turns down another street corner, backtracking her way to the building she'd left early this morning. a modest lodge, pale gray brick and overlooking the shore to the west, comes into view.
she opens the doors for alexander and fishes out her card key, waiting until they're alone in the elevator to say, "i need some updated tech for my bow. i have a few ideas, a couple of schematics that might work, but i don't have the connections nor the scientific brain of my own to piece together what i want."
