the alarm from inside the bank sounded, which meant they had failed to keep watch. but had they really? even if he was distracted, he made sure to keep a careful watch over their surroundings, and he was certain he didn't see anyone shifty go in.

so did they TELEPORT in?

"we gotta go."

the playfulness in his voice disappeared as he looked back to sol before taking off into a run.

Then, she looks at Uri, and nothing more is said before running back into the building.

The bank should have been prepared and there probably isn’t anything of value in the vault, but they still need to catch the people doing this and make sure no harm comes to anyone.

the kommo-o nodded, and uri was surprised that she knew his nickname for her. the dragon-type followed closely behind, charging through the doors to the bank with ease.

What they find is an almost empty bank vault and a handful of masked individuals whose confusion is almost palpable despite being unable to see their expressions.

Among them, in the middle of the vault, floats a Claydol; probably the pokémon they used to teleport inside, and also the one that watches the entrance with alert scarlet eyes.
[break][break]
Claydol that is quick to attack as soon as they show up.
[break][break]
A PSYBEAM hits the Houndoom, Sol herself ducking against the wall in order to avoid getting hit too.

”Fuck. We won’t make it in there with Claydol in the way.”

months of training had led up to this moment. now, in the face of adversity, was a chance to prove himself. no longer was he just a screwup, bound to his surname and all that came with it.

his hand slapped against his belt, calling out a pyroar.

"the claydol!"

kommo-o and pyroar charged in, flanking as they looked to dismantle the claydol.

meanwhile, uri tried bypassing it entirely, keen on getting to the burglars.

Rushing towards an attacking pokémon is definitely not a good idea, but with the Claydol distracted, it’s not like the intruders can easily get out unless they have other pokémon that can use TELEPORT.

It’s not like Sol can tell him what to do in this sort of situation anymore, can she?

ANCIENT POWER hits the pokémon as they approach the vault, a SANDSTORM also rising.

It’s always about the SANDSTORMS, isn’t it?

Any fire attacks her Houndoom could use wouldn't do much good indoors, especially in such an enclosed space. So, what to do?

Perhaps if it flinches they'll have a chance.

flames licked the air that begun to OVERHEAT despite the thickening SANDSTORM. still, uri persisted, because this was nothing unfamiliar to him either.

as he approached the burglars, he drew another pokeball, calling out bob the perrserker.

Perhaps, later on, when looking at these events in retrospect, the way the thieves quickly give up as if knowing they have no way out will seem surprising or even suspicious to them. Perhaps, there may just be some hidden reason why they put their hands up the moment Uri mentions being Slateport PD, barely even putting up a fight.

One of them calls for the Claydol to TELEPORT them away, but instead the pokémon’s eyes begin to glow almost ominously...

uri blinked, and the next thing he saw was a flash of white followed by intense heat that threatened to consume them whole.

he grunted, made an indescribable sound as he felt his back slam into the wall. his head bounced off, and his vision grew blurry.

on the ground, he peered up, and through hazy vision he saw the kommo'o stood over them. it dropped shortly after.

he looked around.

his ears rang violently, silencing all else as he struggled to find his bearings. he tipped back, meeting the wall which he used to help him to his feet.

as dust began to settle, he saw her, and he rushed towards her.

"sol! are you okay?"

he could barely hear himself, and so he raise a hand, signaling for an 'okay?'.

It’s not the first time finds herself near an explosion. It probably won’t be the last. But, no matter how many times it happens, the shock and the pain still come.

She can tell herself to keep it together, she can know exactly what to do, but can she actually react as she knows she’s supposed to?

The ringing brings back memories of the warfront.

It makes her feel sick, lightheaded, and her eyes water just as Uri approaches.

It’s softly that she shakes her head as if to tell him he shouldn’t be worrying about her, and while holding onto the wall, she stands slowly and carefully.

the words didn't need to come. his priorities had been set far before they walked into the vault, and the thought of burglars, of all things, didn't occur to him in the moment.

all on his mind was her.

and so, he reached for her, helping her to her feet.

in the background, his perrserker snarled at what remained of the burglars.

There’s no way the culprits could get out, not when their injuries are far worse than those of Sol and Uri. They had no brave Kommo-o to protect them from the blast, after all, and from the looks of it, it also took them by surprise.

Even if they have other pokémon that can TELEPORT, the Perrseker keeps an eye on them, and the approaching footsteps of their backup can be heard soon enough.
[break][break]
But, Sol looks at Uri, and it’s firmly that she clings to his shirt, even if her words are nothing but a whisper:

”What the hell, Uri...”
[break][break]
Why had he continued going forward when she had told him to stop?
[break][break]
Why is he here now when they need to continue with their mission?
[break][break]
Does the mission really matter the most, though?
[break][break]
In the end, isn’t she more relieved that he’s okay?

If only for a second, before backup shows up, she allows herself to rest her forehead against his shoulder – for once actually listening to her own feelings instead of to what her training and logic have taught her.
