The Greenhouse

and i miss, the way you make me feel
a stepping stone pathway leads to the greenhouse. outdoor flower beds are empty, barren with the cold weather approaching. she'd moved the roselia inside where it's heated. [break][break]

and that heat greets her now as she steps through the door. sunlight filters in through the glass ceiling. she dons gloves, shrugs out of her flannel and ties it around her waist, and sets to tending her patients. [break][break]

it's rhythmic, what she does. gideon and thistle follow her about, dragging mulch and handing her clippers when she needs them. the only time they keep their distance is when she's tending to mold-ridden or mite-infested residents.

and i loved, the way you looked at me elisabet isn't much good with money, but that's never really mattered. willow grabs the change jar from behind the counter and sets it, takes and squeezes her leavanny's hand gratefully, and then grabs her mud boots from behind the counter as well. [break][break]

it's a cramped space. the shop is the lower level of her and her family's living quarters. arrangements sit in fresh water, tended to by the leavanny. notecard placards sit beneath some of them, willow's penmanship describing the essence of each flower, the messages behind each bouquet.

The Hearth & Home

and we stole, all the holes we had to breathe several yards back from the greenhouse is a small shed. it's cobbled together (because she and her father are the ones who'd done it), but it's functional. she grunts as she uses her shoulder to pop the latch out front and then she kicks. a muddy footprint stains the door, but it's clearly not the first. [break][break]

inside smells of sage and a little bit of sawdust. she grimaces as she trails dirt over the soft rugs that cover the floor. a daybed sits nestled in the back; it only takes a few steps to cross the distance to it. [break][break]

gideon helps her get bo in the bed. sunlight streams in through stained glass windows, coloring his face with soft greens and yellows. when he's all set, she takes her own boots off and lights a few incense sticks. the smoke will clear his lungs, but it will take time. [break][break]

in the meantime, she looks at her belongings. almost through his lens. there are her meditative pillows, well worn and nestled on top of the rugs that cover her floor. a guitar stand with an acoustic is caddy-cornered by the entrance. [break][break]

with no electricity, wrought iron sconces hang from the walls, their candles half burned. she looks at him, and then away as tears finally well in her eyes. look at all i've done without you, idiot.

willow raised her from a sewaddle. her original trainer dropped her off with willow's father and never came back to pick her up. so rather than give her to a family friend like their father suggested, willow opted to take her in. it was difficult, raising her alongside her other toddler, but somehow the pair of them grew together.[break][break]
