Truth be told, even though Jessie was expecting her brother to show up, she was startled when she heard the knock on the door followed by "it's the police!"

She had dosed for a few minutes, and she completely forgot that her brother was the police showing up.

So when she opened the door, looking frazzled, she groaned at Uriah. "Why'd you have to do it like that?" she said, though she kept it open so he could come inside.

"because it's fun. i usually get to kick the door down, though."

he's quite sad he doesn't get to do it this time, but it's fine. he'll survive.

taking a step in, he closes the door behind him before offering her one of the cups.

"it was eight dollars for a cup, actually. kinda expensive but..."

he shrugs.

"how are you doing?"

Jessie gave him a look before heaving a sigh and taking the cup from him, all too pleased to actually have a warm drink and be away from that body now.

"Oh. Well... I'll pay you back if you want."

She could at least offer.

Leading him to sit on her couch, she shrugged. "I'm fine. It's just... weird seeing something so dead. You know?"

"you can get the next one."

the season will likely be over by then, though, but he doesn't mind because then it'll be winter, his favorite season.

he sits on the couch, nodding his head.

"yeah..."

the first time he saw a dead body wasn't that long ago, actually. he still remembers the feeling of dread that crept into his system — dread that no matter what he did would not fade.

"was that your first time seeing a dead body?"

Jessie slumped down onto the couch next to him, leaning her head on his shoulder. She blew on the drink before taking a sip, only wincing a bit since it was still hot.

"Yeah. I'm used to people passing out or something like that, but not dying. They at least still look like they're alive."

As if sensing her need for comfort, Finn the Delphox and Lucy the Alolan Raichu came out from her room, where she had released them when she gotten home. Lucy got excited to see company, approaching her brother excitedly while Finn came to rest beside her.

"How do you do it?"

alolan raichu's excitement is easily returned as uri turns to greet it.

"uh, i repress the hell out of it."

though he chuckles, some truth holds in his statement. it's one of the toxic natures GABRIEL BLACK shared with his son — or disciplined, rather.

"i'm sorry you had to see that. but, look, just realistically speaking, i think there's a high chance you'll be seeing one again."

he sighs.

"hoenn's pretty dangerous compared to sinnoh."

Lucy climbed onto the couch, curling between Jessie and Uriah so she could get attention from Uri. The little heifer.

"That's a big yikes, Uri," Jessie said with a serious look.

She couldn't really say much herself, though. She did much the same with other situations, whether or not they regarded a dead body. She wasn't sure how she'd cope with this one.

"You make it sound so luxurious here." Sarcasm oozed in her voice.

Jessie sighed, sipping her coffee. "I dunno. I guess I could, working in the area I do and all. It's not like working in a club is the safest job."

"it's definitely not ideal."

but he has no idea how else to deal with these troubling emotions, so until he learns, he'll stick to what he knows.

he chuckles, sipping at his coffee as well.

"the club giving you any trouble, by the way? anyone i gotta rough up for you?"

Jessie's Delphox sprawled across her lap, laying over her with his arms over his chest like a person. She patted Finn's head, appreciating the warmth that the coffee Uri gave her and Finn's fur provided her.

"Nah. I'm pretty alright there. You know, besides the occasional patron trying to step over their boundaries, but..."

She shrugged.

"It's nothing I can't handle, really. You should come on a night I'm off. I won't make you suffer by seeing me dance." She laughed.

"thank the gods."

he laughs, though he really should pay a visit, seeing how he's yet to. he wants to be the supportive brother and all, of course.

"i'll bring Sol Edelman along. make it a date and everything."

the idea actually sounds pretty fun.

"what about dad? he giving you any shit?"

"I still haven't met Sol Edelman, you know. Why are you hiding her from me?" she said, giving her brother a look.

Then he mentioned GABRIEL BLACK. She frowned, before scowling and huffing.

"He still thinks I'm a disappointment. You know he came to my work and told me that I shouldn't be working there because it doesn't uphold the Black family name?"

Her fingers tap aggressively against her arm.

"He had the audacity to walk into my place of business and say that to me while I was on the clock. What the fuck, Uri!"

truth is, they've both just been really busy between training and dating that they've barely found time to do anything else. things are starting to slow down, however, as he continues to settle in with the police.

"join the club."

the disappointment club, as they both are in the gorilla eyes of their father.

"fuck him, man. he's just a dick."

'a dick' is sugar coating it.

he sighs, admitting something he's known for a long time.

"i don't think anything we do will ever be good enough for him."

"Well, at least you're in the police force. I'm just a no good stripper in his eyes."

That wasn't even what Jessie did. She never stripped.

Well, never wasn't accurate. Hardly ever was more like it.

"I don't know. It was so frustrating. He caused a scene and everything. Like he had no idea that I was working."
