it hadn't been easy to secure a new identity, but thanks to the help of Killian Decker, he has one that's sparkly clean and free of any criminal records, which is what allows him to purchase their old penthouse.

driving with her in the car she bought him for his birthday, he slowly takes them through the streets of mauville, venturing up the hill towards a familiar destination.

smiling, he tilts his head over to her briefly to comment:

"i'm pretty sure you can guess what the surprise is going to be."

After the Soiree Serena had decided to give Danny a break. Not to mention with everything that happened there, there was a lot to process. From the incident with Greyson Connors progressing to a dangerous climax, she was obligated to inform her mentor on this developing events. And so she informed Cillian Quinn on what was going on, though the meeting hadn't gone exactly how she expected it to. [break][break]

From there she went to work. The Interdream Zone had left a bad taste in her mouth. In fact, that fear that she had experienced while trapped there was what finally motivated her to get a move on. Her new identity was wrapped up nicely thanks to the help of Gavin and Killian Decker and she decided to make it a reality sooner rather than later. [break][break]

Greyson wielded a powerful weapon against her and she didn't want to be caught unawares. Having this new identity would do her well as she adjusted to these new developments. So, committing to her new role she decided to change her appearance to suit her 'new self'. It was the polar opposite from the glitz and glam she used to partake in. She looked normal and somehow it still managed to fit her. The biggest change being how she chopped off her hair. [break][break]

She was still getting used to it. She'd had long hair for as long as she could remember. It was dyed jet black and her fringe was rough and looked as if she'd cut them herself. Despite that fact it looked good. Piercings, a different style of makeup, and the removal of her blue contacts added into the shift. She looked like a completely different person and hopefully with her 'acting'. she could pull this whole thing off. [break][break]

Still, the real struggle would be slipping back into her 'Serena' role. Throwing on the wig, the glitz and glam and picking back up from where she left off. She purchased a home in Sootopolis under her own name for publicity purposes. When the public found out she lived there she would be free to move around as her other 'self'. [break][break]

Taking care of all this and more had kept this rocket beast busier than she expected to be. So before she knew it, it had been a while since she reached out to her boyfriend. Instead, he contacted her to let her know he had a little surprise for her. So here she was in his car driving up the familiar pathway to Mauville Hills. [break][break]

"i'm pretty sure you can guess what the surprise is going to be." he said with a smile flashed in her direction. Amber hues drifted up towards their destination before locking on to Danny once more. "So you finally bought it back?" she asked though she was already sure of the answer. "Had they changed anything since we 'moved out'?"

"nah, they left it untouched, pretty much."

he approaches a turn, slowing down as he flicks the appropriate turn signal.

"i guess it's cause we made the place look amazing so there wasn't much to change."

and soon enough, they arrived at what was once their home. the car stops at the driveway, and after putting it into park, he sighs, turning to look at her instead of the house.

"i guess we're home."

"nah, they left it untouched, pretty much." Serena nodded. That made a lot of sense considering the amount of effort that they had put into the renovations. If they were smart, and it sounded like they were, they'd be able to sell off the place at a higher price than they originally had bought it. [break][break]

"i guess it's cause we made the place look amazing so there wasn't much to change." Danny confirmed her thoughts but it only caused Sera's forehead to crease in concern. Danny quickly maneuvered his way down familiar roads and before she knew it they were parked in the driveway she hadn't been to in months. [break][break]

"i guess we're home." Danny said as he looked over to her after killing the engine. Home. It had an odd ring to it now. Her frown deepened, "Are you sure this is okay?" she asked as she turned her amber hues to focus on him. "I don't imagine purchasing this again was cheap. Not to mention..." she drifted off as she stared up at the building. "It could harbor some painful memories." she said this last bit softly. Out of the corner of her eye she caught movement, it was a little unfezant passing by which made her frown before turning her attention back to her boyfriend.

it definitely wasn't cheap, and on a rocket's salary? unimaginable. but danny's connection to his family still brings with it some perks, even if he doesn't talk to them anymore. it's just easier that way.

"yeah...i was thinking it might be painful as well."

a sigh escapes as his gaze travels out the window. briefly, he swears he could see an unown floating by, but it must be just his imagination.

"but i'm fine with it, really. the house doesn't really matter, what matters is that i still want to be with you and to live with you."

he shrugs.

"anywhere is fine as long as you're there, even if it isn't here."

"yeah...i was thinking it might be painful as well." Danny said before a heavy sigh left his lips. Serena watched him carefully while she nervously played with the ends of her hair. She didn't want to cause Danny grief just because he thought that he needed to do this for her. She was about to tell him as such but he spoke again before she could. [break][break]

"but i'm fine with it, really. the house doesn't really matter, what matters is that i still want to be with you and to live with you." Serena's eyes widened as she stared at him. Then maybe this wouldn't be as big of an issue as she had imagined it. Perhaps she was just overthinking and overcomplicating things again. "anywhere is fine as long as you're there, even if it isn't here."[break][break]

Serena leaned forward and kissed him. He really was good at saying just the right things. "You're right." she said when she finally pulled away from him. She offered him a bright smile reminiscent of the one's she used to give him before everything went to shit. "Besides, I'm rather attached to this place." She said as she looked back towards the apartment. "If you really think about it. This place is kind of like our baby. All the months of hard labor we went through with it and all." She said with a chuckle before she unbuckled her seatbelt. [break][break]

Grabbing her pumpkin spice latte she quickly opened the door of the car and headed out. But not before peaking back in. "Let's go have a look." she said with a smile and nod in the direction of the building complex.

it fills him with relief when he sees her bright smile once again. it's been so long that it almost looks foreign on her features, but he's thankful to be able to help bring it back, even if only for a moment.

he returns the kiss, unbuckling his seatbelt after.

"huh. i never thought about it like that. yeah...it kinda is like our baby."

after closing the door of the car, he reaches for her hand before tugging her into the building.

the doors of their home swing open, and things look exactly like it did before. nothing much has changed.

"it's almost like we never left."

Their hands stay intertwined even as they walk into their home. It'd been such a long time since either one of them had last been here. So much had changed between the both of them since they were last here even. It made the short months they were away seem more like years. Even so, the familiarity with this place was still here. She knew every nook and cranny, having learned to maneuver around the house stealthily in the dark and avoid stumbling long ago. [break][break]

With her free hand her slender fingers brushed against the marble countertops that they had both picked. The process was grueling as they every single option either one of them suggestion just didn't 'feel' right until they had come across this one. She remembered how happy she was when the kitchen renovations were finished. This area was her sanctuary but above all it had a piece of both of them here. She felt she had read too deeply into at the time but designing this home with Danny was probably one of the most special things they could've done. [break][break]

A small smile brushed across her lips as fond memories of this place came pouring in one after the other. Like all the nights they spent curled up cozy in front of the fireplace or when Danny would surprise her with breakfast in bed some mornings. "it's almost like we never left." Danny said beside her which was what managed to pull Serena from her thoughts. A soft chuckle escaped her lips. "A good thing too. I would've livid if I walked back in here and all our hard work was ruined by someone terrible tastes." she said with a slight pout before turning to face him fully. [break][break]

She bit her lip for a moment as she let her amber orbs linger on him for a moment. Giving one last glance to their surroundings she took his hand in both of hers. "I am really happy to be back here." she said with a soft smile. "But, what's the real reason you brought me back here?" she said after pausing for a moment. [break][break]

She was referring to how neither one of them was talking about the elephant in the room, how they had left things unsaid after the soiree. Hell, Serena hadn't even told Danny about just what she had encountered in that damn Interdream World. She hadn't spoken to him since he reached out to her. She'd since calmed down but she knew better than to leave things unfinished. She didn't want issues arising later because they decided not to clear things up between the two of them once and for all.

awkward isn't the right word to use but it's what he decides on anyways. honestly, since the soiree, he's had plenty of time to think about what happened. about Greyson Connors punching him. about the bitter pain of losing a friend forever.

"i know things were kinda awkward at the soiree..." Serena held back a sarcastic snort at that comment. That was the understatement of a lifetime but she'd let him continue. "i dunno. i guess i just wanted to apologize as well. for snapping at you. you didn't deserve that."[break][break]

Withdrawing her hands from his she crossed her arms across her chest. She was glad she got an apology, she was thoroughly pissed that night but she did understand where he was going from. "I don't want to say it was fine because it wasn't." she said with a sigh, "But you already know that. I'll accept the apology, thank you." she said as she turned to look out of their big windows at the city below. [break][break]

"Danny....I understand why you did it. But..." she said as she frowned. If she didn't take care of this Gavin would eat her alive like she was some feast. "I trusted you." She said as she slowly turned back towards him. "And I guess you can say I had it coming. I deceived you for months. But...that's why I tried to end things." She paused as she looked down at the floor. "Rocket does not handle stuff like this well. Not only did you put yourself in danger but you put me and Greyson there too." She continued with a heavy sigh.[break][break]

"I just want you to do better. This cannot happen again." She said with a huff before waving her hand and walking past him, making her way to the living room. "That's enough preaching from me though. What else did you have planned for today?" She said as she made her way towards their couch that was conveniently placed near the fireplace which would serve to warm her up on this chilly day.
