their first matchup doesn't favor them but that's fine. torchic will have to get used to fighting at a disadvantage because challengers will simply be fighting that way.

despite his order, torchic can't help but tremble a little as the gible closes the distance with a TACKLE. it collides against torchic, drawing damage right as fire starts to wrap around torchic's body.

in return, a FLAME CHARGE is produced, creating distance after impact.

it's enough to scare the gible away.

"not bad, but you backed down at the start."

their next encounter is a slowbro, who looks dazed and confused as ever. an APRICORN falls onto its head and even then it doesn't react. it simply stares at nothing in particular.

"watch for its water attacks."

something that should be obvious still needs to be said for young torchic. the fire-type nods, then springs forward to start their battle.

it doesn't take torchic too long to finish it.

"huh. maybe it doesn't know any water attacks."

a golisopod doesn't really fit into his team at all, so he doesn't quite see the point in capturing it. but it does look really cool, almost like it's an alien of some kind.

and he has no choice to, really, as one of its SLASH almost faints his torchic.

"the fuck? get back up, torchic."

but the fire-type remains on the ground and throws out a FLAMETHROWER instead, perhaps too weak to stand up.

either way, it's enough to blind the golisopod for a pokeball to consume it, catching it by surprise.

"gotcha dumb ass."
