"tada! i got the pizza!"

he had gotten through the doors with precise and skilled use of a mixture of elbow, chin and nose movements with both of his hands occupied. on one hand had a triple stack of pizza boxes precariously balanced on his palm. on the other was a tray of limited edition venti triple shot, non-fat, half-sweet pumpkin spice lattes with extra whip cream and caramel drizzle.

when he enters the premises of the lab, there was no one but the intern that worked for rocket as a lab assistant, except she's probably ranked lower than him since she doesn't work directly under the head scientist.

"wait, where's everyone?" he asks her. "i got all these too for our very own special birthday party for ryan too."

most likely, they have gone to a different site for the same old project they've been doing, leaving the assistants (of which there is only one at that moment) to do the unwanted work.

Being a lab assistant isn’t the most exciting job in the world. Sure, the science part is great, but the part where she has to stay behind to clean the lab while everyone else goes to do cool things somewhere else? That part sucks, but thankfully, priam conrad comes in as if her saving grace.

"or maybe they're out partying to enjoy their lives!" priam answers back without missing a beat, trying to get optimistic.

he settles the boxes down on the first empty desk he finds before he goes looking for coasters on other tables for the fancy overpriced coffee he had also bought. with how addicted these people are to coffee, there's bound to be some of them lying around.

"nevertheless, you got the best deal there is!" he exclaims when he finally finds one on a neighboring desk. "a solo date with me and these pizza! they're special limited edition recipe too, with marinated unfezant chunks, and all that other goodies that i didn't bother reading about on their menu!"

he leaves the coffee on the table with a grin.

In truth, Ceri doesn’t have the optimism nor the energy to match Priam’s, but the way she grins with such brightness and cheer could have probably fooled anyone.

”I’ve never had unfezant on pizza, is it good?” Tilting her head ever so slightly, Ceri looks at the boxes, wondering why is it that rich people always have to put the weirdest ingredients in things and make them bougie. What happened to plain ol’ moomoo cheese?

”By the way, is that thing supposed to be on all the time?”

She means the crackling fire of the furnace nearby, the one that has been making the lab feel strangely warm as of late. It’s not an unwelcome feeling at all, but she had grown used to the cold of the submarine.

a quick "i hope so!" answers her question.

the smell already seeps through the box, escaping for the entire room (consisting of only two people) to take in. mouth waters as priam opens the box when an inquiry about it was asked.

"that?" he repeats. "uh, usually, larger pokemon take a longer time to smelt down. it's probably one of those cases that they're forced to leave it running."

pokemon were resilient creatures in the first place, after all. even though they may be weak to fire, it takes more than a few embers to completely turn their biological parts to ashes and a few more to liquefy metals in their body to its purest form.

he leaves the pizza box for a while and nears a desk near it where a computer displays logs of the progress. priam types in his own passcode, verifying access, and then scrolls through the screen.

"someone apparently had an entire metagross in there," priam dictates accordingly, taking note of Killian Decker's contribution, before turning back to ceri. "there's a backlog of mons that follows it too, so yeah, we're gonna have it here for a long while."

Trying not to get too distracted by the delightful aroma coming from the box, Ceri listens to Priam’s words, nodding along as he explains why their ever so cozy lab has been outfitted with the weirdest fireplace in the history of fireplaces.

”Damn, a whole Metagross?! You’d think a few Beldum would be easier to melt down. Though I guess that’s not the point.” Of course it’s not, she knows as much, and watching the flames burning behind the small window in the furnace, she claps her hands together once more – this time almost as if she were raising a prayer for the Metagross’ soul. ”Hope your body gives us something useful, Mr. Metagross.”

”At least it’s warm, though.” Brushing away all thoughts of the Metagross within seconds, Ceri reaches for one of the lattes, taking a temptative sip.

"my own pokemon? nah. they're too useful for me and training a new batch just takes a long while"

priam had previously all the time in the world. lately, assignments kept on piling up. most of them were taken in by him voluntarily to flex though, so he can't blame anyone but himself for this predicament.

he could catch pokemon solely for it too, but the same excuse holds.

"my job right now is to solicit for big chonky steel-types from the big players of rocket. well, that and the usual stuff with this kinds of things."

he takes a sip of the latte, the sweetness of it visibly bringing a smile on his expression.

"do you want to donate one for the cause too?" he teases.

"you can get away with being casual when you're cool enough," he answers her initial inquiry with a proud smirk. the smug look carries until the next answer, which was just a nod.

he grabs a slice of the pizza as he settles the cup of coffee on the table. taking a bite of the pizza, he chews on it first before reacting to ceri regarding her image.

"hey! you don't know these days, y'know! i'm a firm believer of 'don't judge the book by it's cover'! except me though. i'm as the cover says: very cool."

everyone seemingly carries large pokemon around like they have the cash to feed them anyways. money didn't seem like a problem to those within rocket anyways.

"you can keep your muk too! not because of what you said, but because you'll probably need him if you don't have the super cool steel-types."

Is priam conrad cool?

Perhaps not in the ways Ceri would usually think of when thinking of someone who’s “cool”, but he’s cute, and nice, and honestly, fucking hilarious. That seemingly boundless confidence of his is almost contagious, and there’s something way too funny about the fact that he definitely is smart, but he also acts almost like your typical jock. It makes being around him fun, so yes, Priam is pretty damn cool in Ceri’s book.

Still, azure eyes squint when looking at him, as if she were thinking really really hard about his words – considering if he’s cool or not. an ultra rare pokemon that none has ever seen in the wild. most were caught from deep within the earth and were just redistributed to capable trainers. he wouldn't be surprised if ceri hasn't seen one.

"that one's on the top of the list! they resist, like, eleven types! that means i can just turn my brain off when i fight with them since they're likely to be strong against any kind of attack you throw at them! not to mention they crawl up the ceiling too and swim in lava! two important points of their coolness factor!"

just like slugma, but priam ignores that comparison if he can.

"second place goes to ferroseed, hands down. scizor would be a contender if scyther just wasn't that much cooler than it!"

She sure hasn’t seen any in person, but she has seen pictures of them, and they don’t look very aesthetically appealing from Ceri’s point of view. Then again, Priam’s explanation is valid and has nothing to do with aesthetics, but Ceri is the sort of person who likes having cute pokémon… Or, well, at least what she would consider to be cute.

"oh, is that where they're supposed to grow? i've been planting mine on a pot of soil! i'll see what i can do next time for my ferroseed!"

he'd probably bring home a bunch of rocks in their apartment and chuck the ferroseed there. he only has just learned how to fertilize soil for potted plants, but he can learn how to fertilize rocks too, maybe.

"wait, you just use your scyther as a lawnmower? you're missing out then!"

in the midst of their nerding out, priam has his phone ring. the subject of the email relates to the current project, whose contents manages to get priam to grimace upon reading it.

"ugh. looks like i have to go somewhere else."

he quickly stuffs a pizza in his mouth and takes another cup of coffee for the road. "crff yerr rurter!" he tells with a full mouth as he ditches the assistant in her lonesome once more.
