a tree towers over them, and though he's paid it no mind, he soon finds his attention drawn towads it as leaves ruffle, and it's not from the wind.

"what is it?"

beep!

"okay. get ready, then."

and sure enough, a single larvitar drops out of the tree, falling towards them with its sturdy IRON HEAD. he takes a lunging step back, avoiding the impact only to feel porygon2 vibrate with a PSYCHIC that holds the larvitar on the ground.

a safari ball is thrown after, capturing the ground-type.

stay out here for too long and he'll be sure to pick up a farmer's tan, that much he knows. not that he minds it, however, as he's become used to it over the years.

"let's move on."

a short walk later takes them to a bulbasaur, whose PETAL DANCE blows past them, threatening to sweep them off their feet. it's a good thing porygon2 has balls for feet, because it simply rolls back then to the side, doing a u-turn before it fires off a ZAP CANNON that stuns.

it makes the capture that much easier.

as lance proceeds on, porygon2 stays rooted in place. unnaturally so, which immediately alerts him of the EXTRASENSORY that rings in its head.

"fight it."

an order that doesn't need to be said.

porygon2 beeps a few times as its TRACE scans the nearby vicinity, copying HEAVY METAL from the wild bronzor. and it's then that it LOCKS-ON, and after a brief moment, it fires a paralyzing ZAP CANNON through the bushes.

just to be safe, lance throws a safari ball towards it.

nothing answers him.

he turns back only to find his porygon2 missing.

"jelmo?"

picking up into a slight jog, he looks around, coming up to a cliff's edge before peering over it.

"oh, shit."

his porygon2's fallen down there, apparently, how exactly he's still not too sure.

"stay there!"

out of all the pokemon out there, this is the one he's read about the most. he's studied its dex entries, researched its histories, and has come to the conclusion that there must be some truth to it.

it is said to carry wandering spirits to the place where they belong so they can move on.

since the accident, he's found one, and only one. so he assumed the best.

until now, that is, when one floats towards him. and just like the one he owns, he can't stand the thought of letting go just yet.

so he captures it, holding on to the past for just a little while longer.
