Elliott nodded. Fucking Rustboro. The slummiest part of the city too. But he didn't really feel the need to mention that, not when they were trying to have a good time.

Still standing, he stared at Ceri rather intensely, almost as if he wasn't paying attention to her words. Rather, he was just... looking at her. Thinking to himself whether the words he was about to say were a good idea or not.

Where he got this boldness and courage, he didn't know. He'd learn in the morning, it was the alcohol.

"Hey, Ceri... you wanna get out of here and... well I mean, you wanna come to my room?"

Elliott knew there was implication there. Whether or not she'd accept, well, that was up to her. He offered his hand, waiting for her to take it. If she didn't want to go, well, he'd at least take her back to the sub.

It was getting late.

It’s all too obvious from the way he looks at her; that intense stare she has seen one too many times before. Craving. Just like the craving in the way she looks back at him, her gaze meeting his. And yet, when the question comes, it’s still unexpected and surprising, perhaps because she never imagined he’d be bold enough to blatantly say something like that.

It’s still a little awkward even when he’s drunk, but that makes it endearing and almost sweet, and truth be told, drunk as she also is, Ceri barely notices it. She smiles brightly.

”Sure… I’d like that.”

There’s no witty comment, there’s no teasing words, there’s just the way she takes his hand – gently squeezing as she stands up, still so very close. And of course, she holds onto him then, hit by sudden dizziness.

There was no teasing. It was unexpected, but it was surely appreciated. If anything, it makes him blush harder. But he holds her hand as she stands, unable to help laughing at her a little bit as she held onto him.

"What, can't handle it after all?" he teased.

However, he helped her regain her balance and led her out of the bar. She certainly wasn't the only one feeling dizzy. There were a few times that he almost ran into a pole.

They were approaching the dock to hop back into the Rocket sub. The door was already open, waiting swallow them back to their home. However, as he reached to get in, he slipped.

"Shit-!"

And fell into the water.

”Eliiiiii. Don’t be mean.” Ceri whines, puffing up her cheeks as she protests against his teasing. In truth, she doesn’t really mind all that much, and that shows in the way she smiles gently as he leads her out of the bar.

Not once does she leave his side on their way down to the docks, holding tightly onto him, and while it’s enjoyable and there’s a certain comfort in it, it’s when they finally reach the submarine that this proves to be a fatal mistake on her part...

He slips, and because of how sluggish she feels thanks to all those shots, she’s too slow to react and let go. That’s how she ends up falling too.

Curses rise in the air as their bodies go down into Sootopolis’ bay with a loud splash, a mouthful of salt water causing her to panic as much as suddenly being cold and wet does. It’s almost instinctively that she swims up to the surface, coughing up water the moment she breathes in air.

Eli was momentarily stunned by how cold the water was, but he was quick to paddle up to surface the best he could with his shoes and clothing. He reached the surface, coughing and trying to snort water out of his nose.

He heard Ceri call his name, looking around before spotting her. His hair was dripping into his face, but he flipped it back as he paddled over.

"I got you. I'm sorry," he said, his arm coming under her arms as he pulled them to the ladder at the dock.

Once he managed to get her out, Eli climbed out, kicking off his shoes to dump excess water out of them. They were both equally drenched, and now he was freezing. He was sure Ceri was too.

So much for going back to his room...

"Shit, I'm sorry. Let's get in. I'll walk you to your room."

It’s not like she wants him to apologize, or like she expects him to, because it isn’t really his fault. Even if it was, thoughts of where the blame lies are nowhere in her mind, because she’s too preoccupied with trying to get the hell out of the water while shivering intensely.

See, Ceri may have been born and raised in a city where snow falls almost perpetually, but that sure doesn’t make her immune to the effects of falling into cold water on a night of late Autumn.

”I–… It’s fine…” It’s not, but all she can do is exhale in relief once she makes it onto the dock, sitting there for a moment as she takes off her shoes. She’s tired, and freezing, and the wet clothes sticking to her body sure don’t help at all. How is it that things changed so easily in a matter of seconds?!

”Y-yeah… We’re... We're gonna get sick if we stay like this.”

So much for going back to his room.

Her arms cross in a futile attempt at keeping herself warm as she walks back towards the submarine’s entrance, and it’s only once inside that she properly looks over at him, reaching to take his hand with a tired and somewhat pitiful smile.

”...It’s not your fault, you know? Thanks for the help out there.”

The walk toward her room was dangerous. Elliott, for one, was leaving so many puddles on their trek back. But he also felt like he could slip at any second. He held her hand regardless.

"No problem."

The weight of the alcohol and the night finally hit him, and he was just tired. He wanted to get in the shower, warm up, and go to sleep.

Perhaps it was good that they weren't going back to his room after all.

"You good? Do you need anything?"

Elliott was going to make sure Ceri was settled before leaving, though.

If Ceri weren’t so damn exhausted and hadn’t drank so damn much, she would probably worry about a million things as they make their way to her room through the dark corridors of the sub. Like the fact that they’re soaking wet and will likely get sick, like the awful hangover that will inevitably come with it, like the water dripping on the floor, and even like how she probably looks a mess and wouldn’t want anyone to see her like this – specially not someone like him.

Exhausted as she is, she doesn’t think of any of those things.

She just holds onto him, gently squeezing his hand, and when they finally reach the door to her room, she turns to meet his gaze – considering his words. There’s a part of her that wants to tell him to stay, but that would just be awfully selfish of her.

”I’m okay, go get some rest... Thanks for tonight, I had fun… Even if it turned out like this.”

There’s a gentle yet tired laugh, an equally gentle goodbye kiss being placed upon his cheek. A peck and nothing more, just as she squeezes his hand one last time before letting go to open the door.

Elliott nodded. He knew a hot shower awaited him, a change of clothes, and his bed... it was all in reach. He was shivering in the hallway.

His mouth opened to say something, but he was cut off by her kiss to his cheek. That certainly warmed him up, just a little bit. He was not expecting it.

"Y-yeah, of course. Uh... I had fun too..."

Fuck, she threw him off guard.

"Good night."

Perhaps not the most eloquent of goodbyes, since he was now almost scrambling to his room. But it wouldn't be the last time they were seen together.
