It wasn't exactly a secret, he supposed, that there was something in the depths of Shoal Cave. The scientific community of Hoenn had been abuzz about it for weeks now. Which, of course, had tipped off the Rockets, as well. Slipping through the icy cavern to find some ancient artifact or priceless gemstone could prove lucrative for both himself and Team Rocket as a whole. Or, it could be something totally worthless and this whole trip could be a complete bust. Cap grumbled against the cold as he stepped off of the ferry and onto (more or less) solid ground. He really needed to stop wasting money on these ferries. Maybe get himself a Flying- or Water-type. Ra peeked out from his place in Cap's coat, realized they were in Shoal Cave again, and let out a tiny hiss.[break][break]

"Yeah, yeah," Cap muttered, turning back to wait for the one other ferry passenger that he'd shared a ride with. "Hope you don't mind the cold," he said through chattering teeth. "Cause I'm pretty sure whatever we're looking for is even further down."

“Not…particularly,” she replied in her usual slow, seemingly half-distracted tone as she walked towards the bow of the ship to get a better view. She, too, should probably get a ride Pokemon. The only swimmer she had was her Mareanie, which was huddling in its little bunker by the railing for now, as if hibernating until something interesting happened. Shizue probably could have just left it in its ball, but had decided not to for now. Maybe later, if it continued to be rather passive.

However, they would soon be able to leave the ship, so there was a good chance that it would get a boost of activity just from that. As for herself? She was mildly excited, though her stoic face seldom showed such things. Still, Shizu was part of that scientific community, even in Rocket. She couldn’t help but be looking forward to what was going to happen. The man that had come with her was mentally filed as ‘muscle’ for the operation until he proved otherwise. A little harsh, maybe, but given her background, she filed most people as such.
“Things worthy of true attention…..are always far beneath the surface…” she hence added, casually continuing the conversation though she did not look at him much.

"Well, that makes one of us." Though most of Johto boasted actual seasons, winter had always been his least favorite. He'd hoped that moving to a somewhat-tropical area would have afforded him mild winters, but here he was, bundled up and watching the vapors of his breath trail up in front of him. He could be on a beach. With a mai-tai. He sighed.[break][break]

Cap started down the slightly-less-rocky area that pretended to be a path. The sooner they found whatever weird object was in here, the sooner they could get out, get paid, and then have mai-tais. He glanced back at his companion. Well, maybe just Cap would have the mai-tai. She didn't seem much like a fruity drink person.[break][break]

He gave a murmur of agreement when she spoke again. He'd found that to be true, as well, though often the things worth attention sparkled at the surface. They just needed a little digging, a little finesse.[break][break]

"I'm Caprice, by the way. Most folks call me Cap." He wasn't unused to people giving him aliases when they did jobs like this, but he needed something to call her when some spooky shit inevitably burst from the wall and tried to eat one or both of them.

“Caprice. Understood.” It was not quite evident whether or not Shizue was attempting some sort of pun there, or if she was being sincere with her wording. Those sorts of things did tend to be somewhat fluid with the woman after all. Especially since she did not give any indicator whatsoever to either end. However, what one could tell was that she preferred to use his full name, mostly because ‘Cap’ was already the abbreviation for captain in her dictionary. She would not let these things become confusing in casual conversation.

However, she also had to introduce herself. “Shizue. And that is Mareanie.” Naturally, she nodded towards the little curled up ball near her, which incidentally was starting to rouse now – particularly because the boat was slowing down on the final approach now. “It appears that we arrived……we best get ready to disembark.” Though admittedly there was not much to get ready here. At the end of the day, they mostly brought themselves and the Pokemon. Not a lot of luggage or equipment to move onto the ferry or anything like that.

"Shizue, huh. Good to meet you." Cap screwed up his face a bit. He hadn't even considered introducing his Pikachu. He patted the pile of Pokemon beneath his jacket and said "This is Ra. Useless lump." The boat slowed and bumped up against the shore of the interior of Shoal Cave. Cap climbed out, glad to have his feet on solid ground again. Once he and Shizue were (more or less) safely on dry land, Cap started down the slightly-less-rocky area that pretended to be a path. The chill was biting, more and more so as they traversed.

Useless lump? Weird, usually other people were more emotional about their Pokemon and everything. Not a whole lot of people considered mostly their ability and usefulness first. Shizue often did, only catching Pokemon because she could envision some specific niche use for them and the like.

Odd for someone else to start that way. She shrugged, then followed him on the isle again. It was a tad bit slippery, so she needed a few steps to properly catch herself, but she was settled as well before too long. “You know the way? I could not find a map of this place ahead of time.” And she certainly had tried. Yet, she hadn’t gotten anything current and accurate. Apparently, the tides often did a number on these caves so accurate data was hard to come by.

In the meantime, Mareanie followed the two of them while she naturally took position behind the man. Shizu had no problems whatsoever letting someone else lead. Meant there was a meatshield between her and potential danger.

Cap scoffed at the suggestion that he might have any clue where he was going. "Hell no, he said, picking his way around an icy boulder that, for a moment, he was very sure was a Pokemon. "I didn't get a map or anything, either. But, whatever we're looking for is some important thing, right? Important shit is always down. Depths of a cave, bottom of some vast ruins, whatever. I figure as long as we're going down we're going in the right direction." Genius plan. Absolutely foolproof.[break][break]

He swerved around another boulder, barely giving this one a second look. A mistake. That one was a Pokemon. Just as Cap passed, the Glalie rotated and groaned, yawning. There was a moment of peace before it realized there were trespassers in its cave—just enough time for Cap to whirl on his heel with a yelp. In that same motion (and strangely practiced) he swiped Ra from beneath his coat and physically threw the Pikachu at the threat. Glalie met Ra with a bone-jarring Headbutt, leaving the already-bewildered Pikachu all the more stunned.

Ah. So, he was an idiot, then. Shizue understood. While she had in jest agreed to the down equalling good part before, she had expected a bit more professionalism overall. However, it turned out that he truly was clueless as to what to do next. That was, in a way, fine. His prerogative and if it made him happy, whatever. As long as she knew what she was at, she could adjust. In this case, that meant she would have to be the more attentive one and make sure that they did not get lost.

Bothersome, but doable. She would simply focus on that task for the time being. With Mareanie following her, she allowed the young man to take the lead and, incidentally, he did manage to all but trip over a dangerous Pokemon already. Only to then throw his own Pokemon at that one. Quite literally.
She sighed. “Venoshock that one” was the simple order given to her Pokemon, which flung poison at the assailant. It was about all she was going to do in order to assist in battle though, as she was already distracted, investigating the path ahead. They would sort this out without her, she figured. She’d helped. Maybe she was an idiot too, at least in some ways.

Ra shook himself off and squared up to the Glalie as Cap did his best to scramble out of the way. Luckily for them, the Mareanie's Venoshock was enough to surprise the Pokemon that it recoiled and was forced to reevaluate the situation. As it did, it flinched, body seizing up in paralysis from Ra's Static. The Pikachu bared his little fangs and snarled, cheeks crackling. A well-placed Thunderbolt sent the Glalie spinning and snarling. Cap regained his footing, scooped up Ra, and bolted down the path after Shizue.[break][break]

The disinterest of his partner in crime certainly hadn't escaped his attention, even when staring down a grumpy Glalie. He clicked his tongue as he caught up to her, stuffing a less-than-happy Pikachu back into his jacket. Cap opened his mouth to release the snark that sat just at the back of his throat when he spied an offshoot to the path. The offshoot went down. Grinning, he darted down the side path as quietly as he could muster. If he had it his way, he was gonna find that damn relic on his own and rub it in Shizue's face the whole ferry ride back.
