She didn't partake in the halfway empty bottle of tequila by her side, ignoring it in favor of searching the dark horizon. Stained fabric slowly unravelled onto the sand to allow moonlight to kiss injured knuckles. Purple spread into the back of her hand in ugly, painful-looking shapes that a calloused fingertip traced, distracted.

A shaky breath left her lips as she leaned forward, hand extended towards the breaking waves. There was little resistance as the ocean swelled, curling over the shallows to touch the tip of her boots. It'd become easier, lately, to call on her newfound powers. It had nothing to do with an attempt to control and more with - giving in. In a way.

Taking the brine into her lungs with a long inhale, Skyler finally dipped her hands into the water. Cuts and bruises faded under her hypnotized scrutiny, leaving only old scars in their wake.

The captain's distraction, however, allowed for a small pokemon to waddle closer, a feathery head peeking around Skyler's back before jumping into her lap with a bold 'quack'.

"F- what the hell."

But the duck pokemon seemed utterly at ease as he fluffed his feathers and made himself comfortable. Not even a minute later, soft snores reached Skyler's disbelieving ears.

It reminded her of a vision not too long ago, during the Soiree, where she'd seen an older version of herself teaching Lil Ducklett how to swim. Her and angelo vestri 's child in some alternate reality.

A finger smoothed down the feathers on the Duckett's head, gently so as to not wake him up - and in direct contrast with the remnants of violence that had decorated her knuckles not a minute ago.

Maybe it was time to go home.
