Finger tracing the rim of her Whiskey Sour, Penelope's curious eyes surveyed her surroundings for what felt like the 20th time in the last 10 minutes. A tip had gotten in that has been some illegal activities running rampant, and well, she was curious enough to snuff it out. Especially since another date of hers had to last second cancel on her.

"Friend emergency my ass..." She muttered, frowning. Typically, this sort of 'adventure' would've been enough to life her spirits, but it held the opposite effect today. The georgous women and drunken men only served to add to her rising frustration-- why were they so happy about...

"Okay, fuck this." Gulping down the last of her drink, Penelope patted down her tightly worn black romper before taking off towards the exit. Only, the the level frustration coupled with her general lack of awareness had led this barreling woman right into the chest of another.

"Oh shit, my bad. You okay?"

Was it on him? Not really, but if he was willing to take the blame, then so be it. No sweat off her back.

From apologetic to frustration-- his question relit the pent-up emotions like a switch. "My date flaked," She groaned, rolling her eyes with some flare of bitterness. "Men can really suck ass sometimes, you know? No offense."

With their orders in, Penelope lifted herself onto one of the felted red chairs. Her gaze then drifted towards her companion. "So, Mr. Mysterious, what's your plans for the night? Trying to win it big?"

His response evoked a half-smile out of the woman.

Propping up her right elbow onto the bartop, she rested her head on her knuckle and slightly leaned forward. Just enough to show interest, but not enough to create unwanted implications.

"If that's the case, you can call me Penny."

A pair of matching drinks soon materialized in their hands, and of course, Penelope was the first to steal a long, delicious sip.

"You have good taste," She commented, her smile growing into a soft grin. "So, Mr. Cian, have any preferences for tonight? Blackjack? Poker? Slots, maybe? I heard the one with a Pikachu wearing a coconut bra is unbeatable."

She followed his lead, leaning in with immediate interest to his proposal. Eyebrow arched, she chuckled and matched his lifted drink with her own. "Ohohoho, you're most definitely on."

Drink still in hand, she casually slid off from her seat and began to make her way through the clouds of smoke and chatter, eyes hell-bent on finding the most interesting table to join. Eventually, one found itself caught in her interest.

Snuggled near the edge of the play area, a table occupied by three devilish men stood, waiting for their arrival. Two of the men were the gruffer sort -- the kind of company you'd avoid when our with a woman -- while the last had a more wealthy appearance to him. But, regardless, Penelope gave them all the same acknowledging nod before taking her place beside them.

"I hope luck is on your side," She teased, whispering, "Because I'll rather not have my new date go down after three losses."

penelope might not mind cian going down after three losses. but who's to say for certain?

cian slips into the seat next to her with a newly acquired bottle of tequila in hand. he had yoinked it from behind the bar on their way over. no shot glasses, though, but he has a feeling they'll make do.

"good luck, penelope."

and with that, their first hand is distributed.

She only smiled in response.

The cards were dealt with each of them with a swiftness that only spoke of the dealer's experience.

Her first two cards? A ten and a four. Shit luck, no doubt. When the dealer turned to her, she hesitated for a second, but eventually relented and gave a slow tap.

and when they all reveal, he scores a nineteen total, beating everyone else.

he leans his shoulder into hers before chuckling.
