Dominic the Thwackey stands at the edge of the enclosure as the gate shuts behind him, watching his trainer give a jaunty wave and a "Back soon, little brah!" before disappearing down the path.

Well, this is weird. Dominic has never been left apart from Beau like this before, so he doesn't really know what to do with himself. He lifts one of his branches and thwacks it experimentally on the edge of the fence, but much to his disappointment, the fence does not budge. Drooping, he turns around and walks further into the enclosure, overlooking the various pokemon milling around the pen but unwilling to actually approach and engage with any of them.

The back of the pen does butt up against the Daycare building proper, but he can't see anything of interest in there, and besides the large man in the apron would probably have something to say about him smuggling himself into the building where no pokemon, by the look of it, were actually occupied.

Dominic instead busies himself digging the edge of one of his branches into the loose dirt at his feet, slowly picking out the shape of a line and focusing intently on creating some kind of shape or other underfoot, though what it is intended to be is anyone's guess.

A sympathetic glance spared for her yet-new Deerling, Georgette kneels before the fawn and murmurs encouragingly, "It is only for the afternoon. Then we will return home, yes? You need to meet other pokemon!" Lifting her hands to lightly cup the Deerling's cheeks, she then scratches behind his ears before standing.

The pair enter the Daycare and Georgette checks in her pokemon, the little Deerling led out to the back enclosure. Pawing nervously at the ground, Paschal's tail lifts abruptly as he spies the Thwackey, his spindly legs turning rigid despite their subtle shakes. He deeply contemplates bounding past the picket fence after his trainer, only just managing to stand his ground as he realises the nearby grass pokemon seems utterly consumed in some sort of project.

Paschal finally gathers his courage and trots stiff-legged over Dominic to greet the busy pokemon.

Dominic is jostled from the intense focus on the rough collection of lines and shapes he is etching into the soft earth of the pen by the approaching Deerling. He surveys the other pokemon, looking Paschal up and down, before offering a solemn and decisive "Thwack*."

Motioning the Deerling over to the marks he's been making in the dirt, Dominic indicates a long horizontal line at the bottom of the assembly, then thumps his stick on the ground underneath them. He points to the large shape that approximates a crooked square, then points to the Daycare building proper. "Thwack wack**."

A small, round shape next to the square is indicated next, followed by the simian pokemon pointing to a low-slung barrel at the edge of the Daycare building's facade. He digs his stick into the dirt once more, tracing a bouncing path from the circle, to the top of the square, then draws a series of lines erupting in a starburst from atop the structure.

The Deerling's broad ears swivel forwards at the rather rough greeting. Slowly, cautiously, the fawn steps forwards to peer down at the marks in the dirt as indicated, a sharp tilt of his head sending a heady floral fragrance wafting upon the breeze with the movement.

Looking slowly to the indicated 'fortress', back to the lines, and then the next shape upon the ground, Paschal appears thoughtful at the plan which Dominic has painstakingly assembled. With a flick of an ear, the Deerling shakes himself and then promptly bounds over to the nearby fencing.

He spares the Thwackey a poignant look and, after gathering himself, hops over the fence with a single graceful leap - immediately springing back over the fence. Paschal bounds back to Dominic's side and gives seems to smile broadly, his tail wagging impishly as he prances in place and then stills.

Paschal nods towards his back encouragingly - a steed for his chosen general.

While Paschal examines the high-quality blueprints scuffed haphazardly on the floor of the pen, Dominic crosses his arms in satisfaction, giving a slow, wise nod. The Deerling's sudden movement, however, takes him slightly aback. The fawn has some initiative, eh? Alright, he can work with this.

Tottering over behind the wayward fawn, Dominic pauses and observes quietly as Paschal approaches the fence, canting his head at the long, telling look the deer shoots him before he witnesses the utterly surprising feat of cervine agility before him, his companion bounding over the fence as easily as though it were merely a stick fallen in the path before him.

When the primate collects himself and reclaims his dropped jaw, he lets out an excited whoop, banging his stick on the ground enthusiastically. At the unmistakable invitation, he claps his hands together, tottering over to clamber on to Paschal's back in one smooth motion, settling himself astride the Deerling and pointing his stick toward the Daycare.

His tail awag after Dominic settles onto his back, Paschal dances in place for a moment, the grass beneath his hooves flattening from the movement. The little fawn gives a nod of determination as the stick is pointed towards their objective and they take off together, the Deerling surprisingly graceful despite his rider; a few bounding leaps forwards and they stand beside the Daycare's back door.

A thoughtful look overcomes Paschal's cervid features, and after a moment's indecision, scrabbles over towards the nearby fence instead of kicking at the door as he had initially planned. This could work, he was sure. They would jump over the fence and then go find his trainer - new as she was to him - and then he would get to go back to Mossdeep and settle comfortably into the myriad stalls filled with warm, comfortable hay.

Paschal gathers himself and leaps over the fence with barely a blink. Wagging his tail furiously in delight, the Deerling looks first one way, and then the other, his expression thoughtful as he tries to remember which way Georgette went. He was fairly sure it was this way...

Dominic bounces and jostles a bit from his perch atop the Deerling's back as Paschal sets to a leaping cadence, though he quickly adjusts and compensates for the unfamiliar motion, managing to remain upright with only a token grunt. The Thwackey regards the nearby barrel expectantly, but utters an indignant whine as Paschal changes directions entirely, leaping over the fence in an acrobatic display that has Dominic leaning forward to avoid being unseated.

"Thwack wack!" he exclaims in protest, pointing his stick animatedly at the Daycare building. This was not according to plan! Their trainers would never be able to see them from far away on this dingy little path!

Still, Dominic had to admit that there was some logic to this plan, but his companion was facing entirely the wrong way. Clearly the correct move would be to find Beau first, then Beau, fast and strong as he was, would surely be able to find Dominic's trainer faster than even if they set out for her now. The Thwackey believes this to be a sound course of action, and advises Paschal of such. "Wack wack, Thwack!"

Paschal swings his head around, looking over his shoulder and up to Dominic as the little grass monkey protests the change in plans. Ears pinning back, the Deerling plants his hooves and peers harshly at the Thwackey. Didn't he know Georgette had gone this way? She wasn't in the Daycare any more, Paschal had seen her leave! He nonetheless swings his head to look over to the barrel that was part of their original plan. True, on top of the Daycare would grant them a vantage point but they already knew which way to go.

The Deerling begins to step in the direction of the barrel before shaking his head and immediately changing his mind. They wouldn't even be outside of the fence without him! Gathering up his courage he plants his hooves more firmly and gives a mighty shake, sending the unsuspecting Thwackey aloft.

Prancing in place for a moment, his head held high, with one final stamp of his hoof a brilliant light surrounds Paschal; in place of the Deerling is now a wintry Sawsbuck, his horns of spindly birchwood ending in delicate-looking twigs.

With a thoughtful snort, Paschal lowers his head in an attempt to drive Dominic towards the appropriate trail. What if they lost Georgette!

Dominic goes flying as Paschal digs his stance into the ground, the Thwackey sailing over the Deerling's head to go tumbling into the dirt, his stick becoming separated from him in the melee and disappearing somewhere off the side of the path. He squawks in indignation, patting the ground and looking around frantically for his stick, to no avail, then glares at the Deerling, fuming.

When the telltale light of evolution envelops Paschal and he emerges a rime-touched Sawsbuck, the Thwackey barely notices, such are the heights of his irritation. That bullheaded deer! Didn't he know finding Beau first would be faster for the both of them? He throws his head back and screeches, eclipsed in a brief halo of light before he emerges as a Rillaboom, stomping at the ground and pounding his chest in challenge.

"Whoa, brah, whoa!" Beau pants, skidding to a halt where he's been running up the path since he saw the Thwackey go airborne. "Easy, man, what's all the fuss?" Beau looks the now-Rillaboom up and down appraisingly, eyebrows lifting in surprise. "Dude, nice gains!"

Almost comically, Dominic immediately lopes around behind Beau, offering a chastised grunt as he glowers at Paschal from over the top of Beau's head. Even if the original plan hadn't gone as smoothly as he'd intended, he had, at least, gotten the desired outcome in the end.
