caden's text, like many others over the past few months, goes ignored. however this time it's only because cian arrives at the boardwalk, so there's no point in shooting a text back when he can just yell out:

"i did not bring an umbrella!"

which is a mistake because it's hot today.

with a pair of shades on to block the harsh sunlight, cian walks up to his twin, raising his fist in greeting.

"you finally got some time off, huh?"

[attr="class","caden"] ugh. caden's always so eager, so the loud shout doesn't surprise him. it is mildly annoying, however.

[break][break] "guess we're getting a tan today." which is unfortunate, because caden very much had not planned on getting a tan. at least caden brought along some towels, which he had tucked under his arm. he figures that CIAN MAHER had probably forgotten them too.

[break][break] still, the sight of his twin is well-appreciated. he enjoys the company they spend together, even if sometimes he doesn't always it. he greets the other's fist with his own, bumping them together in kin. "yeah. eileen's been horrible with the schedule this week." eileen being the clinic manager who arranged the resident schedules. she was cute, but unfortunately caden didn't mix work with pleasure.

[break][break] most of the time, anyways.

[break][break] "let's go."

[break][break] he leads the way down the beach, tucking his sandals into a tote bag. the sand is warm beneath his feet before they find a free spot just a little bit aways from everyone else, and caden sets to setting the two towels down by them.

cian snorts, clearly teasing even if he knows it likely isn't true. his brother's a professional (most of the time). unlike cian, who will gladly sleep with his coworkers if he had some.

well, technically he does, so what's stopping him?

"yeah. i basically had to fight him to get time off today. bitch."

taking up their spot on the beach, cian shrugs off his shirt, revealing small bruises across his body. likely from training, but the ones further up his collarbone and neck might be from elsewhere.

"i'm getting more free time now, though, as the gym's slowed down a bit. not that i've told him or anyone."

[break][break] normally, caden's the first to fight his brother and side with him. but ever since they've found out about about the sister they never knew they had, and that his father hadn't elected to share that information with him... well, you could say he was a little butthurt. not that he would ever admit it outloud.

[break][break] surprise dots his expression as he witnisses his brother's bruised body. he arches a brow. "that from dad?" a pause. "or someone you're dating?" they don't talk about it much, but it comes up occasionally.

cian's thought about it before. with his already impressive following from his running and later battling career, it'd be relatively easy money. but with it comes certain complications that he just isn't prepared for.

smearing sunscreen across his brother's shoulders and back, cian squints, peering out at the horizon.

"i keep telling you, caden, you gotta stop doing so many late nights in the hospital. you're gonna go blind."

despite lecturing his brother, cian actually sees it, too.
