Returning home granted Georgette a few days of peace - a few days of rest and recouperation - before a melancholy weight settled in her chest. She did her best to ignore it, the sight of the ICEROOT CARROT on her kitchen's table a grim reminder of her recent trials, though despite her best efforts the chill in the wind drew her mind repeatedly to that poor Glastrier's last moments.

On the third day her resolve snapped.

Grabbing up the carrot and stuffing it into her pockets, Georgette allows herself to be drawn into the depths of the Shoal Cave, guided by some innate instinct she couldn't begin to explain. Her gaze low as she passed beneath icy stalactite, their faceted surfaces refracting with watery turquoise and mossy greens, the tunnel eventually lead to a cold-soaked beach; icy sand caressed by frigid waves, the weak light above casts a hazy glow as it strikes patches of ice and snow.

Georgette sits, her heels digging into the freezing sand as her elbows come to rest on her knees. Her silence filling the air, the young woman listens to the ice-gripped lapping of waves, the occasional breeze stirring her now-silvery hair to deposit salt and frost atop the shorn locks. Pulling the carrot from her pocket, Georgette absently turns it this way and that, watching as the weak light catches its depths to refract darkly glinting colours - colours close enough to remind her of frozen blood burning her hands raw.

TAMING THE HORSE

UPON RETURNING TO SHOAL CAVE, the same unnerving feeling of being watched returns. in this frigid underground, your hard footsteps clack against ice and echo across valleys of frozen blue. however, you instinctively hush yourself. a horse-like pokemon neighs in the distance. a mask of ice surround pupilless eyes. from its hooves, intense cold air wafts.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

however, the horse seems to notice you. it advances closer. the clopping of hooves echo too, orchestrating an endless percussion of icy beats. suddenly, the earth freezes even more so. an additional layer of ice grows outward and higher with immense speed. before you can blink, an icy ramp forms right before you— and the horse slides across the ice in a flash to greet you from their elevated stations.

There was something unshakeable about the little beach, an uncanny certainty of being watched by familiar eyes that drew Georgette once more to its icy shoreline, her hands stuffed in her pockets and head bowed against the relentless breeze. As she steps into the weak sunlight, her eyes watering from the cold, the shrill scream of a horse gives her pause. A Glastrier emerges from the depths of the cavernous tunnels, its appearance drawing Georgette's eyebrows up high while she stares at the familiar creature.

Her throat tight, one hand withdrawing from her clothing's pocket to pet the Glastrier, Georgette's hand jerks back and curls against her chest before she can touch the pokemon.

"I remember someone like you," she whispers mournfully. Speaking lowly, her eyes turning glassier when the Glastrier puffs out a blast of frozen air from its nostrils, Georgette pulls out the ICEROOT CARROT burning in her pocket to offer to the pokemon. "Would they remember me?" She wasn't sure what she meant, only that the words felt important.

Its ears perking, the Glastrier stamps one broad hoof, the sound of cracking ice filling the cavern as the vegetable is snatched in turn. With a shake of its head and flash of light, the icy horse is gone, leaving Georgette wide-eyed and alone in the frozen catacombs of Shoal Cave.

The return to the twisting corridors of Shoal Cave were becoming almost commonplace for Georgette, her hands once more shoved in her pockets and head bent against the oppressive chill. Making her way to the sheltered beach, the sound of icy water lapping against the frozen sand, she stands there for a time, lulled by the snapping of ice and whisper of waves. A particularly sharp crack draws her attention, the sight of the Glastrier emerging from the turquoise gloom, a wraith crowned in delicate skeins of frozen air. Ears flicking back and forth, the Glastrier huffs out a sharp snort.

Her lips drawing into a little frown, blue-green eyes cast appraisingly over the mare, the cut of her ribs and dull shine of her icy trappings evident at a moment's glance. The mare was hungry and tired, the sight causing a wash of grief to cascade through Georgette. A tamato berry is pulled from her bag and offered - she could always purchase another.

"You have seen better days, no?" She asks, her voice hushed and soft. The Glastrier steps forwards, attentive to the offered berry with a singular purpose. Palm flat as the berry is snatched, Georgette quirks a weak half-smile as she assures the horse, "So have I."

Georgette falls silent while the mare observes her, ears perked with interest that seems to abruptly wane. With a stamp of her massive hoof and toss of her head, the Glastrier swiftly trots back into the dismal reaches of the Shoal Cave.

Shoal Cave was as cold as ever, the changing season outside but a distant memory to the bitter wind singing through its labyrinthine tunnels. There Georgette found herself, a scarf wrapped securely around her neck and hands stuffed in her coat's pockets as she trudged to the hidden beach.

The sound of ice sheering against ice, sharp creaking and cracking, stops the woman in her tracks. For a moment concerned that a section of the cavern may collapse, it is not until Georgette spies the ethereal figure of the Glastrier that she relaxes her guard. The reason for the extra noise accompanying the mare is soon revealed, the glossy ice coating her hooves thicker than ever.

With a soft hum, Georgette watches the Glastrier pace around the cavern. A little frown soon touches her expression as the mare trips, the overgrown ice doing her movements no favours.

A span of silence engulfing the area when the Glastrier comes to a standstill, Georgette murmurs softly, "I can help you." The mare's ears flicking forwards, she lifts her hands to display her palms before slowly pulling out a pokeball from her satchel. Voice gentle, she assures, "I will help."

A Pupitar is released from the pokeball's confines. Her attention swinging pointedly onto the Pupitar, the Glastrier snorts a warning to which Georgette's palms are once more shown. "She is only going to help," she assures the mare, who appears suspicious.

Waiting a moment more, Georgette murmurs lowly to her Pupitar, "Mathilda, Chip Away some of the ice there." The thick coating upon Glastrier's hooves are motioned to, and with a determined wiggle, the Pupitar carefully sculpts hoof after hoof. Once gone, the mare steps away and gives a testing stop of her hooves, a snort and a scream then released before she charges away with much more fluid movements.

Meanwhile, Georgette exhales the breath of air she seems to have been holding, her blue-green gaze softening at the sight of the retreating mare. She was uncertain how long the pokemon would entertain her presence, though nonetheless found the ritual a balm upon her bruised and battered emotions.

At least some good was coming from her harrowing ordeal, right?

THE NEXT DAY, you see the horse— but it seems different in appearance from afar. getting close, you see that the glastrier has become quite dirty. perhaps, it's all that flashing back and forth in the cave that has caused its beautiful equine form to be marred by mud.

when the glastrier sees you again, they seem hesitant. without the iceroot carrots— you do not possess the same gravity you once did; however, the horse approaches still, sensing your benevolent motives. the glastrier must be cleaned. perhaps, there is a pokemon that is an expert at tidying things (and pokemon) up...

Her return to Shoal Cavern is almost routine now; the desire to see the Glastrier, to receive some semblance of absolution, is an omnipresent thought. Walking purposefully through the entrance, she slips easily through the winding tunnels, the temperature steadily decreasing with every step. Her breath freezing on the air in cottony puffs, it's not long until she stands in glinting sunlight once more, the illumination made weak by depths of the ice.

There, near the water, pacing up and down the beach is the Glastrier. Her beautiful pelt marred with mud and stained with wide smears of unruly ice, Georgette watches the mare breathlessly when the beast pauses to look at her. Eyes wide, and heart heavy, she whispers a soft, "Bonjour," to the Glastrier, and with a flick of her ears the mare slowly approaches. Georgette lifts her hands tentatively, nary moving a muscle once her arms are extended to allow the Glastrier to snuff at her hands. There is a bare moment where she fears the mare will bolt, or snap at her hands, but it melts away in an instant when instead the Glastrier lightly touches her frozen muzzle to her palm.

"I am going to help," she whispers, her voice barely audible. With slow movements after she gently pats the Glastrier's nose, she releases a Cinccino and Wishiwashi to aid her in her work. Once certain the Glastrier will not bolt, she directs her Wishiwashi to use SOAK to wash away the mud while the Cinccino buffs away the rough patches of ice; Georgette too works with her hands, scrapping them raw as she smooths rough ice beneath her palms.

It is slow, thorough work.

Nearing the mare's neck gives Georgette pause, her heart seizing as she takes note of a thin scar across the mare's throat. Ceasing to move, or indeed breathe, the small woman stares wide-eyed at the Glastrier. "I'm sorry," she chokes out around the lump in her throat. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." The words spill like a mantra from her lips, tears gathering at her eyes as the Glastrier swings her head around to stare impassively at Georgette. With a sudden stamp of her hoof, the mare lowers her head, knocking the side of her face against softly Georgette's before trotting off.

THE NEXT DAY, you see the horse. they do not seem hesitant at all this time. instead, the horse appears to be waiting for you closer to the entrance this time, as if the glastrier was in tune with your rhythms. your schedule. in its mouth, a narrow strap of ice dangles and emanates chilly air.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♡

should you take the reins, they are immensely cold to the touch. one wonders if frostbite would crawl up their palms— for the chill is painful against human skin. even worse, it penetrates past any fabric. the glastrier beckons you to mount its back, pristine and well-groomed thanks to both of your effort. with a snort, the horse brings you two to a different shoal chamber. here, a vast field filled with fences of ice, bridges and more appears before you: an equine agility course.

the glastrier raises their front legs and neigh. cold air rushes from its hooves. quickly, the horse dashes into the course, and you must hang on for dear life, even if the icy reins cut into your trembling hands.

TAME THE HORSE

Georgette torments herself one final time. She will to visit the Glastrier and say her goodbyes, determined to whisper contrition for sins committed in what felt like another life - what was really only little more than a week ago. It is to a decided shock, then, when she has barely set foot inside the Shoal Cavern that movements draws her attention and from the gloomy, ice-riddled depths of the tunnels emerges the mare.

Ears perked, hale and hearty, the Glastrier boldly moves to stand before Georgette. The small woman stares in wonder at the glacial mare as a broad head lowers - her blue-green eyes snag on the reins which have never before made an appearance. Mouth opening, her words catching in her throat, Georgette slowly, hesitantly lifts her hand. the Glastrier swings her head around, knocking one of the frozen strips of leather against the woman's palm.

Georgette wordlessly closes her hand around the rein, her teeth gritting against the biting cold and ice crystals which now cut into her palm. Not loosening her hold on the rein, Georgette struggles but nonetheless manages to heave herself onto the Glastrier's back - no sooner has she found her seat than the mare is off, careening through the tunnels.

Eyes streaming tears from the cold, or perhaps something else entirely, Georgette shifts her weight forwards and the Glastrier picks up speed; the world blurs, narrowing until she can focus only on the rush of blood singing in her ears and the solid bunching of muscle and mass beneath her, horse and rider moving as one.

Blood flows freely down the reins from Georgette's grip to freeze in thin rivulets against the leather and the Glastrier's shoulders.

Yes, this is a penance she should pay in blood.

It is cold. So, so cold.

Wind whips through Georgette's hair, freezing the strands with rime that glints like fresh snow upon her silvery hair. Her hands tighten upon the reins, cutting fresh wounds in her palms. Beast and woman alike are sprayed in hot flecks of blood, falling like cinders only to instantly die upon the cold, crystallising into ice upon everything the blood anoints.

The ride is wild, one punctuated by flying hooves, frothing spittle from the mare, and an increasing pace. Dangerous; delirious; Georgette and the Glastrier move as one, the pace increasingly frenetic until the small woman's lungs burn like fire from the brutal temperature.

Together they bank sharply to the right, careening down the passageway while dodging jumbles of ice and forging through narrowing passages of snow. The cold rips into Georgette's fragile skin, aided by the below-freezing temperatures roiling off the Glastrier. Foot after foot, length after length, the weight of guilt slowly releases its claws from Georgette's heart.

She has never felt so alive, so wholly bitten and torn she could be mistaken for a corpse, as she has at this moment.

There is no sign of the end and Georgette's heart sings with absolution.

The colours blur around her as the Glastrier continue the frenzied charge, ice-encased hooves pounding brutally upon the ground; ice flies, biting into Georgette's thighs. The pain is grounding, pulls Georgette's feverish thoughts into focus. There is nothing between then an now, only an expanse of growing understanding and a deliriously light heart which now flutters in the woman's chest.

Head throwing back, the Glastrier screams, cutting Georgette to the very quick. She lifts her own voice in chorus, throat raw.

TAMING THE HORSE

THE CAVE ECHOES WITH THE CLOPPING OF HOOVES. the horse continues its jaunt around the course. you have not fallen off your horse, nor have you succumbed to the pain of holding their reins. however, the strap ceases to gnaw at your skin with biting cold. even the equine pokemon's body becomes more comfortable to ride. there is no more pain now. just unity.

the glastrier finally halts their romp. its whinny declares their approval. finally, after nearly a week of animal handling, the glacial horse is now yours.

CONGRATULATIONS!

YOU TAMED THE HORSE!

THE GLASTRIER is now able to be caught with your pokeball. you may decide their moveset like a gachapon pokemon (e.g. 6 learnset moves) and add the glastrier to your PC.
