Ronnie had been pacing outside the doors of the HNN building for what felt like hours, but in truth was probably only fifteen minutes or so. The whole plan had been so obvious - just turn up! Obvious and simple. Of all her family, she'd always gotten on the best with Percy, but that wasn't saying much considering he was studying for most of her formative years, and the rest of the time was too busy being daddy's perfect little son who could do no wrong.[break][break]

Here she was, then, pacing and weighing up the pros and cons that she probably really should have thought about before turning up. He was the reason she was in Hoenn at all, after all - getting away was the easy part, but settling down was hard. Sinnoh, Alola, Kanto, even? She ached for newness, but it was too new - Hoenn had Percy, and Percy, for all her issues with him, represented a little safety.[break][break]

Pro: Turning up at work might make him feel less cornered than her arriving at his house.[break][break]

Con: Disrupting his busy work day would probably make him hella mad.[break][break]

Pro: Percy can't be too mad at her, since all his colleagues would be watching.[break][break]

Con: He might call security on her?[break][break]

Ugh. Arceus, Ho-Oh, whoever the fuck else people prayed to. Why did talking to family members suck so damn much? She sucks it up, pulls her pigtails tighter and then loosens them again, a gentle little wordless mantra to keep her from freaking out; then steps into the building.[break][break]

Someone behind the main desk asks her what she's here for with an eyebrow quirked so hard that Ronnie could practically smell the condescending. She asks for Percival Munn, and when for a name she shrugs and says "Lauren", internally cringing at the immediate lie - why did she say that? What, was she keeping it a secret that she was turning up on his doorstep out of the blue? He was gonna find out soon enough, anyway.[break][break]

Not off the top of his head, at least. Perhaps there’s some acquaintance he had met once, maybe someone he has not seen in years, but most definitely not anyone who would come to his place of work and ask to see him while giving only their first name in return. With that in mind, he responds accordingly.

”Lauren? And you’re sure she asked to see me?” Dark brows furrow while trying to make sense out of all of this. A gesture that only deepens when told that yes, she had indeed insisted on being here to see him, and that she also seemed like barely more than a kid – maybe even a teenager.

At this point, Percy’s mind spins with thoughts of how harshly his coworker must be judging him over this, and of the terrible assumptions all those who overhear must be making. Logic dictates that in actuality they’re probably too busy with their work to give a damn about his problems, but alas, social anxiety seldom functions logically.

He has to take a deep breath, checking his calendar only to ensure what he’s already certain of: there’s no meeting scheduled for this time of the day. Then, and only then, does he step away from his desk, heading down towards the front desk where this supposed acquaintance of his awaits.

Maybe this is some sort of mistake. Maybe she gave the name of the wrong person, got confused, or something along those lines. Maybe it was the receptionist that heard the wrong name. Maybe this is a strange joke at his expense; a prank, a cruel trick. Maybe it’s–…

”...Ronnie?” The possibility hadn’t crossed his mind until seeing his sister, and yet here she is: far from Johto, in Hoenn, waiting for him by the front desk of the HNN building. Why is she here? Why hadn’t she told him she’d come? Why didn’t she give her actual name?

Percy, for once, looks surprised, and that surprise quickly gives way to an equal mixture of happiness and concern. There’s a slight smile, even. He has missed her.

Lauren. Why had she said that? So, so stupid. What if Percy just assumed it was someone playing a joke, trying to make a fool of him, get him to look stupid in front of his workmates? Ugh. Part of her wants to bundle her sweater around her head and squeeze hard until the pressure makes the headache fade. She can't exactly set something on fire here, in good society, in somewhere big like this.[break][break]

The anxiety hurts, physically. Percy could be about to turn that corner, arrives right in front of her, as perfectly perfect as he always was. It makes her think of home. Mum. Alfie. Dad. All those people who looked at Percy and saw perfection, looked at her and saw failure. What if Percy says the same? A lecture about going home, she's too young, how stupid of her to move out, what was she thinking? She shakes her head, taps her foot, picks at her nail polish.[break][break]

Percy turns the corner.[break][break]

He smiles. It's faint, but when isn't it, on Percy's face? Maybe, whether she notices it or not, she smiles back.[break][break]

"Barely knew I was coming myself" She shrugs it off, defending against the potential of anything sweet or sentimental. "...Look at you, all fancy. Mr HNN." She raises a brow, twinned with a smirk, but it's a more genuine than it seems. If anybody could read it, it would be Percy.[break][break]
