The rustling of leaves with the touch of gentle breeze. The soft grass upon which herds of Deerling roam, their coats changing with the seasons. The distant sight of Dragonspiral Tower, rising high and filled with secrets. [break][break] When thinking of his childhood, of his home, of Unova, it’s not of his family’s ancient manor at the outskirts of Icirrus City that Tam thinks of. It’s of days spent at the nearby moor; of naps beneath trees, of watching the wild pokémon, of exploring the vast woods that lie north of Unova’s Route Eight. [break][break] It’s not that he ever had a particular liking for nature, that he was overly fond of pokémon, or that he considered himself to be adventurous. It was just that things were simpler that way. Nature was always quiet, pokémon were always easier to understand than people, and there was always something interesting happening in the forest. [break][break] If he were asked if he misses those days, if he feels nostalgic when thinking back, Tam really wouldn’t be able to say… [break][break] He didn’t love it. He didn’t hate it. When searching his feelings, all there is is nothingness. [break][break] There are so many things about which Tam feels nothingness. So many life experiences that seem as if they have no emotional significance. His childhood, his relationship with his family, school, his friendship (few and far between as they have been), his more romantic encounters, not even his days as a ranger back in the Unova region – none of it ever mattered much to him. [break][break] A void. One only a few things can fill. Like how training his pokémon sometimes does. Like how he had hoped moving to a place so different from his calm and quiet home might...
