As luck would have it, Oldale lies all too close to the hustle and bustle of Slateport City, and that happens to mean that it's not rare for rangers stationed at the metropolis to stop by the picturesque little town on their way to this or that assignment.

As luck would also have it, one of these rangers happens to be Tam. Who, out of all pokémon out there, considers none other than a Yamper to be one of his closest companions and partners. Perhaps it’s also lucky that the attendant at the Oldale Pokémon Centre knows this, because familiar with the local rangers as she is, she was the one who mentioned @oswyn’s request to Tam when the ranger had stopped by.

Luckiest of all is the fact that he happens to have some free time.

”Hey.” Despite the urgency of the request, the Unovan looks all too calm when meeting the rancher by his barn, clad head to toe in the characteristic ranger uniform since he had happened to be doing fieldwork until now. Then again, couldn’t this also be classified as that? Unofficial fieldwork, perhaps.

”I’m Tam. Heard you need a hand with your Mareep.”

Looking up, Oz caught sight of the help, he had requested. At once, his eyes rolled up and down, as if scanning the newcomer. They were dressed quite the opposite of himself, all prim and proper in a fancy uniform. Whilst, he wore shorts and a hat.[break][break]

“Quite a fancy look, you got there,” Oz said, kindly. Removing his hat and tipping it to the stranger in a partly mocking way. “Nice to meetcha. The name is Oswyn, Oswyn Oswald. But I usually just go by Oz.”[break][break]

The Espeon and Umbreon at his feet peered up at the stranger with large, imperious eyes. His oldest friends, from all the way back in Alola. The Pokemon he had grown up with.[break][break]

Oz looked down at them and smirked. These two, Mochi and Ichigo had a great sense for people’s natures and as they seemed less concerned about this newcomer than usual. A good sign.[break][break]

Oz ran a hand through his already extremely messy hair. “Those Mareep, though? Oh, they’re all over the fields and route back there. Gonna be quite a job to round them all back up.”[break][break]

After a second, Oz jumped up from the barrel he had been sitting upon, returning the hat to his head. “So, Tam. Want a drink?” He said, smiling a wide and mischievous smile. “Finest rum in the region, yknow. It’d be pretty rude of you to refuse, I reckon.”

Tam is indifferent to a great many things in life. It could be argued that he has little care for most things, actually. He is, however, not indifferent to handsome strangers that greet him while clad in nothing other than shorts and a hat. Seems like coming to lend a hand at the ranch may have more perks than just some enrichment for dear Clover.

Still, whatever he may think of the man before him is not revealed by his ever so impassive expression, his brows only quirking just so slightly at Oswyn’s comment on his attire – as if he were considering the words of the rancher.

”Huh. You think so?... It’s more comfortable than what I usually wear.” He shrugs. These days, working at Slateport as he does, Tam finds himself having to wear a suit more often than not, and such being the case, he much prefers his ranger uniform.

And speaking of his uniform…

Even though he’s wearing it, it’s not like he’s actually on the job right now, no? Surely a drink wouldn’t hurt much…

”Sure, I wouldn’t mind a drink.” The response comes with ease, and it’s as it is spoken that Tam reaches for one of the green pokéballs (a Friend Ball) clipped to his belt. From it, he releases a Yamper that looks up at them, giving one excited bark and wagging her short tail.

”As for the Mareep, Clover here should be able to give you a hand with that. She likes herding.”
[break][break]
It’s as if the word itself brings joy to the Yamper; she spins in a perfect circle, chasing her tail before sitting down and barking one more time.

A broad smile broke over Oz’s face as he tipped his hat for a second time. “A drink, I can handle that much. Let me go and get some glasses. Before we get to the ranchin’. It’s time for some good drinkin’” Oz broke into a bellowing laugh that carried across the farm.[break][break]

As he walked away towards the barn-house, Mochi stepped forward towards the clearly excitable Yamper. Sitting right next to the smaller dog, Mochi let loose a searching growl towards the Yamper, but, after a second of sniffing the air. He simply sat to attention waiting for his master to return. Meanwhile, Ichigo had fallen asleep, curled up on top of one of the barrels with her long twin-tail, wrapped around her. Without a care in the world.[break][break]

“Here ya go. One drink,” Oz said, pushing an extremely large, almost barrel-shaped beaker into his hands. “That’ll loosen you up, y’know. Before we get to the hard work.”

Oz jumped back onto the top of the barrel, he had been sitting on, took a deep swig of drink from his own glass and then took another look at Tam.[break][break]

“So, Tam,” momentarily pausing to take a second swig. “Since you’re about to help me, and I trust in your skill. So, how about I do you a favor? If you ever have too many Pokemon to look after and you ever want to keep them somewhere… where better than…” [break][break] Another swig, as he broke off for a third time. “Where better than this ranch. Free of charge, of course. It would be my honor to help the rangers, if needed. Ya’ll are a ranger, right? I assume by the fancy get-up...”[break][break]

Oz beamed a bright smile, once more. Downed the last of his drink and then tipped his hat to the ranger.

”Huh, I didn’t know that’s how ranching works.” There’s nothing serious about Tam tone, nothing stern, no emotion or judgement; truly neutral, through and through, and yet if one were to pay close attention, right there, there’s the slightest hint of dry humour.

There’s also a faint, barely-there smile when looking at his Yamper, eyes as blue as the sky wandering over to the well-behaved Umbreon and the Espeon that peacefully sleeps nearby. Clover is excitable indeed, and her tail wags ceaselessly as she approaches the Umbreon, attempting to befriend it. Watching the pokémon, Tam finds that the ranch makes for a peaceful scene, even when @oswyn returns with an unexpectedly large drink for him.

”Free of charge? Damn, quite the offer.” This time, there’s actual surprise in his tone – vague, but there all the same, brows rising to match the sentiment. Tam takes a sip from his glass, not even wincing at the strong taste of the liquor, and once it has been drank, he looks at Oswyn once more.

”What would you want from the rangers in return? A hand when you need it? This is pretty good, by the way.”

Georgette blinks once, and then twice, as she takes in the sight of myriad little Mareep ambling about the road. The sheep surely didn't belong here, but where, exactly, they did is a question for the ages. Humming softly, her hand goes into her satchel to pull out two pokeballs, which release a pair of Yamper.

"Let's herd them up," she calls to the Yamper, the puppies wiggling ecstatically before zooming off to round up the electric sheep. At the very least they could get some practice in for herding up the Wooloo back home. Commands called out, with some stumbling here and there by the Yampers, the Mareep are soon rounded up and directed down the road towards the nearest exit on the road - likely where they originate from. If not.

Well, she has the day to herself at least.

Walking up the road, and spying a figure in the distance, Georgette calls out hopefully, "Bonjour! Do you know anyone missing Mareep?"
