Am I being threatened?

Orion can smell the whiskey on Tam's breath when he leans in closer. His eyes are very blue. An astute, liquor-fueled observation that doesn't serve to answer the question floating around in his brain.

"Yeah?" His laugh is nervous. "How so?"

He doesn't think to pull back, in spite of being potentially threatened, because the booze has gotten to him. At no point does it occur to him that this is how some people flirt.

If someone were to somehow ask him, he would be taken aback even now, because to him he’s just saying what he thinks: simple, honest, and matter-of-fact. How exactly does he intend to make Orion pay, though?

Lord, Tam is pretty. It's distracting.

"I don't know," is as honest as it is uncertain. He's still not entirely sure what game they're playing. "Do I?"

The spell is broken, brief, when Tam addresses the alcohol that both of them have indulged too much in already. Orion's glass has been replaced by the dutiful bartender while he'd been busy staring at Tam, and he lifts it to his lips just to have a distraction.

"Hah, same..."

Thank Arceus, otherwise he'd be mortified by his own behaviour.

”You don’t know?” It’s not accusatory, for Tam rarely is, but he does watch Orion for a moment, wondering. Uncertainty doesn’t suit Tam Fawley. He’s someone who knows what he wants, and he always goes for it. Things are simple like that. If he were sober, he’d just say what he thinks, but alcohol tends to make his usually clear thoughts much… muddier.

”Okay, then let me ask you this…” He finishes his glass, dulled to the burn of alcohol by now. A hand rests on it, not asking for another refill for now, and his attention remains fixed on Orion. There’s an urge to tease him some more, to say more, but that would be a bit cruel of him, would it not? Maybe Tam is cruel.

Alcohol makes him slow, but it does not make him utterly oblivious. After an uncertain purse of his lips at Tam's first question, still pondering, the follow-up settles like the last dregs of melting ice in Orion's glass.

"With— oh." His cheeks flush darker with the implication, alcohol's pink not saving him twice. He ducks his head, almost shy, then glances back up at Tam through a curtain of dark hair. He laughs, the sound breathy but a different sort of nervous, now. "Yeah. Yeah, sure."

If there's any doubt that Orion still doesn't know what Tam is asking, he eliminates it by closing the gap to brush their lips together, experimental.

Orion Lykos had been wrong about one thing: if either of them is cute, it’s definitely him.

The thought, fleeting as it is in Tam’s mind, is born of alcohol’s haze, and it’s by it that it is also carried away.

There’s the sight of flushed cheeks, the sound of laugh, and following it close, pleasing words and lips that meet his in the most gentle way possible. Reciprocating comes naturally, but gentleness has never suited Tam, and in the mingling tastes of liquors, there is something ardent. It lasts seconds still, and with a gentle bite of a lip, he pulls away just enough for blue eyes to look into green ones once again.

He asks for the bill without looking away.

Who'd have thought that his boss bailing him out of jail might unlock the key to getting laid after months of unwilling abstinence?

Where Orion is gentle, cautious, Tam is assertive and eager. There is no offered protest, only a dazed lust in Orion's emerald gaze when Tam relinquishes the kiss with a cheeky graze of teeth. Tipsy though he might be, there is no doubt that this is what he wants: he's all too eager to follow the Captain toward the door, regardless of where it might lead.

They'll sober on the journey, and Orion won't change his mind.
