Helena soon grew bored of traumatizing normal types and moved on to different prey. A Drakloak, nearby, becomes the target of her harrassment and chases her. When Helena phases through a wall, the Drakloak is not quite so quick, and its arrow-shaped head embeds in the crumbling plaster.

Thomas throws a Pokeball.

"Do you ghost hunt often? Or is this a spur of the moment fancy?"

he spends most of his free time fishing, though never quite lounging around like the sentret in the bush. it's a wonder how he's still able to spot it as it's quite far away, but unfortunately, his luxray is not as keen-eyed as theo.[break][break]

“I find them incredibly entertaining,” Thomas admits, watching Helena phase through a wall into an adjoining room, “though I don’t profess to have any specific knack for handling them.”

A door up ahead bursts open as the Mismagius rushes out with something small and green and wailing in her arms. She thrusts it forward, purple miasma clinging to it like disembodied limbs.

Look at this weird thing, she seems to be saying.

Thomas does look, though his observations are cut short by placing a Pokeball gently to its forehead to silence its cries.

“Yes, very entertaining indeed.”

peering into a room that's empty, he hears something soft, quiet, almost like whimpering. so he takes a closer look, finding the small dunsparce only when he looks behind the door.[break][break]

it immediately bursts into tears, then runs up to hug theo by his leg.[break][break]

not knowing what else to do, he drops a pokeball on it.[break][break]

"i find them very useful in combat. their ability to hide in shadows can make all the difference."

It seemed the both of them were attracting the young and weepiest of wild Pokémon in this abandoned structure.

Thomas peeked through a moth eaten damask curtain hung over a chipped doorframe and came face to face with an Azumarill, holding a broken chair leg in his direction like some semblance of a weapon.

Then, as though to prove Theo’s point, Helena burst from a collection of shadows at the back of the room— surprise! startling the Azumarill enough for it to leap into the air, dart forward, and crack into the doorframe.

Thomas hummed, zapping the stunned creature with a Pokeball. “It’s true. The capacity to render physical barriers inert is an incredibly useful skill. Though I do frequently find myself wishing they packed a bigger punch.”

Helena frowned. Thomas locked eyes with her.

“And had fewer weaknesses.”

His Mismagius shrieked, her version of a thorough cursing-out.

once again, a pokemon that isn't a ghost comes running at them, this time a furious little rattata that attempts to sink its SUPER FANGS into theo. he steps to the side instead, quick in the way he pulls his leg back.[break][break]

the rattata crashes into the bedpost, knocking its head hard enough to disorient itself. he throws a pokeball at it after.[break][break]

"that much is true. i feel the same about poison-types."

Helena’s temper tantrum opens a closet door. It creaks against its old hinges, slumping.

Something rolls out, dragging tracts in the dust on the floor.

“Philosophy tells us there is a balance to the natural order of things,” Thomas muses, cocking his head at the strange, tumbleweed like creature. “All types have weaknesses. All types have strengths.”

Helena, whose strength has always been a maddening brute force, fires a point-blank shadow ball into the Brambleghast, turning the air cold and burning a dark spot on the ground.

“But it does often seem like our favorite types get the short end of the stick, doesn’t it?” He says, on a dry laugh, as he tosses a Pokeball at the poor thing.

the presence of something odd calls to him. he peers around the corner and sees glowing wisps of hair rising, annihilape's FOCUS ENERGY preparing it for a battle.[break][break]

at the same time, theo's luxray had managed to catch up to them. it storms up the stairs in a WILD CHARGE, distracting it long enough for a pokeball to consume it.[break][break]

"but it's ultimately up to us to make the most out of it. to turn their weaknesses into strengths."
