Memo turned away and frowned into the dark. He really, really didn’t like the reminder of all the near death experiences Alex had been through, especially at the hands of ultra beasts.

it was always a shock to remember that for all his softness alex had seen lots of terrible, active combat. more so than anyone should have ever seen.

“well, then he has my eternal gratitude.” he squeezed alex’s hands and pushed on into the dark, cradling frollo to his chest still.

cora fell into step beside them, ruffing affectionately at alex’s memorandum of never pissing her off.

Memo couldn’t help but laugh when Alex defended his capture of the Sandygast.

“Whatever you say, dear. WILL!” He waved away a Drifloon that bounced off a tree branch and deflated like a popped balloon. Memo finagled Frollo to the crook of his arm and fished out a Pokeball.

“Willllllll!”

“Yeah, now you… now you know why I’m not terrified of Loki’s species.”

Kind of ironic, kind of hilarious, but facts were facts. The Sableye had saved him from certain death that certain day.

He… he decided to keep quiet as his boyfriend began calling out for the wayward ovine. However, instead of the aforementioned ovine, something else emerged out of the fog. And of course the other man’s actions of swatting the Drifloon to one side didn’t go unnoticed.

“You… you just swat a Drifloon away, you know that?” he blinked, watching as the ‘something else’ that came out of the fog was a… huh.

Oh, it was the palindrome Pokémon. Well, the tail looked kind of possessed anyway.

Letting out a surprised noise, the Girafarig then charged forward with a Tackle, however a loud screeching from the skies announced the arrival of a strafing Dragon Pulse from the Noivern keeping an eye out for the two from above.

“Yeah… that’s definitely not Will.”

An empty Pokéball is thrown at the surprised Girafarig.

Any creature that had a hand, direct or otherwise, in Alex’s continued survival had his lifelong devotion. Memo knew firsthand how trouble-prone the blonde was. It could not have been easy getting him this far.

“Yeah?” he said, sidestepping the Girafarig and pushing further into the night. He trusted ihs support team to have it handled. “It’s just a balloon. Not like it can hurt me, really.”

There was a squeaking noise from the undergrowth and Cora emerged carrying a Natu in her mouth. Memo frowned, zapped the thing with a Pokeball.

“We’re looking for a Wooloo, Cora. Will. You know him.”

Corazón ruffed an affirmative and stuck her nose back to the earth. After a few moments of loud sniffing she barked loudly and hustled into the dark.

Then came a cacophony of distressed baa-ing.

“Yeah, unless you’re a kid and then the danged thing would really hurt you,” he chuckled with a dark undertone.

Because yes, he knew the story about Drifloon kidnapping naughty children that hung onto their little strands and were eventually carried away. Fucking creepy.

(Not as creepy as the Litwick’s lore, though!)

The moment the Stoutland returned with a Natu, he had to bite back a guffaw.

“Hey, you can’t blame her for trying!” he chided the other, watching as the canid got back to scenting—before suddenly bounding off into the ever-thickening mist.

“H-hey! C-come back here!” he shouted, suddenly breaking out into a mad dash, the better to follow the Stoutland who was headed towards what he could hear as distressed baa-ing noises.

“Will!” he shouted through the fog.

Of course, he’d ran so far ahead he barely noticed the Smoochum as it darted through the foggy undergrowth.

So first Will had gone running off and then Cora and now Alex. Memo opened his mouth to yell and then thought better, just shaking his head and going, “Oh, my god,” under his breath before breaking into a run.

He pushed through a thicket of trees and smacked straight into a hovering Solrock which, for a normal person, was only chest height but on Memo was full-on ‘ram your face into this’ height. It summarily knocked him flat on his back and pushed the wind from his lungs.

The rock peered down at him long enough for him to stiffly work a Pokeball out and zap it.

Alex was on his own in a field full of ghosts, for a moment.

Meanwhile, Alexei had run ahead due to the cacophony of baa-ing noises, following the Stoutland as she ran ahead into the deepening gloom.

Little did he realize that he’d run past a Claydol that was hovering in the fog, staring soullessly as the human ran by.

He had no idea that there were ghosties and spookies up ahead… which was pretty bad in and on itself.

Yikes.

That was bad enough as it is!

“W-wait… wait for me!” he gasped, trying to keep up with the fleeing Stoutland who was now pretty much chasing down the jingling noise deeper in the fog.

He picked himself up stiffly off the ground, touching his face. Bruised, but not broken. God, his poor nose.

Strugging to stand, he tracked the vague shape of a hand reaching out to help him. Still a bit dazed, he figured it was Alex, come back to check on him. “Thanks,” he said, realizing too late that the grip was ice cold and strange.

He was already up on his feet before he opened his eyes and saw the Cofagrigus. “Gah!”

Shivani popped out in a burst of light, downing the sarcophagus with a sucker punch. It made a loud bang as it fell on its back in the dirt.

“Thanks, baby girl,” Memo said, exchanging a smile with his cursed doll as he zapped the Cofagrigus with a Pokeball.

“Let’s go find the gang.”

“Cora? Cora?!” came the hollering from the other man, who was now squinting into the pervading gloom.

He wondered where the canine had run off to, because shit the fog was getting thicker and thicker the longer they remained out here.

It didn’t take long for him to heat clicking…mandibles, wondering if there was something coming as he looked around closely near where he was stepping just in case he accidentally stepped on a wild Pokémon.

…and there was one indeed, that quickly yeeted a dung ball (or was he seeing things) as the insectoid Lunged at him.

“Whoa!” he shrieked, before the angry skittering noise attracted his Noivern’s attention, who came in screaming with an Air Slash attack, knocking it back before another Lunging attempt came, hilariously aimed skywards—but another Air Slash swatted it down, right into the beam of red light from a thrown Pokéball Alexei had chucked at it.

Cora had found will, and boy, was he in a pickle, and with no cheese. The Wooloo was tangled in some rickety thorns, baa-ing and squealing and trying to rip himself free, to no avail. Cora stood by, momentarily useless, because all she could think to do was grab and shake, and, well, that didn’t seem like it would help much in this scenario.

Memo was pushing through the gloom with Shivani at his side, and actually stumbled upon the caught Wooloo before Alex (probably because Alex was busy being accosted by strange, dung-throwing bugs). “Oh, Will,” he admonished softly, kneeling by the Wooloo and wondering what to do. It wasn’t long before Paloma caught sight of them and rerouted, too, and soon there was a whole group of Pokemon around the distressed Wooloo.

Memo felt like the warren gang gathering around Bigwig in the snare.

Enter the Gallade, drawn by the cacophony of screaming sheep. He assessed the situation and quickly went to work freeing Will by slicing through thorns and by the time he was done, only the slightest bit of floof was missing-- although Will did now look like a sponge with bites taken out of it.

“Thank you,” Memo said, as he was turning Will’s head this way and that to assess the damage. “Now, what did you have to run off for?”

Will bleated loudly in his face. Frollo echoed it from his position on Memo's shoulder, right in his trainer's ear.

Memo winced.

The Gallade cocked its head, took another look at them, and decided it really couldn’t chance to leave them out here on their own, because they were obviously all idiots.
