His head flopped back against the pillow, chest rising and falling in a rapid race for breath.

It did take a few moments for the world to stop spinning and be under him, again; there was a lingering ache in his muscles from fighting something for so long, like standing in the same position for hours at a time.

He felt for Alex’s body in the darkness beside him, body collapsing, retracting, curling up to fit into the warmth and shape of his partner.

He knew it was such a tall ask for his boyfriend to surrender all control to him, even if it was just for a few hours at a time—he knew how these things went, especially now that he knew the other’s entire story through the ‘dark years’.

“Thank you for allowing this to happen,” he hummed quietly as he felt the ‘little spoon’ curl up around him.

He hummed quietly as he ran his hand through his partner’s hair.

“How… how did you feel? Like, really. Honestly.”

Memo feels like a washcloth that’s been over-rung, creased and pressed and dry. Sleep bubbles at the corners of his vision, carried in on the back of warmth and comfort, but he blinks against it.

“Fantastic,” he manages, distantly realizing Alex has asked him a question. He nuzzles into his boyfriend’s throat. “I love you.” It isn’t very eloquent, but his brain has been heated and simmered past the point of complex sentence production.

Hopefully, the next time this happened—as Alexei was absolutely certain that there was going to be a ‘next time’, he hoped Memo wouldn’t freeze up.

Even if it was just for a few hours at a time. There was a good start, at least!

“Oh no, but I love you even more.”

And then the nose boop afterward.

“I love you, as long as the skies above exist. As much as the air we breathe. Truly, madly, deeply…”

He yawned after that.

“Let’s get some rest, hm? We have to save the world in a few hours or so…”
