"i didn't expect to be worked to the core all festival long," alecis sighed as she sprawled over wood before her. the bartender swept by, serving sazeracs to the various customers that had already included herself and jesse. the festival workers had taken rotating breaks and it just so happened to land on jesse and alecis's group this time around, having taken it upon themselves to promote jesse's business by working in formal dress-up stalls. jesse had been the stylist to get people's hair and makeup ready while alecis had the great honor of helping put men and women in kimonos, yukatas, and more. the facepaint alecis had on was still as vibrant as the start of the festival, having decided to get in the spirit by letting some small children do as they pleased in terms of design. unfortunately for alecis, this left her with a variety of vibrant colors and weird swirly patterns on her cheeks and forehead.[break]
"my new year resolution is to never let my love for kids get in the way of my better judgement," she said much to the dismay of her little baby ditto who seemed to push against the wall of its pokeball - urging to get out and argue against this. "how about you, jess?"

The blonde couldn't help but laugh as he reached for the water he'd ordered along with his Sazerac and carefully dipped a napkin in it to wet it a little, then reached over and began to help Alecis clean off some of the makeup. The kids certainly had some interesting design choices, nothing Jesse himself would go for, but they had some hope to be good makeup artists, he supposed. But as he leaned over the table to help clean her off, he noticed the way her one pokeball wiggled a bit, and Jesse couldn't help but snatch it up. A grin found its way to his face as he pressed the button in the center to release the baby Ditto that Alecis found herself so proud of. The blue blob sat in his arms, and Jesse looked down at it with a twinkle in his eyes.

"I think my resolution is to spend more time with my future stepchild," he joked.

The baby Ditto seemed to like that idea as it warbled a bit and gave an 'itoooo' as if in an attempt to agree. Jesse couldn't help the way he babytalked the creature and smoothed a hand over the top of its gelatinous body. In truth, he was certain this was the first time he'd actually held the baby Ditto in itself. The creature had the substance of silly putty, but he didn't dare squeeze the creature. If anything, he held it carefully almost as if he was holding a child. To sprinkle on the affections he showed the baby of Alecis' Ditto trio, he kissed its forehead before he offered it back to her.

"But seriously, I actually can't say I've thought of anything. Maybe one I'd like to consider is going to Kalos again and keeping more in touch with my dad. Check back on me at the end of the night with a resolution."

With that said, Jesse tilted his head back and took a swig of his drink. Absinthe remained heavy in the drink, so he knew that the best route was to nurse the drink. He didn't want to turn into a drunken mess, after all.

obviously joking, alecis winked at jesse - appreciating his treatment of her 'baby' who seemed to be happy just sitting in alecis's lap and sucking on a small slice of orange she had ordered to distract her pokemon. "i was hoping for something saucy like you intend to find a partner already." truthfully, neither of them were getting any younger and the magician's tricks up her sleeve weren't getting any fresher or more astounding. with the advancement of technology, all her charm and flair was growing dated and she, too, probably needed to settle down - if she intended to at all, that is. while she could joke about such a thing, she didn't give it much thought, herself, so a return of the question would prove fatal for her since her wires were already coming to cross as she continued drinking (CON ROLL: 4, FAIL). "i think it's about time, we're getting old." it was solid advice, she supposed. things were starting to get a bit fuzzy and her body was feeling a bit warm - a good thing, given the colder weather.[break]
"i'll check back later though, as you said. no need to rush things. the new year is still upon us and there's always things to do and things to plan - things to ..." she trailed off, tilting her cup to her lips as she attempted to recover her train of thought. this only made matters worse, obviously (CON ROLL, 8). "y'know, i'm just glad you're here. it makes the whole 'growing old alone' thing a lot less painful."

Jesse couldn't help but reach over and give his partner a playful nudge at the way she stated that they were growing old together. As he finished his drink, he couldn't help but playfully nudge Alecis' drink with his now emptied cup. (CON ROLL: 14) He hadn't taken her as such a lightweight. But then again, how long had it been since she bothered to drink? Not that it was his business, of course. It wasn't long until another drink came his way and he had carefully begun to nurse it. It wasn't like he didn't enjoy drinking, but he did like to respect his limits. Eyes glanced over the rim of his glass at his dear friend as his features softened.

"And here I thought we were together. Are you out here finding yourself a new beautiful assistant?"

He couldn't help the laugh that bubbled out as he sat his drink down in fear that he may spill it. It felt good to unwind like they were. Jesse glanced down at the Ditto in his lap who had begun to suck on its orange slice again and gave it a few gentle strokes to encourage the creature to simply remain comfortable. He hadn't noticed how lovely the baby of the troupe was with its blue hues, but now that it was under the proper lighting, he could appreciate the creature. He knew his Gengar had quite taken to its change in color. (He liked purple, but he certainly was a sucker for blues, too.)

With a breath in, he declared his new years resolution and puffed his chest out to really accentuate his bold claim to the magician across the table. "Maybe my resolution is going to get you to fall for my charm. Like you said, we aren't getting any younger, Alecis."

Did it really matter though? The two had been quite inseparable since they met a few years back. But Jesse seemed to proud to make such a bold statement.

“you’re telling me you’re a greater trickster than i am?” alecis was playful in her own right, attempting to seem unbothered and unamused with the way her eyebrows sat lazily atop her gaze, her expression flat. “i don’t think i’d be able to fall for you unless you pulled the rug from under me, making me quite literally tumble and trip on the way down.” [break]

this was a lie.[break]

as part of rocket, it was her nature to lie - but she could never make substantial ones in jesse’s face. this was a white lie, or really more of a tease in which she pulled on his cheeks with her diction but patted his shoulder familiarly with one of her hands. “just shut up,” the lavender-haired woman said, smelling of liquor and spirits unlike her usual floral scents.[break]

within a moment, she silenced them both.[break]

jesse’s collar was held tightly in alecis’s right fist, pulled taut so his lips were against her own. the cerulean ditto rippled with shock, dropping its little orange slice and gaping with awe. alecis was none the more perturbed, instead seemingly content with herself. it was cliche, but being sober was overrated when it came to being bold enough to move romance plots along. her age wasn’t getting to her, but deep in her mind she knew she had to allow herself some liberty - some kind of release from the shackles of her previous marriage.[break]

– even if she would likely take things slow given how quickly she had advanced.[break]

maybe it would be out of guilt for doing this to jesse unprompted, but those worries were for future alecis. present alecis was happy with herself and raised her new glass for a toast: “to us this year, then? you need to find a new resolution, i think.”

How rare it was not to hear words come out of his mouth. Silence was golden, but it was also precious in the presence of Jesse Leclerc. While his cheeks heated up, it didn't take long for his entire face to go red from embarrassment. It wasn't often he was humbled but this was certainly one of those moments. He could still taste the Sazerac from the kiss they shared as he found himself licking his own lips in a sense of anticipation.

Little did he realize, from his own collection of pokeballs, his Gengar popped out and looked in horror at the orange slice that the poor baby Ditto had dropped. He hurriedly swept up the poor creature and carried it along to go get another orange slice. Anything to make his favorite Ditto of Alecis' trio happy.

Once Jesse managed to come back down from cloud nine, he couldn't help but give a giddy grin.

"Well, I guess my new resolution is to continue to dazzle you throughout this new year."

Jesse sat their drinks aside, making sure to pluck Alecis' right out of her hand. He was certain she'd had more than enough. Jesse leaned over the table and rested a hand on her shoulder as he returned the favor and tilted his head so the two could properly lock lips. At least this time he wasn't pressed against her in some awkwardly forced fashion. He kept it simple and sweet, not wanting to push Alecis too far quite yet. His hand moved from her shoulder as fingers delicately rested against the crook of her neck. It wasn't long until he pulled back and returned to his seat.

And speaking of returns, the Gengar and Ditto duo soon came back with fresh orange slices for the both of them.
