despite being colleagues, cian's only met Alexei Ivanov once or twice since his promotion to gym leader. as he looks to rectify that, what better way than to challenge the man's gym?[break][break]

His receptionists weren’t in today, so it was the man of the hour himself at the front desk finishing up some leftover paperwork when he heard someone address him by name.

“Yes, that’s me and I—” he trailed off as he put down the last of the papers that Ethan had left for him to look over. “Oh! I remember you.”

He had to squint for a few moments before he continued.

“How you got out of there and still have your head on your shoulders. Congratulations,” he added quietly, once he realized just where he’d seen the other man before.

“Two on two, right?” he confirmed.

Admittedly, not his best format, but there was a first time for everything right?

it's only a matter of time until he runs into rocket again. just two weeks ago he had encountered bryan delarosa in his gym; the first attempt at his life. it will not be the last.[break][break]

“Let’s go out to the back,” he continued with a point of his thumb over his shoulder.

(What, you were expecting to wreck the reception area?)

Opening the right-hand side door that led to the open-air arena out back from the reception area, the battle grounds would be revealed; stark white paint marking the grounds for the ‘arena’.

To be fair he wanted to be up in the air so bad but certain events had forced him to rethink those options… anyway!

He knew better than to underestimate the Froakie because of its Hidden Ability (which would cause a lot of trouble) and so…

One of his… older draconids, a sleepy ol’ Drampa waddled up to him; nuzzling him in welcome. Right on his back was an Oricorio—and this time, thank fucking goodness, was the right one he’d been meaning to throw out for more practice.

“I know, Drampa’s land bound… but have you seen them fly?” he continued as he pat the grampa dragon affectionately before the yellow Oricorio landed on his side of the arena.

“You get first move!” he called across, bracing himself for what could possibly be the messiest battle he would ever be in.

getting the first move, cian focuses up, then reaches behind his shoulder to throw his froakie onto the battlefield.[break][break]

"okay! now we're ready. let's get it!"[break][break]

froakie coughs up a SMOKESCREEN like a seasoned smoker. the dark cloud spreads all around, clouding them which sets up kecleon's tongue that shoots out at the oricorio. it looks to BIND the bird.

And oh boy here we go—

Right off the bat a thick cloud of smoke gets thrown their way, but he has a plan—or rather, the Drampa does and sneakily used Safeguard to protect against anything of the status kind that may get thrown their way—it was possible so never hurt to have that move always on-hand right?

The yellow Oricorio on the other hand—let out a surprised squawk at the sudden attempt to bind her movements from the—eww, gross! The avian let out a disgusted noise, before attempting to whack it with a close-range Hurricane.

Okay, pretty violent right off the track but that tongue was gross!

…even Alexei himself cringed at the sight of the tongue trying to wrap around the dual-type.

Drampa & Oricorio (Pom-pom) are out on the field!

Drampa used Safeguard, while Oricorio makes this disgusted face (eww) and attempts to retaliate with a Hurricane right off the bat! ~~clearly someone chose violence~~

the oricorio's HURRICANE is such a vicious move that they simply cannot risk having it repeated every round. for that reason, kecleon's quick to DISABLE it as it stands its ground, staring the oricorio straight in its face.[break][break]

COLOR CHANGE and PROTEAN come into play as froakie leaps up into the air to send out a HYDRO PUMP at the oricorio before coming back down to hide in what little remains of the SMOKESCREEN.[break][break]

“Damn, girl, really?” was all he would say, whistling very sharply exactly once as the yellow Oricorio tried to retaliate with another Hurricane but realized that the move was temporarily unavailable—and the yellow avian let out another squawk of displeasure.

This was before the incoming burst of hoselike water came rocketing towards the Oricorio, who scrambled and swapped to Revelation Dance, knowing that the type of the move would swap to Electric as she completed her skillful move and attempted to slam into the Froakie.

Meanwhile, the Drampa hovered in the background seemingly looking useless but then again a burst of Extrasensory energy came shooting towards the Kecleon.

Drampa & Oricorio (Pom-pom) are out on the field!

Oricorio is extremely displeased since Hurricane has been disabled, scrambled to switch to Revelation Dance to attack the Froakie while getting a sideswiping blow from the Hydro Pump attack! Meanwhile, Drampa used Extrasensory aimed at the Kecleon!

the REVELATION DANCE squares cleanly, doing the full amount of damage as froakie's PROTEAN had swapped it back to water-type. it cries out in pain as the SMOKESCREEN fades. but it does not fall just yet.[break][break]

kecleon is brought to a knee by drampa's EXTRASENSORY but it resists, fighting back only to return a PSYBEAM at the oricorio.[break][break]

focusing their attacks, froakie leaps to attempt to SMACK DOWN the oricorio as well.

It was at this point he realized that they were ganging up on the Oricorio—but what Cian may not know (or did he) was that this particular Oricorio of his was one of the more stubborn ones.

Right as the first attack came screaming at her, the Mirror Move kicked in that transformed into a Psybeam that was sent flying straight back at the Kecleon as the yellow avian took the first incoming attack and was forced back by the second attack as well.

The Drampa wasn’t going to stand around either, and aimed a Dragon Breath toward the Froakie, hacking away at the other Pokémon as well.

Wasn’t it strange that it was just the Oricorio being assaulted? But he knew that there was more to that…

Drampa & Oricorio (Pom-pom) are out on the field!

Oricorio is being focus-fired on, and used Mirror Move to return the Psybeam at the Kecleon! Drampa used Dragon Breath aimed at the Froakie!

kecleon's COLOR CHANGE allows it to take the returning PSYBEAM with ease. it shrugs off the pain, shaking its head to snap back into the battle.[break][break]

and all froakie can do is take the DRAGON BREATH, letting flames lick off its wet skin.[break][break]

kecleon's ANCIENT POWER rises, attempting to hold the oricorio in place for froakie to come SMACKING DOWN on it to hopefully knock it out.

Now that the two were bearing down on the Pom-Pom Oricorio, and she was being hoisted into the air by the Kecleon—however the Froakie was attempting to come in with the coup de grace but there was no way in hell she was going to allow that to happen!

(Maybe disabling the Hurricane move was a mistake, because this particular Oricorio of his excelled in something else…)

One singular, sharp burst of noise from his direction meant that the Drampa was to switch targets, firing down another Extrasensory—only this was aimed at the Froakie, while the Oricorio used Mirror Move.

The yellow avian saw this as a chance to snatch an attack of opportunity and throwing an equally-sized rock back at the Froakie in an attempt to force a double knock out—at least, if that happened then there would be only one Pokémon each on their side of the field remaining…!

Drampa & Oricorio (Pom-pom) are out on the field!

Oricorio is currently being held by the Ancient Power, however used Mirror Move to throw back the Smack Down at the Froakie; while the Drampa unloaded another Extrasensory, however this time aiming at the Froakie as well!

as they gang up on poor froakie, cian is left having to play defense.[break][break]

DETECTING the SMACK DOWN, kecleon leaps and tackles froakie out of the way and helps it snap out of EXTRASENSORY.[break][break]

taking a breath, froakie returns a HYDRO PUMP aimed at the oricorio.

And then, it was time.

He knew he had to move, and fast, otherwise he would lose both Pokémon on the next round—!

“Move!” was the only word he would say on his side of the field, as the Drampa swung his head around and released a Dragon Breath at the annoying little lizard (Kecleon) while the Oricorio huffed, literally walking headfirst straight into a torrential burst of water.

And the sound she made? Utter displeasure.

She wasn’t going to quit, though, as she closed the distance and charged towards the Froakie with her Revelation Dance!

Drampa & Oricorio (Pom-pom) are out on the field!

Drampa changes tactics and turned to aim Dragon Breath at the Kecleon, while Oricorio walked literally into the Hydro Pump and is understandably pissed! Unfazed (but starting to tire), she then retaliated at the Froake with a Revelation Dance!
