The silence in the back of his head was like a plague, and it was one he didn’t like.

“Wha—” he trailed off before the Mirage disappeared in another explosion of icicles.

Elinor watched silently. She felt the urge to interrupt, to ask more of the Mirage. But before long the Mirage was gone and popped away in another explosion of icicles.

Left behind were she and Lars.

“So, I guess that was a small Yes?” She asked her cousin for some measure of confirmation that she was interpreting his patron correctly.

“Eli, I still got radio silence in the back of my head,” he continued quietly as he turned to face her—never mind the heat of the blasted volcano radiating behind him.

“Initially it was a no, but you saw what they did. It was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment—they nodded. However it was a tiny little nod. Not sure if that’s going to be a good or a bad thing.”

He could only sigh.

“Well, the good news is that we didn’t make this trip all the way up here for absolutely nothing. So. There’s hope.”

However small it was.

While Lars reassured her that the radio silence was still on max volume, Elinor figured there was more than one way for a Pokémon to communicate.

But that was neither here nor there as Lars confirmed that yes, while they didn’t gain much, they did gain something.

“That is better than expected, honestly.” Elinor said. At least they had confirmation of SOMETHING, now they just had to make that into something useful.

And with that their search came to a temporary end.
