Let's play a game! Because real-world animals don't exist in Hoenn, I'm looking for help brainstorming what Pokemon would be featured in real-world movies, shows, books, etc. If a movie like "The Fox and The Hound" had been created in the Pokemon universe, what species would the characters be? Would those changes effect the plot in any significant way? Let's talk about it here!
Here are a few I managed to come up with!
"Lady and The Tramp" (1955) Directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske
- Lady the dog → Furfrou
- Tramp the dog → Houndoom
- Jock the dog → Herdier
- Trusty the dog → Manectric (?)
- Siamese cats → Persian
Synopsis: Lady the Furfrou has lived a pampered upper-class life with her owners Jim and Darling for years, but her life takes a bit of a turn with the imminent addition of a baby into the household. The baby's arrival indirectly has a negative effect on Lady's perfect life. To escape, Lady turns to Tramp, a mongrel Houndoom who lives a carefree life on the "wrong side of the tracks" and is renowned as being one of the most resourceful dogs in town. When Lady and Tramp fall for each other, the question becomes whether their two divergent lifestyles can mesh and whether the two could realistically have a future together.
"The Fox and The Hound" (1981) Directed by Ted Berman, Richard Rich, and Art Stevens
- Tod the fox → Nickit / Thievul
- Copper the dog → Rockruff / Lycanroc (?)
- Big Mama the owl → Dartrix
Synopsis: A young Nickit named Tod is taken in by an old woman after his mother is killed by a hunter. Full of mischief, Tod befriends Copper, a Rockruff pup who lives next door. The two become inseparable friends in their youth, but their relationship is put to the test as both give into their baser instincts. As they grow up, their friendship becomes even more endangered by what they have become: Copper is a hunting dog, and Tod is his prey.
"Bolt" (2008) Directed by Byron Howard and Chris Williams
- Bolt the dog → Yamper
- Mittens the cat → Glameow
- Rhino the hamster → Pawmi
Synopsis: Bolt the Yamper has lived his whole life on the set of a TV show, where he believes he is a national champion and a crime-fighting superhero. When separated from the studio by accident, he meets a Glameow named Mittens and a Pawmi named Rhino. While trying to find his way back home, he learns that the show is not real and that he is an under-level Pokemon with no real battle experience. In the end, he discovers that he doesn't need to be a renowned champion to save those he cares about.
