You never knew what to make of the world, outside of the gifts he left you the last time you spoke.[break][break]

Was it because you were just like him and didn’t want to reach out for anyone after that loss settled in? How could you, when the bedrock that made up your world was smashed like the fragile glass it always was. How could anyone expect their child to carry on as if it hadn’t happened, as if you were just supposed to be well and fine enough to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and set out without even being able to call your Mother and Father for updates or advice.[break][break]

“What a terrible joke.” You said to yourself for the forty-second time that week, giving your complaint tracker a margin of error of about one to three. Even as that shadow you cared for so dearly that you’d hollowed out a part of your backpack for the stone tried to console you with spectral arms, another sigh left your lips all the same.[break][break]

Loss is hard to cope with, and you never had the chance to learn how, but now you do. It’s a big, wide open world out there, and here you are, sitting at the side of a bus stop in a foreign land because the Castelia atmosphere became too heavy of a reminder.[break][break]

Still, your eyes track to a pair of kids younger than you, talking about how they want to be champion when they grow up, and how they always admired those strong trainers that made acting in sync with their pokémon look like the easiest and most amazing thing in the world. Hearing their dreams makes you smile, but it doesn’t give you the motivation you need.[break][break]

Thankfully, you aren’t the only one listening.[break][break]

An ethereal cry quietly shakes you back to reality, one of those spectral arms handing you an image of a man and woman proudly holding a badge case with three shining medallions up to the camera.[break][break]

”Right, this isn’t just about me.” You say in response, holding the picture right against your chest.[break][break]

This wasn’t just your dream you were carrying. It was theirs too.[break][break]

Just before the doors closed, you stepped onto the bus yourself, and began your new adventure.[break]
