From childhood, Algernon Believe has been different. Born in the shadow of Mount Coronet in the Sinnoh region, Algernon grew up in Celestic Town, surrounded by ancient history, culture and mythology-- feeding on it, perhaps. A listless, withdrawn child, he held little interest in the legends of the Celestica people and the intricate, sometimes clashing myths that defined the region, only able to be brought even a little out of his shell by spending time with Pokemon. until one unremarkable summer day, a Drifloon blew in from the west on a warm wind. Much like the town itself, the existence of the Drifloon species is defined by folklore, and the sleepy mountainside town was whipped up into a frenzy when the lonely child disappeared along with the Ghost-type Pokemon that had been spotted floating lazily overhead.

The boy's parents desperately searched for him, hindered by the rugged terrain surrounding Celestic, but it was not until that they moved their search down the slopes of Coronet into the area surrounding nearby Solaceon Town that they found their son, playing with a strangely shaped stone in the dirt. They rushed him home, dizzy with relief that their son had not been taken to the underworld like the legends claimed-- but their son had certainly changed, all the same.

Where before the young boy had been uninterested in the history of his people, now he threw himself into learning everything he could about the myths of ancient Sinnoh with a passion that outshone even those who had tried to impart the knowledge on him in the first place. Though still quiet, Algernon now engaged with life in the town with a subdued kind of intensity. The people around him found this change perplexing, and the boy himself difficult to interact with at times, but the least they could do was recognize that he had found his calling in life.

His first Pokemon was the very same Drifloon that had carried him away on that unremarkable day, and he became closer to it than his own parents, never seen without the balloon Pokemon hovering just overhead. Even when it evolved after years of careful raising, Algernon was still loathe to ever leave its side. In secret, he unlocked the mystery of the stone he had been found with by himself using the knowledge he'd begun to accumulate, and made a partner of the unnatural Pokemon he found inside, Spiritomb.

When he came of age, Algernon vanished from Celestic without a trace, and the first few years of his adulthood were spent in almost perfect solitude, studying the various ruins and unusual locales of the Sinnoh region. Seemingly without purpose, he investigated places like the Old Chateau and Snowpoint Temple with a single-minded intensity-- although, what he planned to do with whatever he learnt there is a secret known only to him, if such an answer even existed in the first place.

--Now, he has come to the Hoenn region, a place with countless mysteries and mythologies of its own for him to sate his strange, inexplicable curiosity on. It might be considered strange, then, that he did so by joining Team Rocket, an infamous crime syndicate with nefarious designs on the region and its history. For what reason would he align himself with crime?
