IC INFORMATION

Flying Sword School is two things. Firstly, it's the name of a martial arts school that specialises in swordplay. Secondly, it's a small satellite village on the edge of Fortree City, to which the School gives its name. Flying Sword School sits on the border of the City, right where the tall grass of Hoenn's wilds begins thickening into Fortree's signature dense growth. Unlike Fortree City itself, one can see the sky big and clear from here.

Front and centre, one sees the village's anchor location: the School's main hall and a huge stone quadrangle. This is where most students spend their time and where the locals gather for important activities. The more advanced a student gets - and the closer they get to their teachers - the further inwards they go into the hall.

Flying Sword School is run by the Yangs, the chief family of the village. Consequently, the Yangs often refer to themselves, the school and the village interchangeably as "the clan". Its current headmaster, bearing the title Master Flying Sword - and thus also village patriarch - is Finnegan Yang.

Finn, or "shifu" to his students, is a fierce protector and champion of the School. A decade ago, a rival clan called the Jets razed the School to the ground; Finn burned their village down in return. Flying Sword School is Finn's beating heart and his joy.

The School has different programmes with scaling levels of commitment and intimacy. The casual hobbyist can find themselves in leisurely pursuits like general fitness and martial arts classes. (The village also makes good money hosting touristy weekend martial arts retreats!) For earnest seekers who want to find clarity of spirit through the sword, they can initiate and become a sworn member of the Clan. In these cases, Finn and Flying Sword School are no longer just teacher and club, but master and family.

Initiating into Flying Sword School is no easy feat at all. In addition to being a master of the sword, Finn tests the strength of your character. When Finn initiates someone, it is a mark of blood and spirit.

OOC INFORMATION

Feel free to use Flying Sword School as a setting for your threads! Most classes at the beginner and intermediate levels are taught by associate teachers, with Finnegan making guest appearances here and there. If you want, you can write your character has having had some brief encounter with Finn in this setting. I (Robin, Finn's writer) welcome one-to-one threads with Finnegan in a school context for characters who already have substantial experience with the School and want to explore getting involved with the Clan.
