Her head cocks, and the edges of her mouth curl like a languid feline. "One day."

The price for her cooperation, unwritten in whatever contract Dahlia would ask to be drafted. Skyler's propensity for disregarding law-abiding behavior was well-known, but to ask it of Dahlia was another matter entirely.

One day.

Shifting riptides loom in the silence between words, threatening to pull their brittle truce under. But it's in that treacherous space, that unfolding possibility, that Skyler weights dahlia goode 's words.

Whether she finds them acceptable or wanting, remains a mystery.

"On you it is. On me too." She adds. "I'd say I'd try to temper my expectations, but I'm fully confident you're up for the task, Commissioner."

Skyler looks around, restlessness drumming a pattern against the floor. "You don't happen to have something like a celebratory drink, do you? I feel like the moment calls for it."
