WHETHER IT WAS DISPLACED BENEATH LITTLEROOT DUE TO DIMENSIONAL ENTANGLEMENT, BROUGHT BACK TO FUNCTIONING ORDER DUE TO DIALGA, OR BOTH, can not be determined. However, this kingdom made entirely out of intricate mechanisms is void of human life. Clockwork gears, iron tunnels, and curious domes make up this kingdom that continues to function like an animatronic music box.[break][break]

Mechanical Pokemon like Magearna, Volcanion and others present in the kingdom seem to be robotic, set to a rhythm or programming like an animatronic figure.[break][break]

Several clock towers loom above the entire kingdom, though their machinery seems to be in disrepair.

So this was his father's chosen heir. A man so favored by Fate that he was even granted a second chance at life.[break][break]

"Malcolm," the unwanted half-brother introduced himself with a smile that flashed the barest hint of teeth. "A privilege to work alongside you both."[break][break]

Though that was more true for one of them than the other.[break][break]

His ice-blue eyes slid to Elite Four Katherine Fairburne appreciatively, noting the Elite Four's presence with an incline of his head. If he was going to explore one of the most dangerous known realms outside of Hoenn, there was no better companion than the woman that Giratina had deemed worthy of being the Malevolent.[break][break]

"What do you think of that location?" he continued, indicating a distant clocktower. "Gives us some shelter to work with as a foundation. Not a far walk, really."[break][break]

His Metagross walked behind him with ease, seeming comfortable in this mechanical world of whirring gears and iron tunnels. Malcolm preferred it, too. For all that he surrounded himself with people, there was a comfort in the rote and repetitive nature of machinery.[break][break]

People followed patterns, however. You just had to learn them.[break][break]

And here, on this outing, Malcolm was intent on learning the machinery that made up the mind of ALEXANDER STONE.

A flutter of eyelashes is all Malcolm Stone receives for a greeting from the Malevolent. That is until Katherine hears ALEXANDER STONE and reminds herself of her long-lost manners, "and I'm Katherine." She adds after the former champion, her tone devoid of warmth, detached and strict.

This was work, after all.

"If it's empty then I believe it should work," she mentions, following up on Malcolm Stone's suggestion of the clocktower, "this place is supposedly infested with guards.. And I'd be surprised if that tower isn't a part of their patrol route." Nevertheless, she doesn't outright deny the possibility that it could work. In fact, judging by the fact she doesn't halt or change course, it's only fair to assume that the elite four was eager to find them.

[attr="class","stonemain"]to his surprise, they make it to their first location without much of an issue beyond it being a slightly long walk. his head dips as he steps into what he assumes to be a broken clock tower judging by the make and height and fallen pieces on the ground.

he peers up, taking in just how high up it goes.

"this will do, i think."

there's the main door that leads in and out, as well as windows that provide them an ample view of their surroundings, including more towers and buildings that look abandoned.

he shrugs off his backpack and starts preparing their base.

Not all parts of an adventure were thrilling. Setting up with Katherine Fairburne and ALEXANDER STONE was a quiet affair, focused and dutiful as all three parties did their part in preparing the clocktower to serve as a base of operations. Was it ironic, that he and his brother seemed to work together so well?[break][break]

The silence helped there, Malcolm supposed.[break][break]

Outside, his Metagross stood guard in case their peace would be disturbed, while his Rotom hovered nearby to watch the shifting of the clock's gears with fascination and interest. "What?" Malcolm asked the plasma Pokemon with equal parts amusement and irritation. "Hoping to possess the clocktower? That seems beyond you."[break][break]

He frowned then as he leaned forward, examining where the Pokémon's attention had been drawn.

"Huh. Seems the tower's missing parts," he announced, the question of 'why' left unspoken. Had someone stolen them? Maybe enough time had elapsed that they had collapsed and broken?[break][break]

Nothing living seemed to be here, at least, other than them. That fact made itself all the more known as his Metagross stomped the ground in warning.[break][break]

"We're not alone," Malcolm warned, turning just in time to see the approach of soulless Volcanion guards. An EARTHQUAKE shuddered through the earth as his Metagross began the offensive, seeking to drive them back.

Malcolm's warning earns a tilt of the head and a brief sequence of blinks. The Volcanion guards are eyed with a glimmer of curiosity before Katherine finally gestures for her Mimikyu to aid the Metagross with its assault. The doll-like pokemon remains motionless as it lends its force and contributes to the EARTHQUAKE, heightening the tremor's power.

"Mm, yes. It seems like we aren't alone anymore," she confirms, adjusting with ease to the treacherous terrain the trio stood upon. "There's a chance that there are more of these guys up there. We should probably check to be sure..."

The violent trembling grows ever so slightly stronger when a foreign force joins to support the Metagross and Mimikyu, not revealing itself yet.

"..I mean, unless one of you is scared."

"that's what we're here for, isn't it?"

to learn, explore, and discover. even if it means having to face possible dangers at times.

with a smile, he nods at the others and advances. his doublade handles what remains of the volcanion with ease before slipping into the next room.

Was Katherine taunting him? Malcolm's eyes narrowed briefly before an easy smile dismissed the notion; if she was, he decided her bait would go untaken.[break][break]

It would be a lie to say his posture didn't tense slightly, however. Being observed had that effect on a performer.[break][break]

"Indeed," he agreed with a chuckle of his own, following the two Hoennians into the next room. "Your region seems a magnet for unusual phenomena like this. Has that always been the case?"[break][break]

His Metagross's heavy footsteps shuddered behind him, while his Rotom buzzed over his shoulder.[break][break]

An endless mandala of coruscating gears clicked and whirred all around them, forming a bizarre architecture that defied human design. It had the look and feel of a machine designed by a machine, following an unintuitive logic that created an uncanny patchwork of beautiful oddities.[break][break]

It was then that a curious-looking thing landed in front of them, appearing frozen in place before fleeing into the darkness.[break][break]

Malcolm wouldn't recognize it as the Zygarde cell that it was, but perhaps his companions would.

"For the most part, yes," Katherine easily replies, as though having practised the answer or encountered a similar question before. "Some claim it's always been like this, even in history," she withholds the validity of the claim and whether she herself believed in it. It's not like someone could know for sure.

A snap of Katherine's fingers directs her ghost's attention to her before she gestures for it to follow closely, content with continuing onwards for now.

The ZYGARDE CELL, although noticed, is not so easily recognized. Despite having seen it in the past, no memory surfaces at the sight of the slippery, green cell. "What is that..?" Although she doesn't ask for help, her Mimikyu intervenes and chases after the cell with its shadow.

Well, that settles it. They had to follow it. "Come on, it's best we don't lose it."

It was equally unsettling and relieving to find his companions knew as little as he did of the ZYGARDE CELL. A brusque nod acknowledged agreement as he followed them deeper into the labyrinth of clockwork machinery.[break][break]

"Do you think it senses us?" he mused aloud, indicating the cell. "Assuming it's alive."[break][break]

Could anything here be called alive, however? Everything seemed artificial, hollow, and lifeless.[break][break]

"Or perhaps it's leading us somewhere, purposefully."

Judging by how it slithered on the cold, metallic tiles, almost as though in a rush to flee from the pursuing shadows of ALEXANDER STONE and Katherine's Pokemon..? It was hard to imagine that the creature didn't sense their presence.

It eventually makes a break for it, managing to slither upon one of the broken CLOCK TOWER'S walls. Katherine traces it with her eyes, a narrowed scarlet stare that intently judges the creature when it out-manoeuvres her Mimikyu and Alexander's Doublade.

And then she spots it.

Her eyes widen when a familiar glimmer reflects upon them, the gleam of her most precious jewel. It's unmistakable. The murmur in her heart confirms it, a reassuring guarantee that she finds solace in. This wasn't the Ultra Desert. Her mind was no longer playing tricks on her.

"Alexander," the yearning-- the desperation in her voice should be familiar to him. He's heard it before. "I see it. I-- I have to-" no further explanation is offered. Instead, her body acts; a hand moves and with it a ripple of distorted energy paints upon this realm with a stroke of a violet, otherworldly shade. Gravity bends to her whims, likely affecting both Stones and their Pokemon in the process.

If they weren't to hold onto something or adjust fast to its now reversed pull on their body, they'd join Katherine as she rose in the air to the top of the tower, seeking to reach the clocktower's bell with her hand.
