Voices swam around Colton's mind, beckoning calls to return back into the depths of the ship. Promises of knowledge, of strength, of things he could never even possibly imagine. Just so long as he sank down beneath the ever encroaching waves and joined the creatures in the deep. Their siren call was impossible to ignore, even above the din of rushing water echoing through the halls as the trio made their way up and out.

But logic won the battle, that day. Or rather, some natural instinct deep within Colton won. The instinct to escape, to survive and leave this place far behind. The voices felt like leaden weights, pulling against him, pulling him back to the darkness below, but he pushed on. Up and out, through the door that Navy was quick to slam behind them, locking it shut and leaving whatever evil festered in this place below.

Colton sat down heavily on the ground, gently laying the eggs out in front of him as he caught his breath. Relief filled his body, just about the first positive emotion he'd felt all day. Against all odds, they'd survived, though they had been tainted just as much. He wasn't sure anything he saw would ever leave him, the memories likely to find a fresh home in his dreams. Many sleepless nights were in Colton's future, but at least, he had a future to look forward to.

He lifted up one of the eggs, studying it closely for a moment before Navy suggested they finally leave. "You don't have to tell me twice..." he said, rising to his feet again. Despite it all, he tucked the little egg away into his bag, some inane curiosity still driving him to learn more about these creatures. An abyss he dared to stare into further and one he could only hope to learn not to blink at.
