Cillian is in the Rocket labs when all hell breaks loose.[break][break]

He'll learn later, from reports, that an experiment with Nihilego toxins obtained from the Ultra Deep Sea had gone horribly wrong.[break][break]

Now, all he knows is that people are shouting and equipment is breaking and there's a dead scientist laying in a pool of their own blood at his feet. It looks as if their throat's been ripped out by an animal. Blood soaks their white lab coat, the name PLUMERIA barely visible in dark stitching against the crimson tide.[break][break]

Stepping back from the spreading blood with a scowl, Cillian speaks calmly over the submarine's communication line.[break][break]

"I need one of the Beasts in Lab Three."[break][break]

Hopefully Marza Volchitsa was up for investigating a violent homicide.

Then they told her there was a homicide and she was entirely too curious to ignore it. Like a buzzard, she's always been entirely too enthralled with the sight of murder.

Luckily, she's not the only one. "The hell happened here?" Obviously that was the question. She sighed at her own stupid question before adding, "Is the room safe to enter?"

Lifting his chin in appraisal and greeting, the underboss is quick to turn his attention back to the spreading pool of blood at his feet.[break][break]

"Safe enough as I've stood here," he shrugs, gesturing at the body. "Whatever did this hasn't stuck around."[break][break]

He could've started investigating alone, but knew it was a task far more suited for a partnership. Better to have someone to watch his back in case whatever did this decided to revisit the scene of the crime.[break][break]

"Best I gathered, some experiment went haywire. The scientists didn't stick around to tell me how." He shakes his head. "I wasn't here when it happened; I was in another lab waiting on a meeting."

Maybe it says more about her that she doesn't really wait for confirmation on safety. Though the remark makes a snort slip free. Very reassuring. Clearly, it doesn't matter, but the sentiment is funny enough. Maybe Rocket will lose higher ranks today, wouldn't that be hilarious.

The lab is in complete chaos. The stink of blood and miasmic hint of something lingers in the atmosphere, sticking to the back of her throat as she steps forward. "Is there an escape route it could take? A vent or something?" Thick, almost gelatinous black puddles stain the ground. Maybe it was wounded.

For a sliver of a moment, she felt relief that at least they weren't having to crawl through the vents to find this fucking thing, but then her relief was painfully swallowed back. It would be just their luck. Or rather, her luck. She had shit luck.

The stench is reminiscent of something familiar he can't quite place.[break][break]

Limited to his choice of Pokémon partners in the confined space of the lab, the underboss sends out his trusted Lucario. Faolan growls low in his throat, the energies of an AURA SPHERE gathering between his paws.[break][break]

With a groan, the metal plating shifts as something forces its way through the small opening.

She resisted the urge to plug her nose as the revolting smell invaded her nostrils and stained her tongue. The viscous fluid seemed to permeate more of the tiles above and she took a step back. Cillian released his lucario and she followed suit with her orbeetle.
[BREAK][BREAK]
Knowing Rocket, this thing was bound to be any manner of scientific abomination. Before she could plan a response, the metal vent busted open and then tendrils of grey spilled out from the ceiling above, lashing out with a flurry of black goo. An abomination was definitely one way to put it. Some kind of bottle-bred science experiment of an ultra beast. It didn't matter, clearly the thing was furious, maybe even demented.

Orbeetle lashed out in response with a quick PSYBEAM.

As the approximation of tentacles begin to lurch from a writhing mass of grey and sickly purple, Cillian realizes where he's caught this foul odour before. The Deep Sea, stumbling on a nest of Nihilego amidst the organic mess of the ship.[break][break]

Yet the creature that faced them was no Nihelego. Though its 'limbs', such as they were, stretched in a futile attempt to imitate the Ultra Beast, it looked more a product of Frankenstein's lab than any real creature.[break][break]

Regardless, the PSYBEAM seems to strike it true. It recoils with a bone-chilling wail, then retaliates with a gout of ACID that sizzles and begins to eat at the metal flooring. Cillian sends out his Breloom, whose POISON HEAL renders her immune to such adverse effects. She lunges with a SKY UPPERCUT, knocking it back into a lab table.[break][break]

"They've been trying to get Ditto to accurately recreate alien lifeforms," Cillian recalls, surprisingly calm as he steps away from the hissing ooze. "I'd guess that's what this is about."

She had not ventured into the deep sea, though she was sure the place was filled with abominations just like this thing. Thankfully, it didn't take a lot to dispose of it, but it was still likely going to remain firmly in her nightmares for some time to come.

The stink of the beast only grew with the hiss and spew of acid burning through the confines of the lab space. Scientists didn't know when to fucking quit, in her very humble opinion. "I'm not sure if this qualifies as a success or not." Clearly, it worked to some extent, but the damn thing went crazy from it. "What a fucking mess."
