YUKI HANAKATA

HISTORY

Yuki hails from central Kanto, born into a family of traditionalists. Unlike the ever evolving modern culture of Kanto, her family opted to keep to the value and lessons of old, being known as meikos and shrine keepers that tended to the many shrines around the region. These unassuming folk held a dark secret unbeknownst to most in their lands, training generation after generation of assassins, shinobi, psychics, and more.

Like many other children of her clan, Yuki was raised to follow such a code. Her parents remained staunch supporters of this way of life, teaching their bundle of joy many such abilities. She ran constantly to achieve the best time, practiced archery, even learned her way around basic sword fighting. It was all so exhilarating, and she was among the top students. In her particular school of study, the crowned jewel was being taught the exclusive style of swordsmanship that was passed on from one master to the next. Only one student could ever learn, the strongest of all four schools.

But yet, Yuki found herself bored of the constant exercises and lessons. She rose through the ranks in record time and made it to the final eight students when she met another girl that she took a mild annoyance in meeting. @kyrenai , whose fiery red hair clashed with her own blue locks. While they started off on rough terms, the two eventually grew to be quite close with one another. Their spars and practice times had developed a bond between the two training blademasters. Many a passerby said that their strikes against one another was nothing short of unsung poetry. When off the battlefield, the two were inseparable from one another.

But then came the day when there were only two left. The final battle to determine the successor of her family's beloved style. Much to her horror, Yuki found herself pitted against Kyrenai herself. She steeled herself for the incoming battle and raised her blade to strike.

Their battle was long and fierce, and as hesitation between the two held true, her grandfather would remain adamant. Only one was to inherit the style of her family. Their blades clashed against one another, as the two women were worn. Yuki looked into those fearsome red eyes as she couldn't ignore the fact any longer. The nights they spent along as kids giggling and talking, the long walks at dusk, that feeling Yuki had whenever the woman would compliment her or even listening to her speak about anything that interested her.

Yuki loved her dearly, more than any friend or sister. So as it came time for one more clash, she loosened her grip on her weapon, raising her ring finger and pinky slightly enough so any impact would disarm her. Their blades met again as Yuki closed her eyes and felt the cold steel pierce through her chest. The final moments in this world were spent holding onto Kyrenai, voice quivering as her words were quiet. She willed herself to say what she had always wanted to, but her final breaths had cut short as Yuki passed on.

It was strange, a floating dream. She didn't know how she had come to be like this. Imprisoned in an endless void of faded colors and a sense of helplessness. Every movement forward brought with it an uncertain path as a pyramid of colors and sensations greeted her.

It had been so long since she had arrived here that she had forgotten much. Every step through this place was endless. Was this some sort of hell? A place that she was destined to remain forever? She continued down this path, numbed to the details of this strange place. Who was she? Where was she? What was she? It didn't truly matter in this world she came to find herself in. All there was to do was keep moving.

She continued on further and further until after some countless millennia, or what felt like it, the color would return. It was strange, this new viscera that had been absent before. Being near them made her feel warm, as she engulfed herself in their embrace. More and more things slowly continued to pop in. Shapes, details, smells, even tastes. Before she could even wonder what had happened, she would feel herself pulled into the air…

A deep gasp of precious oxygen flooded into the woman's nostrils. It burned the insides of her nose, feeling her heart beating rapidly. It took a moment for her to recognize what had happened as she looked down at herself. No longer was there an absence of body as she was greeted by a naked, feminine body. Her hands pressed down, pinched and felt all around her to ensure that this wasn't another vivid experience in whatever hell she had been inside of. Any attempt at going through her mind for a semblance of where she was proved fruitless. There wasn't anything to really remember. She didn't know where she was, who she was, or why she had suddenly been transported back into reality. Or what felt like it.

Her breathing calmed itself after a while and the being slowly rose to its feet. Legs shook with an uncertainty and even standing straight almost sent her back down, but she clutched onto a nearby tree for support as she steadied herself. A figure stood out in her empty head. A figure with hair as red as the leaves. She didn't know who this person was, but she must have been important to her. A bare, freezing cold foot took the first step of many, grunting in discomfort. It was a second chance at life for an unknown reason. Her mind focused more and more as a name had slowly began to appear in her mind. With weak, dry lips, she spoke the first words in ages that would drive her forward.

"Kyrenai…"
