BACKSTORY

At the age of six, our protagonist, Stella, and her parents were traveling on a boat to visit a faraway region, where they would spend the summer. As they were enjoying the serene ocean view, they suddenly got caught in a freak storm, which capsized the boat. In a bid to stay afloat, they clung to whatever debris they could find, waiting to be rescued. Hours passed, and eventually, it was just little Stella and her parents huddled on a flimsy plank of wood.

As the night deepened, the storm grew more ferocious, then suddenly, there was a loud crack, and the plank broke, sending the three tumbling into the violent ocean. Stella's parents managed to hold on to her for a few minutes before the thrashing waves ripped them apart, separating them forever. Miraculously, Stella made it to the shore of a deserted island, where she survived for weeks only due to there being a freshwater source on the island and her wits before finally being rescued.

After being rescued, Stella was sent to live with her estranged grandparents, who did not show much interest in caring for her. She grew up without much love from her grandparents and instead turned to Pokémon and art to fill this space. As Stella got older she found it harder to recall what had happened in her younger years, a therapist once told her that her brain was blocking out her traumatic past. Though every now and then Stella creates a piece of art that sort of helps her recollection of the past.
